Not happened to Wayne Couzens yet unfortunately.
True, but he was a copper (prison officers will have more time for him). And he didn't murder children.

Screws absolutely hate coppers. In the past, attacks on paedophile were winked at, but now, there's an awful lot of paperwork and scrutiny, which may lead to sackings. They're far more diligent in protecting vile prisoners these days, although one will get him event.

EasternStandard · 23/01/2025 20:57

@Tittat50 no I think it's still problematic to spread unsubstantiated claims

Really? Why?

I expect we will find out from the inquiry if there was a CAMHS referral. I expect there probably was. I think this case is going to really highlight multiple failings of services. That is not to remotely exonerate him. But it’s important to look at because if things could have been done better those little girls would still be alive.

I think we as a voting public need to ask ourselves why we consistently voted for parties that were happy to cut funding to CAMHS. Look at the waiting lists for referrals ! Not just that but also police numbers, social workers, pastoral teaching staff. Hell we won’t even allow new prisons to be built because of the threat to house prices. We really are our own worst enemies.

Totallymessed · 23/01/2025 21:00

I mean prison staff hating coppers. Would have thought they'd see themselves as on the same side. Or do mean they just hate the police who end up in prison?

maxplanck · 23/01/2025 21:01

the80sweregreat · 23/01/2025 20:55

I can never see the point of enquires because it's generally more money to tell us about lack of joined up thinking and failings by everyone from the parcel delivery company for the weapons he was able to obtain right up to the authorities and the police. It's the same old same old time and again and the same old ' lessons will be learnt '
They never are it seems.

Well yes if the recommendations are never acted on like the grooming gang one.

I imagine there would have been at least one referral or contact with CAMHS. The likelihood is they didn't have the resources to do anything. They may have felt based upon what they had information/ referral wise, can we actually do anything here, particularly with an Autism diagnosis which I understand has led many parents to be pushed away by CAMHS.

CAMHS will cover their ass here because to be fair to them their resources are so abysmal there's no easy solution if it were to become apparent they should have done more. I fear that's why we have alot of attention on Amazon and knives!

Yeah, they should work in tandem. Rehabilitation is the preferred outcome obviously. I didn’t say they should be left to rot. Some people however can’t be rehabilitated. I work in criminal justice btw.

Edited

Totally agree, some people can't be rehabilitated, and those people should stay in prison. But I would argue that most can.

This issue is why I'm so invested in this thread. It's not because I'm an apologist for a killer.

I believe the general public have no clue how severely underfunded and lacking these services are until something in their personal life makes them see it.

Well, this thread is about AR, and I very much hope he dies in prison. (Not saying I hope he is murdered by another prisoner, before you accuse me of really being no better than him).

I don't really see any point in trying to rehabilitate him tbh, I suspect he would use any attempt to engage him in therapy as an opportunity to manipulate and cause distress to the HCPs involved.

This thread is about AR, the comment I responded to was more general.
I think there should be work put in to try to help him. I don't know whether or not that would be successful.

The Assisted Dying Bill has just been brought in, and I think Rudakabana, Sara Sharif’s father and the crossbow killer from Bushey should all be offered a go on it. All have admitted their guilt and there is no point keeping them alive. They are executors of girls and women.

I doubt they would take the offer to be honest, their day to day lives are perfectly comfortable.

Puppymom · 23/01/2025 21:09

Disgusting. It's people like you who send fan mail and their knickers in to Josef Fritzel.

Absolutely. Until their child is failed or elderly parent dies in the corridor of an A/E dept. And it’s easy to blame individual professionals rather than see the wider picture. Some social workers or nurses etc are negligent, no doubt, but far more are just overworked, underfunded. So physically stretched they cannot do the job safely.

A man on lbc earlier on was in that court today and he was saying that his lack of remorse was astonishing. He said he had never seen anything like it before and he often covers court hearings and proceedings.
My thoughts are with the victims and the ones who survived as they really are the ones with the life sentence here. It's just so sad and upsetting.

No, of the ones that can’t be rehabilitated and should never be released, they SHOULD be left to rot. He is one of them.

It upset me today when Sky News put up photos of the three little girls with his face next to them on the screen. I felt absolutely sickened that they could do that.

Totally agree, his face would have been the last thing those poor terrified little girls would have seen, their pain and fear are incomprehensible. I remember Sarah Everard's family begging the media to stop putting her photo next to that of her rapist and killer.

How can people blame his parents , we don’t know if they had sought help for this killer , he’d been investigated 3 times by Prevent , been referred to various other agencies and had lots of intervention by police so we don’t know they didn’t instigate these referrals , their lives have been blighted too by his actions maybe because I had a sibling with schizophrenia, there were times when he desperately needed to be admitted to hospital for his own safety as he was hearing voices , it was always really hard to get admitted despite family trying their best to get him help, the help wasn’t there hopefully many years later other families won’t face that now but sadly I think they probably do😰

You do have to question why he was still allowed unfiltered access to the internet. That seems like the bare minimum they could’ve done.

I'm not sure if the mum was in the picture. I will hazard a guess the mum was really scared of him. No one can imagine what he was like at home and how aggressive he was. There would have been NO WHERE for the parents to send him. The Police weren't interested or able to do anything of worth.

I personally, knowing as little as I do this far about his home life, would have wanted him medicated on some bloody strong antidepressants. They might have had no control over that whatsoever. Let's remember this kid was not blimmin normal.

Nobody is baying for blood. Hopefully. What is being questioned and discussed is the potential for culpability if behaviour and actions or intent were clear and known, or being allowed, facilitated or permitted at home. And IS IT right or reasonable to hold parents to account for the actions of their children, when they are prosecuted and sentenced more leniently for being minors (ie diminished capacity in the care of parents). The uk is not, helpfully, a litigious society, however it is right and fair to question if this could have been prevented, and if sufficient reasonable action was taken, across all responsible parties.

We can say all we like services are so stretched it's not fair to blame them and then someone else says that person wasn't supported so that's to blame and then someone else says set him on fire, he's just bad.

That is discourse and these discussions are the only thing, combined with action, that helps.

Amazon are claiming that the knives used in the attack were handed over to an adult upon delivery.

I see your point but this had clearly been building since he was fairly young, so their intervention in this kinda way could’ve prevented it escalating and causing the death of 3 innocent girls.

I know I keep going on about it, there are parents on their knees begging for help from CAMHS atm. The situation is so diabolical it's very frightening. If they asked for help, you can guess they would have been told no we can't help, or no we can't he's Autistic so not our remit ( Autism not a MH condition). Or we will see him in 4 years time.

It truly is that bad. Suicidal kids are referred to an app. I mean it's no better for adults who are usually sent home from hospital the day after a failed suicide attempt. ( I've witnessed this too many times as a regular chronic illness visitor to hospital).

If SServices and school were flagging issues I imagine they would have flagged to CAMHS even if the parents didn't. They are going to cover their arse here guaranteed.
