Should she replace it? SHE RETURNED IT!

Goodness me. I can’t believe I am back with an update. After starting the small claims process, look what turned up on my doorstep today! My Dyson Airwrap!!!

I hadn’t heard a single peep from my friend since my last updates on the previous thread.

What a shock I got when I got a notification from my ring doorbell this afternoon saying there was person at my front door. I checked and it was my friend sheepishly dropping a bag on my doorstep!

I was at work and knew I wasn’t going to be home for a few more hours. I sent my neighbour a text message asking her to take it in. I couldn’t wait to get home from work to see what she had dropped off 🤣 was it the original? Was it a brand new replacement? Was it the £150 replacement from Facebook?

When I got home and checked it out it appeared to be my original airwrap. I tested it and it worked just fine (so much for the sister spilling the wine!) and I checked the serial number and it definitely is mine!

What an absolute rollercoaster! I wasn’t sure if I should text my friend acknowledging the eventual return of the airwrap or not?

My friend asked if she could borrow my Dyson airwrap for her wedding as money was tight and she couldn’t afford a hairdresser. It was a small wedding...

Clearly it should be named ‘Put That Thing Back Where It Came From, Or So Help Me!’

This made me laugh

ManyATrueWord · 23/01/2025 09:18

Mumsnet massive calls it again!

Let this thread stand to show that yes, they are lying, yes, they are that brazen and yes, they will crumble if you stand up to them. Well done, @Langarg!

Obviously this should be the name of the musical

Well, Hair is already taken 😅

pointswinprizes · 23/01/2025 09:24

What’s with all these multi-thread sagas? I swear this is the third this month 😂

snowmichael · 23/01/2025 09:28

It's pretty obvious that she'd lost it, no?
And then found it again and sheepishly returned it

Is pretty obvious that that did not happen!

She lied, lied, lied again..... why? If she'd lost it, then own up!

SerafinasGoose · 23/01/2025 09:43

I would not contact her.

YourRubyMaker · 23/01/2025 09:47

Just want to say thank you for updating us !! So many threads never get closure and I for one am so happy as this one had me hooked 😂

NoWayRose · 23/01/2025 09:48

Maybe I’m just naive but I just can’t wrap my head around the mindset of going to the effort to build a friendship, then effectively stealing £500 from them! Bordering on sociopathic. Glad you got it back OP

Gettingbysomehow · 23/01/2025 10:13

I don't lend anything ever. I've had too many terrible experiences including a first edition antique book a "friend" begged to borrow for a week and which was returned with multiple coffee rings on the cover.

canyouseemyhousefromhere · 23/01/2025 10:15

So pleased you have it back.

Do you think she may have sold it then had to buy it back again?

MonickerMonica · 23/01/2025 10:20

She was never a true friend in the first place. Very sad but more common than some of us realise until too late. 🫤

Positive result though and all SO avoidable!

femfemlicious · 23/01/2025 10:21

CombatBarbie · 22/01/2025 20:58

So she received initial paperwork, that's why she returned it??

I'd deny all knowledge of receiving it back tbh.....

Edited

True!. She's really horrible for leaving it on the doorstep!. It would have been taken. People are just wicked and horrible.

@Langarg you should have a go at her for leaving it on the doorstep. She wicked

SharpWriter · 23/01/2025 10:22

Such a good ending. I would just take great satisfaction in the fact the CF has tied herself up in knots throughout the entire saga thinking up excuses/lies to cover her tracks and must have been shitting herself when she received the letter threatening small claims. No need to tell mutual friends - OP has conducted herself beautifully and with dignity throughout the whole sorry business.

Costcolover · 23/01/2025 10:27

MJconfessions · 22/01/2025 20:04

Check it thoroughly like are all the attachments there, the filter, the filter cleaner etc. I personally wouldn’t trust the machine if she claimed it is liquid damaged either. I would be tempted to send it to Dyson and proceed to small claims to cover the cost of replacement/repair (which shouldn’t be too expensive)

Send it to Dyson for what?!

MJconfessions · 23/01/2025 10:28

Costcolover · 23/01/2025 10:27

Send it to Dyson for what?!

In previous threads the OP stated it has been liquid damaged

TwistedWonder · 23/01/2025 10:33

MJconfessions · 23/01/2025 10:28

In previous threads the OP stated it has been liquid damaged

That was the latest in the list of lies/excuses from the so called friend none of which rang true.

amusedbush · 23/01/2025 10:34

I'm glad you got your Dyson back but I'm really sorry that your friend turned out to be such a turd. Apparently your friendship was only worth £500 to her Sad

I followed the saga from the start and, honestly, it didn't occur to me that she had simply stolen it. I'll admit that I can be quite gullible but I guess it didn't cross my mind because I just can't fathom brazenly stealing someone's belongings.

Your ex-friend is a grubby cow and I'm so impressed by your level of class and dignity. I'd be out there smearing dog shit under her car door handles.

birdsstartagain · 23/01/2025 10:38

What a tea-leaf! Who steals from a friend?!

Well she clearly never was a friend.

Glad you have it back OP.

SharpOpalNewt · 23/01/2025 10:43

Thanks for the update, a rare resolution.

Noodlehen · 23/01/2025 10:47

Polecat07 · 22/01/2025 20:40

The picture is why I asked, looks black!
Must just be my screen then

Definitely your screen, that’s the standard air wrap box and it’s 100% navy blue

Scottishskifun · 23/01/2025 10:49

Wow the absolute cheek of it! I'm so glad your letter stating small claims court was enough to shock her into returning it but my god the gall of that woman to lie, lie and lie again because of what?! She used it then decided actually I want one of these oh look I will just keep this one?!

Feck me one for the MN CF history books this one!

Bollindger · 23/01/2025 10:54

So glad Hairy Dyson is no longer AWOL.

CustardySergeant · 23/01/2025 10:55

LunchtimeNaps · 23/01/2025 05:38

I'd really want to know the truth of this. Surely she didn't just lie, keep it and hope you'd do nothing.

That's exactly what she did.

Purplequestionmark · 23/01/2025 10:55

I think you should message her to call her out on her lies. Something like i am extremely disappointed that it took me sending you a letter before action to get you to return my clearly not lost or damaged air wrap. I consider the matter closed but we obviously are no longer friends and if I am asked by mutual friends I will not lie
And then block the thieving beach.
