Should she replace it? SHE RETURNED IT!

Goodness me. I can’t believe I am back with an update. After starting the small claims process, look what turned up on my doorstep today! My Dyson Airwrap!!!

I hadn’t heard a single peep from my friend since my last updates on the previous thread.

What a shock I got when I got a notification from my ring doorbell this afternoon saying there was person at my front door. I checked and it was my friend sheepishly dropping a bag on my doorstep!

I was at work and knew I wasn’t going to be home for a few more hours. I sent my neighbour a text message asking her to take it in. I couldn’t wait to get home from work to see what she had dropped off 🤣 was it the original? Was it a brand new replacement? Was it the £150 replacement from Facebook?

When I got home and checked it out it appeared to be my original airwrap. I tested it and it worked just fine (so much for the sister spilling the wine!) and I checked the serial number and it definitely is mine!

What an absolute rollercoaster! I wasn’t sure if I should text my friend acknowledging the eventual return of the airwrap or not?

My friend asked if she could borrow my Dyson airwrap for her wedding as money was tight and she couldn’t afford a hairdresser. It was a small wedding...

Knew she had pinched it, the pre legal letter did the trick, don’t respond to the thief. Pleased you got it back. Can I borrow it please? My son’s daughter’s cat is getting married soon, and I want my hair to look sooo good LOL 😂 Don’t lend it out, ever again! No matter how much they beg, cajole, sob story. She was a cheeky moo 🐮

Crazybaby123 · 23/01/2025 10:55

OP you could probably make a business renting out the famous air wrap as seen in national news... or even still charge 200 quid for a personal visit to style hair with the famous airwrap. It clearly has powers so great that make a normal girl turn into a crazed criminal just by one go on the magical airwrap.... you could do personal PAs at stylish bars across the country, singing your tale with fabulous hair and a guitar then at the end, bring out the airwrap for everyone to wonder in amazement.. I actually would buy a ticket to this 😂

Pipsquiggle · 23/01/2025 11:21

Thanks for the update @Langarg

What a lying bitch she is. She would have kept lying and lying unless you sent that missive re. small claims court

MumblesParty · 23/01/2025 11:22

I’d be desperate to confront her, and ask her what the hell she thought she was doing. I know it’s obvious she wanted to keep it so made up a series of lies, but I’d still want to hear her admit it.

Strictlymad · 23/01/2025 11:56

I think she loved it so much she wanted to keep it, and hoped it would be forgotten. Small claims letter put a rocket up her bum after she was in a ginormous hole!

Machya · 23/01/2025 00:00

She is lying scum.
I wouldn't hesitate to tell mutual friends what she did.
No one needs a liar and a thief as a friend.

You should tell them.
Otherwise she will feed them a pack of lies and paint you as the bad guy, and then you'll be the one who ends up getting left out of social events in future.
Plus she'll do the same to them if she hasn't already!

OP sent Mrs. Light-Fingers a Letter of Action about the small claims case. That's the only reason the thieving con-artist was motivated to return it.

Edited

I 100% agree that it was the Letter before Action that spurred her to return it.
I don't think for a split second that had you not written that letter @Langarg, this woman would have had the slightest inkling to return your AirWrap at all. She was living her best life with the best hair and she wasn't about to give that up.

She only returned it when she saw that you really meant what you said.

Well done on sending that letter.

As for the mutual friends that you meet up with, I might be inclined to give them a very abridged version of the events (and say in this version that you have the receipts should they want to see what you've said the CFker friend said/did over the past weeks) but on the off chance that they too have appliances that they may be about to loan out to CFker friend, you would strongly recommend that they don't...unless they are willing to wave bye-bye to the appliance!

Gettingbysomehow · 23/01/2025 10:13

I don't lend anything ever. I've had too many terrible experiences including a first edition antique book a "friend" begged to borrow for a week and which was returned with multiple coffee rings on the cover.

Books are sacred. And my first editions are amongst my most prized possessions. I like to think I'm fairly even-tempered, but this would make me completely lose my shit.

Cheguevarahamster · 23/01/2025 12:14

Thank you for the update @Langarg . This was more exciting and dramatic than the Traitors!

Yes I would too. This isn’t causing a drama, but preventing them being sucked into it. She will want to get in before you and tell lies/drip poison about you, safest thing to do is to give them a short version of facts, without emotion. This both warns them so they aren’t burnt by her being a thief and next victim and also ensures your friendships are safe.

Ahh, such good news. She plucked it back out of her arse and now it's back. The end.

I wouldn't recommend using it if that's where it's been all this time 😬😱

TunnocksOrDeath · 23/01/2025 12:23

I think you do need to find a way to let your mutual friends know why your friendship with her is over, you have no idea what she's telling them about you, and it would be really sad if they believed whatever nonsense it is and took her side.

That's shocking! What did you say to this "friend" and how did she react?

Hdjdb42 · 23/01/2025 12:26

Omg that means she blatantly stole it from you! 😱 All those lies she told you! 😲 I could never be friends with her now. I'd tell our mutual friends what happened, or just send them a link to here, explaining what's happened. She may have done it to them, and they're too embarrassed to say so! Good for you, getting it back 👏

Lavenderfarmcottage · 23/01/2025 12:34

I have followed since the start OP. I admire you for never losing it at your friend and accusing her which is what I would have done. I think this is why you achieved the outcome you did.

Agree that MN is so helpful. I’ve learned a lot being on here - that I’m not the only one that is taken advantage of, lied to, has people that are bad friends. I think also you see completely different views and morals & how people deflect situations & it makes you realise how different we all are.

Anyway, even though it’s a happy ending of sorts, I’m sorry for you. It’s unfortunate that you’ve had to go through all of this, find out your friend is a liar that would steal from you, discover her character flaws and had to go through a month of this.

I am so glad you can reward yourself with beautiful hair that you deserve. I hope in time you are able to trust and find a friend at your level. You sound like a really good person and I hope you find friends who are as generous, patient, trusting and kind and not just people who exploit those qualities.

“Toasting” your future with your luxurious hair and good quality friendships… 🥂

Tortielady · 23/01/2025 12:36

@Roselilly36 I'm disappointed. For a second, I thought you wanted to AirWrap the cat, a feat which would have been worth a thread in its own right, along with a PowerPoint presentation and photos of your maiming by said cat. 😁

CaveMum · 23/01/2025 12:37

I wouldn’t confront her over it but I would send a simple “Thank you for returning my Airwrap” and leave it at that. You are acknowledging receipt and the end of the saga.

After that I would block her and move on. There’s no need to tell others unless she starts bad mouthing you in which case you simply state the facts and let them make up their own minds.

Lavenderfarmcottage · 23/01/2025 12:38

Langarg · 22/01/2025 20:07

Forgot to attach the image of my returned goods!!! Off to wash and style my hair for the first time in over a month! (It’s been washed of course 🤣)

Good suggestion re checking it thoroughly and potentially sending to Dyson @MJconfessions will look in to this.

Sorry for the spoiler @ASeriesOfTubes 🤣

Hang on OP… I thought the original box was blue ? @Langarg

LookItsMeAgain · 23/01/2025 12:44

Perhaps sending a text to the mutual friends saying something like this might put them on alert to CFker's goings on:
"Hi Friends - I wanted to let you all know about a situation that happened between X (CFker) and me over the past month or so that has frankly left a bad taste in my mouth. I loaned X an expensive hair appliance in the days leading up to her wedding and since then she claimed that (a) she left it behind in the hotel and it was subsequently stolen/lost from there, (b) that her sister borrowed it and accidentally spilled wine on it rendering the appliance broken. Throughout she never once offered a full replacement of the appliance all the while I was being fed these lies. I had to threaten to bring X to the Small Claims court and it was only on when she received the Letter Before Action that I know they are lies as the item was returned to my doorstep (it's the same one based on the serial number) and it still works. Please don't lend X anything unless you're willing to wave goodbye to it. It's not worth the hassle. She may tell you a different story but as they say "I have receipts for this tea!" All the best @Langarg "

Balloonhearts · 23/01/2025 12:57

I think I'd be petty and go to court anyway. Claim it wasn't there when you got home.

Gggglinda · 23/01/2025 13:11

I knew she stole it!

the cheeky cow didn't think you'd go through with small claims and thought she would get away with it.

Yeah, been there done that.
I collect hardback books by a certain famous writer, they always come with the loose fly-leaf dust cover. When I received it back, it was missing its dust jacket.
They said they had "lost it".
No offer to replace the book even though they know I collected them as a set.

It's mind boggling that people don't care for things that they borrow from "friends".

Or offer immediately to replace them if they get damaged.

We also loaned out a dremel drill set with complete set of drill bits, it was very expensive at the time. We never got it back even after months of asking, then the "friend" moved away and took the set with them.

I am very hesitant to loan things out now.
