To wonder if Starmer can survive the vibe-shift?

Trump has been going hell for leather since his inauguration it seems, things are changing fast - Trump likes the UK, but he doesn't like Starmer. Starmer seems out of sync with the changing tide, and seems (to me) to get it wrong and make it worse everytime he opens his mouth. AIBU in wondering how long Starmer can hang on?

Are you being serious?

Maybe they are. They just live on a different planet to the rest of us. That post is literally INSANE.

I didn't vote for Sir Keir Starmer but I am waiting to see if he can do something good for the country, something positive. Not convinced yet. The Tories lost the election as they flip flopped all over the place and were punished for it. If Reform offer good policies, apart from immigration, at the next election, they will win. Labour will not win. The Tories, I think, will do better than people realise especially if they have a new leader.

Trump gave a feel good feeling to Americans. America first yay. 2 sexes yay. Crack down on illegal aliens yay. Boost to the American economy yay...and so on.

What did we get? Doom and gloom. A kick in the goolies to our pensioners and small business while appeasing the unions and monetising train drivers.

Now Labour are opening up the hotels again for asylum seekers. The ones they chastised the Tories using.

Lol at Trump giving a 'good feeling' to Americans. Some of them, maybe. Large numbers of them, including the entire LGBT community, are crapping themselves.

For starters, there was no budget until October so there can't have been cuts to the NHS and local councils.

None of what that poster claims is remotely true. So are they nuts, or are they deliberately posting absolute bollocks to try and create anti-Labour sentiment?

Why would there be? They are not in government.

Kemi Badenoch gave a key note speech the other week, are people not interested anymore in the direction she is guiding the party?

No not really

The problem the Tories have is that even their own members are losing interest and defecting to Reform. I'd be surprised if Kemi is still leader by the next GE.

Interesting how calling out behaviour that is akin to a bot isn’t allowed, but calling someone a vile prick seems to be perfectly ok.

I thought mn was angry about Trump win

There has been plenty of upset over last few days in any case

itsgettingweird · 22/01/2025 19:12

TheNuthatch · 22/01/2025 18:00

I wish MN would also ban Tory voter hunting 🙄

I voted Tory in 2019.

Lib Dem in 2010.

Does that mean my comment supporting Starmer and against current story and reform is allowed to stand?

People can dislike what a party has done without being against that party.

I didn't like Labour under Corbyn - I'm liking it more under Starmer.

GrouachMacbeth · 22/01/2025 19:13

I think a lot of people voted anti conservative which is why parties like the lib Dems and greens in some areas did well, and of course labour in winning. Just like those who at the 2020 election in the US voted against Trump rather than FOR Biden led to trump doing very well and particularly with groups who would not be expected to vote as much for him.
I would not put money on labour winning the next UK election.
As to who will win....

Scammersarescum · 22/01/2025 19:16

Elon Musk and Trump disliking Starmer have made me suddenly really warm to him and I can't be the only one.....

The more we learn from America's mistakes the better, we absolutely do not want to ape them.

I agree. Over the last ?+ (how old!) Years, I have voted for the tories, liberals and labour. I can’t see me ever voting for reform as Farage and his supporters are pretty awful.
I would say I was probably conservative with a small C, but Brexit put the kibosh on that.
We stilll have 4.5 years of the current government. No point in deciding yet - it’s too early.

HappyNewFeckingYear · 22/01/2025 17:44

In the 25 days between the election and stabbing, everything they did everything wrong.

They defunded the NHS and mental health teams.
Cut funding to local councils by about two thirds.
Fueled hatred and ... ..changed everything the very competent Tories had put in order over the last 14 years.

I don’t think some people recognise sarcasm.

I'm not entirely sure what point you are making tbh. My post was not directed at you.
My post was to highlight that every time a poster raises their head above the parapet and defends the tories, they are shredded by a predictable group of MNers who most of us recognise. I have not noticed your username in these pile ons so I do not associate you with that behaviour. I respect your right to your own political opinion.

If only 45% of british people are very unhappy, or 53% are either very or fairly unhappy with Trump, then they see him more favourably than the British people see Starmer.

What survey are those stats taken from?

Yougov, but for some annoying reason I can't add the image. But the link is here:

Nope. Not interested. William Hague said that being leader of the opposition is the hardest job in politics. That's because...people are not interested. You have very little, if any power.

Although I’ve been told on a number of threads that labours opposition is at fault for the acts of the previous government as they should have “held them to account more”

batshit, but some people do seem to think that

itsgettingweird · 22/01/2025 21:14

Thenut thanks for your reply.

However if you respect my response as you don't recognise my username as particularly a Labour supporter then you also have to respect Labour supporters will defend them just as Tory supporters defended them.

I have to say I didn't like how staunch Tory's pretended like party gate didn't matter etc. this was the party of dickheads it turns out I voted for and o could criticise them alongside others.

Same way many Labour Labour super items criticise Starmer but lived Corbyn.

Just because you recognise someone for always defending a party doesn't make it a bad thing. That was the point I'm making. Because they'll always be someone in the otherwise doing the same thing for another party.

As someone who is an extremely centric swing voter I think those who will only and always vote Tory are the worst at accepting criticism of the party.

I've seen a lot of Labour people against WFA etc and Starmer is very marmite to Labour supporters because of how centric he is is many ways and imo a lot closer to the old school small c Tory's than Labour.

It’s a bad thing when it’s the same group of posters actively trying to shut down discussion. So much so, their usernames are now synonymous with closing down anything remotely critical of Labour. There are a handful of posters trying desperately to turn AIBU into an echo chamber.
