Should she replace it? SHE RETURNED IT!

Goodness me. I can’t believe I am back with an update. After starting the small claims process, look what turned up on my doorstep today! My Dyson Airwrap!!!

I hadn’t heard a single peep from my friend since my last updates on the previous thread.

What a shock I got when I got a notification from my ring doorbell this afternoon saying there was person at my front door. I checked and it was my friend sheepishly dropping a bag on my doorstep!

I was at work and knew I wasn’t going to be home for a few more hours. I sent my neighbour a text message asking her to take it in. I couldn’t wait to get home from work to see what she had dropped off 🤣 was it the original? Was it a brand new replacement? Was it the £150 replacement from Facebook?

When I got home and checked it out it appeared to be my original airwrap. I tested it and it worked just fine (so much for the sister spilling the wine!) and I checked the serial number and it definitely is mine!

What an absolute rollercoaster! I wasn’t sure if I should text my friend acknowledging the eventual return of the airwrap or not?

My friend asked if she could borrow my Dyson airwrap for her wedding as money was tight and she couldn’t afford a hairdresser. It was a small wedding...

Never have I wished more that the CFers local press would pick up this story ... and you can send the link to all your mutual friends and say it's about her.

Drummergirl1971 · 23/01/2025 16:02

I’m so happy for you!

I wouldn’t bother texting her to acknowledge it - she was clearly trying to scam you & repeatedly lied to you & you had to wait ages for the replacement (how did she expect you to style your hair?), plus she didn’t bother to let you know she was dropping it off because she she knew she was guilty & was trying to avoid you. She isn’t worth anymore of your time. I wouldn’t bother texting let mutual friends know though in case she tries to pull the same trick on them

TabbyK83 · 23/01/2025 17:52

The cheek of her. You are honestly well rid. I’m honestly aghast at how awful some supposed friends can be!

Kaybee123 · 23/01/2025 17:53

Omg she is so so cheeky ?!?! As I said at the time theft
call police x girl tighten your boundaries

Danielle9891 · 23/01/2025 17:54

Can't believe she would try and steal it. I'm shocked after you were nice enough to lend her it. I'm more petty and would have done a post on Facebook making sure all our friends know to watch out for her.

PoshHorseyBird · 23/01/2025 17:58

Wow! So she was trying to keep it?? If that's the case I'd be dropping her as a friend, what a bloody cheek!!

Single50something · 23/01/2025 18:14

Wow! Good you have it back...but wow..

Marmalade777 · 23/01/2025 18:27

FluffMagnet · 22/01/2025 19:59

So she just tried to steal it?! Who does this to their friends? Anyway, very pleased for you OP!

What an utterly vile woman. I hope OP warns all her mutual friends about her.

fingerbobz · 23/01/2025 18:32

She tried to steal it!

Made up a load of tosh about leaving it behind, sister spilling wine

Eventually, after a few weeks, returns it

Shameful

Sleepytiredyawn · 23/01/2025 18:33

I wouldn’t say a peep and when she says she left it there for me, I would say there was nothing on my doorstep, sorry. Leave her to sweat for a while.

fingerbobz · 23/01/2025 18:33

Lucky (for her) it didn't get nicked off your door step!

gingersnapdrop · 23/01/2025 18:34

First of all, I’m so happy for you! Trying not to be sad that it’s over as thread had some funny moments. Would you please walk us through your exact styling routine with the air wrap?? I have one, and I do use it, but it doesn’t really make my hair look fabulous. The round brush smooths it out a little bit. When I use the curling attachment, the curl doesn’t hold! An old-fashioned blowout works best on my hair. But I know I must be doing something wrong with the Dyson! Looking forward to your full routine complete with product recommendations.

Thank you for your lovely comments. I definitely have learned a lot from this situation and am grateful for the support of fellow MN’ers. I can be a bit of a people pleaser and tend to always see the good in people. Before posting it never even crossed my mind that it was her intention to steal it from me!

I actually find it quite hard to make friends but have been really lucky that in the last 6 months or so since starting a new hobby I’ve made some lovely new friends. If it wasn’t for that I’d be feeling disappointed at losing such a long friendship and would maybe continue the friendship through fear of being lonely!

Don't keep a crap friendship just because you've known them a long time. X

Suchasonganddance · 23/01/2025 18:41

So pleased at this outcome.

For some reason it’s so hard to make a friend, but so bloody easy to lose one isn’t it?

MrsMrsD · 23/01/2025 18:47

Friend??????? She's no friend. The thieving CF!!!

SauvignonBlanche · 23/01/2025 18:50

Well done OP 👏👏
I’m so glad you’ve been reunited with the original.

I am happy you got back your airwrap back. She took advantage of your kindness. It ended well for you. It's her loss you've done much better for yourself.

StrikeForever · 23/01/2025 18:55

Onlyhereforthebatshitneighbours · 22/01/2025 19:59

So those thinking she'd stolen it were right all along!

The unbelievable nerve of that woman!

Wow! This 👆 She is just a straightforward thief and she doubled down so many times 😮😡🤬

StrikeForever · 23/01/2025 18:58

Langarg · 22/01/2025 20:12

🤣🤣🤣 I wish I had this level of pettiness in me!

In this case, this might not be petty. They need warning about this horror masquerading as a friend

Hekett · 23/01/2025 19:05

Come on OP. You must at least be tempted to ask her why it’s reappeared and is now magically working after you’d previously been notified of its unfortunate and untimely wine related demise?

2021x · 23/01/2025 19:08

Wow the entitlement!!

I wonder if her new husband saw the letter and asked her and made her give it back.

Yourcatisnotsorry · 23/01/2025 19:09

She’s got no proof of return if she’s just dumped in outside your house. I’d drag her to court to make her suffer!

Clarastah · 23/01/2025 19:09

It's just so bizarre. The fact that she had it all that time and was so brazen about it until the the threat of court action.....what was she thinking. At the point where she was making up stories about driving to the hotel, you'd have thought she'd have said 'oh and we got there and thankfully it was there!'.

But nope - she kept it up and dug deeper with her sister broke it.....

The trying to fob you off with a Facebook one.....

All the while she had it! So so brazen. What a wrong'un!

Janelle84 · 23/01/2025 19:11

Cant believe its been returned in good order! I wonder what the real story is of what went on. We will never know

Pedallleur · 23/01/2025 19:11

I wondered did she see it and ask to borrow it and thought 'Ill have this' or plan it from the start. How can I get that? But obviously thought the owner was a soft touch and would write it off. Having read some of these posts of people taking clothes, shoes, ornaments from people's houses I can't believe how these CFs get away with it.
