That picture of the Southport killer

That has been circulating today.

Remember that sweet boy that was in all the reports at the time? The one who looked about nine?

Can anyone think of any other serious criminal who has pictures of them as a child out in the press?

No, I saw photos on X very early on that weren't shown until months later by the BBC.

These “photos you saw on X” was it just the BBC that did not show them? What of other media outlets.

What were these photos of?

I don't have TikTok

Fallen down a rabbit hole then. Which I'd be trying to make my way out of because you're on a public forum accusing the media of trying to garner sympathy for a mass murderer.

Coldanddamp · 20/01/2025 17:55

Not all mass non white mass murderers are terrorists.

I haven't claimed otherwise. The issue isn't the motive but more the mass murdering.

Seems like the referral was due to concerns how his worrying fascination with death and violence but there was no evidence of any terrorist ideology.

But removing the terror aspect, why with all the different authority's involved did people not realise this worrying fascination with death & violence was a threat?

I'm more concerned with who decided to have that trial today to hide it against the inauguration of Trump,
And what the Prime Minister and Home Secretary knew about this evil person, when they knew it and what they decided to tell the public.

was it you that posted this same crap about your conspiracy theory of several different trials happening at the same time (except you then admitted that some of them actually started the week before and they were all due to conclude weeks after) as the inauguration a few weeks ago?

If the responses on that thread weren't enough to refute it, surely the fact that, despite the inauguration (and the fact that a beginning of a trial isn't that interesting), it is still front page news, with multiple articles on the bbc website and people are (as evidenced by this thread) still talking about it, completely debunk your nonsense conspiracy that "they" are trying to bury any controversial/race related news?

Court drawings of him. That looked nothing like the schoolboy. I wasn't sure at the time that they were genuine. But confirmed when bbc used them.

YourWildAmberSloth · 20/01/2025 17:56

It wasn't hidden. The trial was due to start tomorrow. There was a pre-trial motion today, when he suddenly and unexpectedly entered a guilty plea, having previously pleased not guilty. The trial would have lasted several weeks, not one day. However his guilty plea means that there is no need for a trial and will go straight to sentencing, probably in a few days unless pre-sentencing reports are needed.

SilenceInside · 20/01/2025 17:57

Why would you expect a now 18 year old to look like pictures of him when he was a 12 or 13 year old child in his school uniform??

Coldanddamp · 20/01/2025 17:57

Probably nothing that could be done.

Is that good enough for the families of the children he attacked & killed? It would not be for me.

flammabelle · 20/01/2025 17:57

@User09678 the original photo was clearly cropped from a group picture, probably sold to the media by someone he went to school with, and the only one available at the time.

The new pic is horrific and looks like it was taken on the day he was arrested.

What do you think they would possibly know about a 17 year old teen who was by all accounts a loner?

Oh the authorities knew, they just done bugger all.

He was excluded from school for taking a knife in. He went back to his school with a baseball bat and a list of teachers and pupils to attack.

Pasithean · 20/01/2025 17:53

What is a child who has done what he has plead guilty to, supposed to look like. 🤷‍♀️

The principal indicator of his crime so far on this thread appears to be that he has Afro hair.

TheThreeCheesesOfTheApocalypse44 · 20/01/2025 17:58

And stop with the weirdo conspiracy theories ffs.

The photos and footage they had were what the media were able to take from what was available online. The same as they do with lots of cases. They haven't been able to get any others because he's always covered his head. Obviously his trial has started so his mugshots been released. There's nothing more to it than that.

I mean he slaughtered free young girls, he isn't going to be seeing freedom for a very long time if ever again.......because I can see a lifetime hospital order coming his way. A photo of him as a kid and a Doctor Who video won't change any of that.

Trikey · 20/01/2025 17:59

No I haven't posted about any trials and the inauguration previously. I just think it's odd that this trial was scheduled for today when the media attention has been elsewhere.

Violent crime
Black people who commit violent crimes are also more likely to be the focus of a press release than their white counterparts. In a society where young Black men are already profiled as violent, this matters.
Between July and December 2019, the Met Police issued news releases about 72 people who had been sentenced for violent offences such as murder, rape and violent robbery.
Of this group, 50 people were Black, equating to 69% of all the press releases in this category. The force published news about just 22 violent white offenders being sentenced.

But this bears no resemblance to the number of people who were actually sentenced during this period. From July to December, the Ministry of Justice’s own figures state, 575 white people in London were sentenced for violent crimes, while 344 Black people were sentenced for the same category of offences.
The picture is the same for other types of crime.
While white people were sentenced for theft offences at almost double the rate of their Black counterparts, the Metropolitan Police put out the same number of press releases on Black and white offenders – 29 each. While 134 white people and 62 Black people were sentenced in the capital for sexual offences throughout this period, the Met put out nine releases on Black people and 13 on white people.

Exclusive: The Met Police Are More Likely To Publish Your Mugshot If You're Black

Our analysis reveals how the UK's biggest police force is contributing to racist narratives about the criminality of Black people.

Axel wasn’t Islamist. He was brought up a 7th day Adventist.

Their apocalypse schtick seems pretty peculiar to me as a bog standard agnostic but I’m not convinced religion had much to do with his beliefs.

He’s in Belmarsh. He won’t get out. I wonder where his family are.

Most people still look like themselves from childhood pics- the basic character is still in their face, you can see the ''essential them'' in their childhood pics, even at a 30 yr distance- or more.

The pics here show a dead eyed person who looks like no one is home- he is nothing like that sweet little child he once was.

He was referred to Prevent but did not fall under Prevent’s criteria:

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025/jan/20/axel-rudakubana-was-referred-to-counter-extremism-scheme-three-times

One of the referrals followed concerns about Axel Rudakubana’s potential interest in the killing of children in a school massacre, it is understood.

His behaviour, including his apparent interest in violence, was assessed by Prevent as potentially concerning. But he was deemed not to be motivated by a terrorist ideology or pose a terrorist danger and was therefore not considered suitable for the counter-radicalisation scheme.

Not all mass non white mass murderers are terrorists. Seems like the referral was due to concerns how his worrying fascination with death and violence but there was no evidence of any terrorist ideology.

Yes this is the article I read. I know we have to question all media and sources. I can't guarantee accuracy of anything I read

I agree it feels that attributing this to Islam Extremism alone is failing to include wider context regards his general interest in extreme violence across faith/ideology included Christianity.

The section I saw regarding Islamic extremism was this quote here attached. I feel he would have grasped onto any violent ideology regardless of origin. I can't edit original post so hope this addition corrects the omission above.

THE PREVENT agenda is questionable. I worked in a leading Local Authority in London and the implementation of the crime reduction strategy wherein PREVENT was a key strand. So many people just had no clue what they were doing - including me! I believe they could ignore or not adequately investigate referrals and concerns. Will we ever know why? I don't know.

This case more than anything screams Mental Health problem that was not adequately supported.

As has been repeatedly pointed out, the trial was scheduled for tomorrow. And now won't happen at all, because at the eleventh hour he changed his plea, which was accepted today. The trial was never scheduled for today.

BRL2 · 20/01/2025 18:01

It’s absolutely clear there was enough information about him (an aborted attempt to carry out mass murder at his former school), attack on a teacher, Prevent referrals, non engagement with education etc, that should have been acted upon. Starmer is admitting as much.
FYI the judges at Liverpool Crown Court would list this at a time convenient for all parties, and not to coincide with the Trump inauguration (I can’t believe I am typing this but apparently some people are a bit thick). Mugshots are only released after guilty verdicts because they could be prejudicial to the trial.

It's odd that you think court scheduling is anything other than an administrative task, taking into account judge and court availability.

They did take notice. But there was no identified terror ideology ergo not relevant for Prevent.

Prevent is specific to concerns about terrorism. Not general violence.
