Goodness me. I can’t believe I am back with an update. After starting the small claims process, look what turned up on my doorstep today! My Dyson Airwrap!!!

I hadn’t heard a single peep from my friend since my last updates on the previous thread.

What a shock I got when I got a notification from my ring doorbell this afternoon saying there was person at my front door. I checked and it was my friend sheepishly dropping a bag on my doorstep!

I was at work and knew I wasn’t going to be home for a few more hours. I sent my neighbour a text message asking her to take it in. I couldn’t wait to get home from work to see what she had dropped off 🤣 was it the original? Was it a brand new replacement? Was it the £150 replacement from Facebook?

When I got home and checked it out it appeared to be my original airwrap. I tested it and it worked just fine (so much for the sister spilling the wine!) and I checked the serial number and it definitely is mine!

What an absolute rollercoaster! I wasn’t sure if I should text my friend acknowledging the eventual return of the airwrap or not?

My friend asked if she could borrow my Dyson airwrap for her wedding as money was tight and she couldn’t afford a hairdresser. It was a small wedding...

I can't believe she tried to steal it !! What a cf!

And after trying to make you feel guilty about asking for the money. And saying you spoilt the wedding.

Definitely don't entertain this friend again.

I'd probably block her at this point.

I'd forgotten about the weather warning!

Well, the weather warning was lie #3 I think? It’s so hard to keep track of all of the different stories she was spinning.

fingerbobz · 24/01/2025 06:52

This is great advertising for the Airwrap

It's that good, you double cross a good friend for one?

Are you a Dyson plant OP?

The Tale of the Borrowed Dyson

Oh, Dyson Airwrap, a marvel to hold,
A friend once borrowed, a tale unfolds.
She swore her sister, in careless despair,
Had broken the treasure she couldn’t repair.

The lender, trusting, with kindness to spare,
Believed the tale spun from thin air.
But whispers of guilt began to creep,
As truth lay hidden, buried deep.

The borrower schemed, her heart turned cold,
She’d keep the Dyson, so sleek and bold.
But justice stirred, a claim was filed,
The lender, no fool, not easily beguiled.

And so, one night, beneath the moon’s glow,
The borrower decided her guilt must show.
She crept to the porch, her face masked tight,
A black box in hand, under cover of night.

The Ring doorbell, with its unblinking gaze,
Caught her return in a sneaky haze.
No words were spoken, no note was left,
Just a shameful act of returned theft.

Oh, lessons learned in friendship’s test,
Truth and trust are what serve us best.
For a borrowed Dyson, a bond was frayed,
And the Ring camera watched as secrets decayed.

Not enough appreciation for this going on. Brilliant. xx

RealJadeCritic · 24/01/2025 08:38

I am shocked! I just ran into the other room to tell DP ‘the lady got her hair dryer back!!’
he is also pleasantly surprised
we’ve both been very invested, and I’m so pleased it’s had a suitable conclusion
sorry that your friend turned out not to be a real friend though

Thank you for posting the update - what a fitting outcome.

You are very dignified indeed.

I thought you and NotNeil were inspiring! I'm only gutted a thread ends at 40 pages 😂

T1Dmama · 24/01/2025 13:53

Wow!!
just caught up with your original post and all your updates….
So she first had the cheek to not return your hair dryer, then didn’t respond forcing you to chase it up… then lied and said she’d left at hotel, accused staff their of stealing it, blamed her new DH for not seeing it….
then and only after you mention the police does she then drag her sister into it, pretending her sister borrowed and broke it…
Did she really think someone would just let it go over a £500 item?!….

She sounds horrible - not only is she a liar but a thief too!!…. Presumably only returning your item because you forewarned her that you were going to small claims curt!!

What a horrible dishonest person!!

After lending out a car once and it being written off I don’t lend out anything anymore that I care about… my rule is that I’d only lend something that I don’t mind being lost or broken!

tamade · 24/01/2025 14:02

Quinlan · 23/01/2025 14:18

Dyson will repair it for you or send a refurbished one to you for something like £100.
The woman said it had liquid damage and now it has turned up apparently working. I’d be worried that it has had damage and is unsafe or has had a crappy repair and is unsafe.

The liquid damage is imaginary, just like the forgotten in the room story

I suspect it’s ChatGPT, which is actually a really fun tool for stuff like that!

It is O% chat gpt.

Why don’t you check it before accusing someone of using AI to write something? It takes about 30 seconds.

Lostcat · 24/01/2025 14:24

Out of curiosity how can you check?

Tandia · 24/01/2025 17:03

@Langarg I am so happy to hear you are reunited with your air wrap!! I followed the post from the beginning and have literally been checking every few days if you had posted again! I don't know why I was quite so invested, but it is greatly appreciated that you came back to tell us all.

I do personally think you should tell mutual friends the basic story - just simple facts, (although as it now turns out, nothing she ever said was true, so that is challenging!) Just imagine that she did something similar to a mutual friend in the future and you could have forewarned them. You sound like such a good friend, I imagine you would feel responsible for not having told them what she's really like. Don't let her get away with such CF behaviour again.

Fairfatandforty · 24/01/2025 17:17

If she mentions it, say you didn't get it back? That if she DID leave it on the doorstep it must have been nicked!! 😂

Lostcat · 24/01/2025 17:28

Does anyone else desperately want an air wrap after reading these threads?

WoolySnail · 24/01/2025 17:34

@Lostcat I considered it but my hair is fine and everything drops out quite quickly. Plus I'm super lazy and couldn't be bothered to spend all that time grooming, so can't justify one at that price just for the odd time I'd be going out. You should treat yourself if you think you'd use it 😁x

They're not worth it, imo. Clever marketing. Get a modestly priced hairdryer with a brush attachment.

No I’m the same. I have some ancient hair styling device that I could count on my fingers the number of times I’ve bothered using. And yet after reading this thread.. 🙃🫠

Hey notneil's wife....please could you make a new thread to let us know if there's been any updates on the James saga? I just saw you on here, it reminded me to check and the thread is full. Although I'm guessing there might not have been, as you're still active here :) my friend was packing 20 party bags today for 16 kids and I thought of you immediately 😂

catlover123456789 · 25/01/2025 15:53

Wow, this was NOT the ending I anticipated! If only the airwrap could speak and tell you what REALLY happened on its adventures! She didn't even buy a new one to keep up her cover story!!!!
