To wonder if Starmer can survive the vibe-shift?

Trump has been going hell for leather since his inauguration it seems, things are changing fast - Trump likes the UK, but he doesn't like Starmer. Starmer seems out of sync with the changing tide, and seems (to me) to get it wrong and make it worse everytime he opens his mouth. AIBU in wondering how long Starmer can hang on?

@Ch01c3s feel free to filter all news, commentary and polls so you can see Labour in as positive position as you want

I can't say I care what you access, but it dies t make their situation go away

And you are in the minority rn, 70% think similarly so I guess you'll have to hide or accept it

Only polls I care about are in 31/2years time. I literally don’t care at this stage of the game. All I care about is a government brave enough to get the country back on track whatever it takes which is what we’ve got.

Don’t remember you hiding or accepting the Tory’s dire popularity the past few years.

EasternStandard · 26/01/2025 13:09

@pointythings good try..

I've said it could get worse, unless you think you know for sure that won't happen, that's true.

EasternStandard · 26/01/2025 13:12

Well that's a minority opinion rn, your belief isn't felt by many

Besides how does shrinking the private sector, lose jobs and stall growth do that exactly?

pointythings · 26/01/2025 13:23

EasternStandard · 26/01/2025 13:09

@pointythings good try..

I've said it could get worse, unless you think you know for sure that won't happen, that's true.

It could also get better. The difference between us is that I'm not constantly doomposting on every single anti Starmer thread that appears on this forum. My attitude is and always has been a matter of let's see, let's give them a chance.

Well no party wanted this gig for a reason, sorting the mess the Tories left would make any government unpopular .Tories didn’t want to sort the mess they caused for sure. Reform has no policies so is well aware they can’t sort the country out. They just want to swoop in when it’s all over as they just ride on sound bites, ditto the Tories as we all know. When Labour start sorting the under funding of services, the waiting lists, crumbling school buildings, trade with Europe, the Tory Brexit aftermath car crash…..to name but a few popularity will rise and 4 years is a long time for that to happen. Don’t think you seemed to care about Tory unpopularity when they were in power .Why was that? A sceptic might think that somebody so invested and focused on Labour popularity ( and little else) iin the early days of government is trying( and failing) to whip up some kind of storm. It really is dull and really highlights desperation alongside a serious lack of a Tory plan.

Have you actually been checking in with the media, polls, news, recently?

EasternStandard · 26/01/2025 13:28

@pointythings again good try with the attack lines

I'll post where I wish and if you can't bear any negativity over Labour I suggest you avoid everything bar those Labour threads where you all agree they're doing great.

There's a whole commentary out there that show you're in the minority.

pointythings · 26/01/2025 14:40

@EasternStandard I have no idea why you are perceiving my posts as an attack - possibly this says something about your mindset? You can post what you want and where you want.

As for public opinion - if there's one thing you can be sure about, it's that it's a fickle beast. If the economy turns around and people have more money in their pocket and are happier, it will change. Which is why making policy based on popularity, media perceptions and polls is such a bad idea.

@pointythings of course you have no idea, perhaps that says something about your mindset.

As for policy why is shrinking the private sector good for growth exactly?

Take the recent loss of 3000 jobs from Sainsbury's due to the budget, why is that a good outcome?

ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 26/01/2025 16:10

@EasternStandard Sainsbury's cafe closure is long planned & part of an ongoing cost reduction drive.

Ours which be is one on the list has been empty for years. Barely anybody uses it.

Private sector firms expect activity to fall in the three months to March (weighted balance of -24%), according to the CBI’s latest Growth Indicator. Expectations are now at their weakest in over two years.

This pessimism was shared across all sub-sectors. Business volumes in the services sector are anticipated to decline (-18%), driven by predicted falls in both business and professional services (-13%) and consumer services (-37%). Distribution sales are expected to fall steeply (-35%), and manufacturers also anticipate output to fall (-31%), with expectations at their weakest since May 2020.
Why is this good exactly?

The real tears and emojis will start when the welfare cuts are announced. I mean RR actually doing an exclusive for the red tops - declaring her war in sickness benefits. It’s almost like she knows support is collapsing and people are heading to Reform - she’s literally appealing the main audience.

Do you really think people who didn't vote for Labour are ex Tory voters centrists, Remain voters are going to be voting for Reform? Seriously?

But the logic doesn't follow that Reform will be the answer to the nation's prayers. Sorry but that is delusionary!

How is that an answer on the economic impact of the budget? I didn't mention Reform in that post.

You what now?

Labour's budget impact is in that post, any comment on why you see that as good?

I haven't said I'd vote for Reform, others would at a greater rate hence the recent poll shift. Even the most loyal Labour voters can see their support is dropping.. (well maybe not you)

Also your posts are odd you do realise you are responding to two posters

Julen7 · 26/01/2025 17:14

@Goldenbear it wasn’t my post. You posted twice about Reform in reply to different posters (not me), neither who had mentioned Reform in their posts.

I'm not a Labour voter, there was no pint in my constituency.

I just go the impression you are/were championing their vibe but obviously not.
