To wonder if Starmer can survive the vibe-shift?

Trump has been going hell for leather since his inauguration it seems, things are changing fast - Trump likes the UK, but he doesn't like Starmer. Starmer seems out of sync with the changing tide, and seems (to me) to get it wrong and make it worse everytime he opens his mouth. AIBU in wondering how long Starmer can hang on?

No, I'm a bot

Then what are you?

You seem to be implying that a change of President in the US could, should or would lead to the UK Prime Minister being over thrown.

Notonthestairs · 22/01/2025 13:39

YouGov survey from 20/1/25 indicates the British public aren't too keen on Trump.

If you are a bot, you should be ignored.

If you think that the rioters and arsonists who used the Southport atrocities as an excuse to vent their hatred are "political dissidents", you should be ignored.

If only 45% of british people are very unhappy, or 53% are either very or fairly unhappy with Trump, then they see him more favourably than the British people see Starmer.

Riapia · 22/01/2025 13:45

Of course Starmer will survive.
Nobody knows what his opinion is on anything, he never seems to have a point of view. The slippery fucker will survive until someone can pin him down on any subject at all.

living in a nowhere land
making lots of nowhere plans for nobody.”

Good point, Starmer’s not doing too well

The first two responses are absolute mn classics.
OP: Here is question that invites a response but indicates I do not necessarily think Starmer is fabulous
P1: You must be a Tory bot
P2: I won't answer your question but will call someone else names.

I would say he has expressed some pretty strong opinions in recent days. That is why the likes of the Nicotine Frog and his boot-lickers are upset.

I'm always happy to call Trump names, he's a disgusting pig with no redeeming features.

And i did answer the question, I explained how Labour have a massive majority and that is not going to change.

Are we not allowed to call the orange sex pest names?

IcedChristmasTrees · 22/01/2025 13:57

Interesting to see the poll is almost split 50/50.
Especially interesting considering mumsnet is usually anti-trans and trump has just passed a policy saying there are only 2 genders.

I think Starmer will be gone soon enough, he is deeply unpopular. I know of only two supporters in the village and they are both former labour councillors, everyone else is rather vocal in their dislike/hatred of Starmer. Seeing quite a few "Stuck Farmer" hoodies around and several home made signs.

Agreed

Sorry, what's this, what should I be posting? Seems like this is a touchy subject. Perhaps you don't feel things are so secure afterall.

In some ways, I hope Reform take power at the next GE. You'd see then how much Farage and Tice et al care about ordinary people. Problem is, we'd all suffer, not just Reform supporters.

In reality, Reform won't win the next GE. Or the next. Or the one after that.

So how will he be got rid of? Genuine question.

taxguru · 22/01/2025 12:37

We didn't go "more left wing". Labour's vote in 2024 wasn't more than it was under Corbyn in 2019. Labour won because the Tory vote collapsed due to the sheer number of Tories who changed their votes to Reform or the LibDems. The majority who moved to Reform clearly shows a Right wing swing, not a left wing swing. The tide towards the Right is happening right across Europe including the UK.

No it isn't.

Meloni is in due to a coalition, AfD wont be in Govt, neither will Le Pen, no one else will work with them.

Reform and the Tories, combined vote share is totally out weighed by Lab LD and Greens

This is the same across almost all of Europe, plus these right wing parties want to stay in the EU.

Yes i know about Hungary, which is why i said "almost"

Trump barely got the majority of the popular vote.

What is a common theme is that Tories and their supporters can't accept they lost power, its hurting so they lash out, with evermore wishful thinking...

Well, that's just your bubble.

What he's doing is front loading the unpopular policies now, so that by the time the election comes around he's got a couple of years of pushing more popular ones.

Polls are almost entirely meaningless this far out from a GE

I thought your little group on here didn't like name calling. I seem to remember a lot of fuss being made over Two Tier Keir and Rachel Thieves and how childish it was.

Tittat50 · 22/01/2025 14:05

I am often posting contradictory views but here goes -

Why was there not such outrage under the Tory reign supreme. They have absolutely stitched up everyone. Never beforehand in my lifetime have i seen an absolute destruction of public services.

When I watch every single report over this young Southport kid, every single reporter and every bloody idiot reporting is factually wrong, is leaving out vital information and ignoring some massive fucking problems that other Governments set in motion more than Starmer ffs. The blindingly obvious one being NO SUITABLE METAL HEALTH PROVISION for young people. The kid was off his rocker and that is the only reason he did what he did. His colour, his heritage is irrelevant his interest in violence was born out of being nuts ffs.

Do people enjoy hearing Farage talking about being a workaholic and thinking everyone else should be the same? Great.

Who looked at Boris and thought, yeah I can totally relate to that guy and his life experience, his boarding school experience and mindset and he must have really cared about me.

I'm no fan of Starmer. I don't like particular things but this is what we went for for a reason.

Yes that does cause issues in MN group think
Anti-trans: vvv good
Trump: vvv bad
A conundrum indeed.

They don't like name calling if it's from the other side, totally fine though when it's someone they oppose. 🙄
