To be annoyed at the lack of bathrooms

Applecharm25 · 20/01/2025 13:39

I have my period. I can feel that i need to change my tampon.

I'm out walking round my city. There are no public bathrooms anywhere near me.

I see a sign for a bathroom in a small shopping centre near me. I walk in. The bathroom is actually in a shop. I'm told that the bathroom is only available for paying customers.

So now I have to get in a long queue and wait further and buy something while I really need to change my tampon.

Surely there should be better toilet services available.

Must admit I’ve never had any issue with finding a loo or a place to change any period related items in my life, but I do not live in the wilderness.
If a heavy flow, use a tampon and period pants, which will contain all issues until you get home.

Your thread was reported many time as being a troll. MNHQ has given you the benefit of the doubt. But the way you wrote and what you wrote didn't appear genuine.

Most people would just say where they were. It's not a big deal.

Edited

Lol.

I'm laughing at this.

Because I remember someone being nasty earlier because I had left the thread.

I wasn't on this thread for hours this evening.
I came back later on.

Now I'm apparently on it all day.

This. It is bloody pathetic. Everytime someone uses a term that some posters think is only used by Americans they start railroading the thread with their faux not able to understand.

Thing is, it makes the language more ambiguous. "Toilet" is clear, "bathroom" can mean something else. Ditto "sick" - much clearer to say "ill", and then "sick" for actual vomit.

People having a fight - a physical one or a row? British English is far clearer and I have no desire to use twee euphemisms because I'm too puritanical to say titbits.

OP you’ve thrown us all with the use of the word bathroom 😂 it’s a toilet or if you’re asking in a cafe etc you say where are the ladies. A toilet is what you’re after not a bathroom! No baths or showers that’s a bathroom ! But yeah I agree there needs to be more toilets but I just find a pub/ McDonald s etc and plan it abit

I never knew that some people didn't call it bathroom.!

But I'm happy for you to call it whatever you want. It doesn't matter in the slightest.

I, and everyone I know here, say 'bathroom. "

As I said earlier, a woman came into the shop, while I was in the queue, and she asked could she use the bathroom

Omg it's absurd to pester the OP about her address!!! Why is it relevant? Are you going to look up the town and point out "Oh actually, there are x number of public toilets and cafes per y area, so OP you're wrong, we don't need more public toilets"??

Look, if someone is in a city and feels upset there are no loos, it would be sensible to say where and ask here.

There is a genuine shortage of public loos. But most towns have other options.

People gave loads of ideas.

It's strange that she doesn't want to engage in a proper discussion over where she is and the options.

Anyway- goodnight to all.

I’ve heard people call it bathroom as well. No less clear than “WC” tbh - I think we could all work out from the context what is meant.

Yeah I've been in pubs and heard people ask the landlady where the bathroom is.

If you go into any pub and ask them where the bathroom is,

they'll know what you mean

There's no need at all for your nastiness.

You said my life is shite? Really?

When I said I would like to improve things for women. Or even just theoretically talk about ways that things could be improved.

'Most women' Did you talk to them all amd ask them?

Or are you talking about the women that you have personally spoken to, and asked?

How many women was that?

I said that if you were really that involved with this as a main issue, your life must be ‘shite’ as there are so much more interesting issues to get involved in.
The fact you are fixating on going to the ‘bathroom’, I feel that you do not live in the real UK, as I’ve never seen a sign to a ‘bathroom’ in a restaurant or pub in my life.

How many places have you been to in the UK.

I always find it interesting when people say

"That is not said in the whole of the UK"

Because they don't say it in their town.

They you find out that they've never left scunthorpe or wherever.

Well, this thread is a fair representation that MOST women don't want it....

Applecharm25 · 20/01/2025 22:39

There definitely should be more public bathrooms as well.

Like there just aren't enough.

No one likes having to run into a pub and asking to use the bathroom

I’ve lived/ been in many locations from Thurso to Perranporth, including stays near Merthyr Tydfil ( spelling may be dodgy)

Right but you haven't been everywhere.

And people say different things in every place.

I shall say bathroom forever! You're welcome to call it whatever you want.

This is a bugbear of mine too OP. Was amazed in Hong Kong at how there are toilets everywhere. I can’t believe the Liz Line has barely any loos and it’s a brand new facility. I have chronic cystitis and more
than one have wet myself on train platforms or had to just wee behind a bin because of lack of facilities. Actively discriminates against women imo.

Applecharm25 · 20/01/2025 22:43

This reminds me of an interview that I saw Michelle keegan give.

She's from up north, and she is married to Mark wright, who is from Essex

She said thar she often says things, and he hasn't a clue what she is talking about, and vice versa.

As they have different names for everything.

OP posts:
Katbum · 20/01/2025 22:44

i’ve actually seriously considered a class action lawsuit against TFL for discrimination.
