@PointsSouth

"Though he didn't murder all those people until he gained complete power. The comparison being made is with Hitler at the point that's equivalent to where Trump is now.

I mean, I hope you're right, and that time shows that the comparison wasn't justified.

We'll see."

OK - so the comparison between Hitler and Trump by certain posters is because those posters genuinely believe that there is a real risk that Trump will kill 6 million or more US citizens in state organised death camps between now and 2029.

As you say "We'll see" but imo there is more chance of Trump publicly discarding his human form and revealing himself as an alien lizard person by 2029.

Have you just landed from Mars OP. What exactly have you seen that is so shocking.

And in any case what is so shocking about wanting to secure your country’s borders? 8 million illegal migrants have come into the US on Biden’s watch. That is more shocking than anything Trump says.

It’s not a novel idea. Your reaction is giving ‘faux rage’.

And you're giving "I found these numbers up my arse".

MyNameIsX · 20/01/2025 15:49

Many of you are watching the Trump inauguration, I’m sure.

I am.

I feel sorry for that short woman stuck right behind the tall guy.

Six million would be a push, certainly.

A few hundred thousand possibly.

OK so in your view does that still make the comparison of Trump to Hitler accurate or should it be a lesser known Nazi like say Herman Goering or similar.

And the few hundred thousand you think is possible, is this as a consequence / secondary impact of policies or through state organised death camps?

Lorrymum · 20/01/2025 17:51

Off to Mars we go!!
Good luck with that!

Iloveautumnwinterchristmas · 20/01/2025 17:53

He was not tried in a criminal court and he was not convicted of rape. The judge was yet another Democrat plant and the person who funded this woman is a huge Democrat donor. Yet another example of the weaponization of the justice department by the crooked Democrats and crooked Biden. This case was actually outside of the time limit to be tried but guess what, the timeframe was extended to accomodate it,what a stroke of luck,eh?

Thing is, as I said at first, the comparison is to where we're at now. The rhetoric. The conflation of issues and ethnicity. The appeal to populist biases. The autocratic promises of simple solutions to complex problems. The encouragement of saviour worship. The constant shifting of rationale.

These things are reminiscent of Hitler's political rise, and it's fair to make that comparison to those specifics - just as one might compare someone's moustache to Hitler's without necessarily implying that that moustachioed person was about to annex the Sudetenland.

However, and subsequent to that conversation, I think that it's entirely possible that Trump will round up thousands of people without much idea of where he's going to 'send them back' to, or how, or at whose expense. He doesn't need to send them back to anywhere, actually. He just needs to be seen to be getting them off the farms. But he'll need to put them somewhere, and I suspect it'll be 'transition camps'.

There's a lot of buzzwords in there, for example what makes a promise (false or otherwise) of a simple solution to complex problems "autocratic " and surely by publicly stating (whether you believe him or not) to be "colour blind" in policies then Trump is stating the very opposite of having issues merged with ethnicity.

But getting back to your point of a comparison with Hitler, you are basing this on a fear of illegal migrants being detained in "transition camps".

Do you believe that these "transition camps" of several hundred thousands are secretly going to be state run extermination camps?

Wonderfulstuff · 20/01/2025 18:49

I’m just in awe that all of the village people are still alive 😂 I love YMCA.

Sorry to say, it's not actually the village people. The last surviving member of the band released a statement explaining that it was not the 'official' band and distancing himself from anything to do with Trump.

The adjective's qualifying the noun 'promises' - which are 'autocratic' in the sense that he claims that he - not the government - will make decisions and take action, and he even says how. By executive order.

I'd say that his claim to be 'colour-blind' is swamped by his much more frequent claims that named ethnic groups are responsible for specifically-cited problems.

And, as I said in my last post, the comparison with Hitler is made with what he's done to get where he is now. Not with what he might do.

You brought up the question of whether I thought Trump will introduce camps, and I've replied to that with specific reference to Trump, and without a comparison to Hitler.

Oh thank goodness he signalled his virtue accordingly - at least some things remain sacred in these frightening times 🫣

This is the most disgusting thing I have ever read. You hate Trump, you hate Melania, you clearly hate immigrants and think they are fit for nothing but cleaning your shitty toilets. If you really wish to see a horror show, try looking in the mirror.

I think you're missing the point. It was Kelly Osborne, not me, who wondered who would clean the toilets. I clean my own toilets.

I mentioned Melania because the Trumpies seem to forget she's an immigrant.

I don't hate immigrants, I think they are beneficial to the economy. They bring skills, they pay tax, unlike a lot of UK citizens.

OneLemonGuide · 20/01/2025 19:56

RogueFemale · 20/01/2025 01:43

And that's the problem with the US presidential system. The president has the authority of a king, in what is supposed to be a democracy.

Irrespective of whether you love or hate him, that’s nonsense.

Willyoujustbequiet · 20/01/2025 11:32

Sexual abuse is not minor.

Please do not minimise.

The topic of discussion was the crime for which he had been convicted, which is the hush money.

The topic is Trump. He's also been found liable for sexual abuse.

He is a sex offender.

His behaviour should not be minimised to suit a political narrative.

You specifically said that Melania should be cleaning toilets because she is an immigrant. Back peddle as much as you like, I know what you said, we all know what you said, that without immigrants there would be nobody available to do all the shitty jobs like toilet cleaning.

SuePreemly · 20/01/2025 21:13

So your scapegoat is unemployed British people… why does that make you morally superior?

CinnamonStick77 · 20/01/2025 22:04

Watching the news tonight I feel sick and such a profound sense of sadness.

This really feels like a horrible turning point. Watching Elon do that salute. Watching him signing these executive the executive orders in public like it's a spectacle.

All we can do is fight tooth and nail to make sure this doesn't happen here.

Trump was found guilty of Sexual Abuse in a trial jury of his peers . He pointed out the victim as his wife at the time Marla Maples in a photo .
He was in a separate case he was convicted of 34 counts of tax fraud . He is a convicted felon . It’s that simple . I am from NY and he has been guilty of so much for so long and has gotten away with it .This man deserves prison but a bunch of naive Americans bought his schtick and now he can avoid it by being Felon in Chief !

crumblingschools · 20/01/2025 22:12

So so worrying. What do Americans think of Musk doing that salute?
