To feel everyone is anti trans?

I'm well aware of current US views led by Trump - but are these views generally held/supported in the UK? Of course I understand opinions on NHS gender reassignment funding, as well as controversies over trans women in sport. Needless to say I'm fully aware of concerns over women's safety issues. Are there any sympathisers or supporters out there? What about trans masculine folk who are surely no threat to women's safety or sport? None of these people would choose such a hard life, socially, financially, physically, mentally, emotionally... am I alone in thinking a bit of kindness and compassion towards the trans community might be appreciated for the massive personal struggles they have to face? I am open minded to hearing and understanding your views.

Surely to change sex a man would have to have a sex change? But most of them keep their penis.

Even then, they haven't changed sex. They're just a man with an inverted penis.

I've got news for you. People can't change sex.

Turns out they can, you're behind the times. You should read a book!

How exactly can someone change their sex rather than their gender? Considering your bio sex can’t be change by cosmetic surgery or by any medication - what books are your reading beyond fairytales?

Iwanttoliveonamountain · 22/01/2025 12:43

Trans ideology is finished. It flourished in the Covid era. It will disappear as quickly as it arrived. 95%.

Lol! I think I can muster more intelligence than JK Rowling 😂

All evidence to the contrary since you call people who speak of their existence and experience 'weirdos'....

I think this post wins the thread for ridiculousness. Not to mention arrogance! Don’t think JKR will be losing much sleep 😂

No human being who has ever lived has ever changed their sex.

Please explain in detail how this process happens?

Particularly how the chromosone sex markers change in a person's DNA? I'm absolutely intrigued.

Fully supportive of people’s right to dress/look/appear/be referred to however they want, and more than happy to be ‘kind’ to them. I just don’t want men in female spaces.

No, they cannot change their sex DNA or chromosomes. No one actually changes sex. Indeed, transpeople themselves often say "none of us are saying we changed sex".

Biological sex is a multidimensional construct/ process of development.
You have a simplistic / anti-scientific understanding of biological sex which blinds you to the empirical realities of human diversity and fuels your ignorance and fear of trans people and others.

Biological sex is very simple; it is based on gamete type and remains consistent across the whole animal and plant kingdoms.

Small motile gamete = male
Large immobile gamete = female

Everything else is just the support structures around these gametes.

Well i was called a transphobic bigot! She or he or they or whatever it identifies as does not need to go round calling someone a bigot for their opinions! My first comment wasnt even hate! Its an opinion!

i can give an example of why i dont like it, and that doesnt mean i cant still be respectful to people who identify as trans. I would.

But, what i find insulting is the whole chestfeeding, giving birth ideology, female safespaces.
Also i believe trans criminals should be treated as their biological sex when put into prisons, and finally i disagree with what is being pushed on to young children who might be at a point they may feel confused about their gender/sexuality.

I do not hate trans people at all, i just do not agree with some of the things i see up for debate.

that's how i know you haven't been engaging in this discussion a) in good faith or b) ever before.

Your position that you took in that post is what the TRAs would consider transphobic bigotry. I just got in before them.

Wind your neck in and read people's posts properly. And now you can please address that post to the TRAs.

Thanks in advance.

Mumsnet is a site for women with children. The trans community (in its very broadest definition) seeks to enter and appropriate women's spaces, to erase women's rights and to capture vulnerable children doing them irreparable harm. Unsurprisingly, it doesn't receive support on Mumsnet.

I'm a mother, I love and welcome trans people. There are also lots of mothers who are parents of trans children.

This is nonsense, but even if it wasn't, so what?

Ethnicity is a multi-dimensional spectrum - WAY more so than sex could ever be - and a social construct. Age is a process of ongoing change, and a spectrum. Disability is a spectrum.

None of that means you have a right to announce you have an age, ethnicity or disability you do not have and require everyone else to agree. Even if you convince yourself biological sex is "complicated", I'm female and that means I'm not a man.

its interesting that you can see the complexity in these other categories / constructs but not sex. Why do you think that is?

None of that means you have a right to announce you have an age, ethnicity or disability you do not have and require everyone else to agree

A person who does not conform to your simplistic/ unitary/ fundamentalist account of sex is not “announcing” or “claiming” a false identity. You misunderstand the nature of this type of human diversity .

Thelnebriati · 22/01/2025 12:49

If you're going to insist that humans can change sex then you also have to insist they must have a sex change if they want to use the facilities of the opposite sex.

And at that point, you become a transphobe just like the rest of us. Welcome aboard, here's your TERF card.

Sex isn't a construct. Gender is, but not sex. It's that simple.

There is no complexity in sex. Other than DSDs, which are a medical anomaly.

It’s not that simple though. Not at all. And therein lies the problem.

Plawp · 22/01/2025 12:50

I support trans folk. I think a lot of people have been brainwashed into holding bigoted and hateful views by certain loud idiots online. I see being transphobic as akin to being a bully picking on the weakest child in class. Trans folk are a tiny minority who get an absolutely ridiculous amount of hate. The murder and suicide rates for trans people are heartbreaking. I see transphobia as anti feminist and think transphobes are useful tools of the patriarchy.

If this offended anyone, maybe do some critical thinking instead of lashing out- I don’t read replies from transphobes so you’ll only be wasting your own time if you feel like you have to defend your bigotry.
