Or is it borderline offensive? I like to swear as well as the next person but this just sounds so crude and awful. I can imagine if you're a bit hard of hearing then you'd be quite shocked.

I don't often get annoyed by this type of thing but this is really winding me up at the moment.

tradfam northern gammonista

What now?! 🤷🏼‍♀️

I know , is that a trendy way of saying thick fat northerners? I am a northerner by the way.

SerenityNowSerenityNow · 16/01/2025 07:47

Why are some of you ROFL so much at this hour over this? Maybe the ad agency’s target demographic is ‘Wetherspoons Woman’ and you’re still drunk from last night? This would align with thinking a childish play on words in an ad is attractive?

I’m guessing Mrs Browns Boys has you in stitches also? We’re all different I guess.

Wow. Aren't you a delight?!

Do you struggle with people thinking differently to you? Or people telling you you're wrong? All I was doing was pointing out that they are a well established company but that has clearly hit a nerve.

As for your 'weatherspoons women' comment..... well I'm afraid that says far more about you than anyone who happens to have booked a holiday with this company. I'm afraid you're not coming across particularly well.

I never said I like the advert, to be honest I find it irritating especially as my 10 year old has a habit of parroting phrases like this. But hey ho, it's only an advert and it will pass. Not worth getting all upset about it and throwing insults around.

As I said, I've booked with them a couple of times when we wanted a cheap break in the sun and always had a good experience. Our holiday budget is quite small this year as we've just renovated a house so perhaps we'll use them again 🤷🏼‍♀️

DaDaDoDaiDa · 16/01/2025 07:50

I couldn't care less about the faux swearing but they have forever spoiled 'It's the most wonderful time of the year' as a Christmas song.

SerenityNowSerenityNow · 16/01/2025 07:50

Me too!

Apparently I'm also a 'Wetherspoons woman' and drunk because I dared to point out that on the beach are a well established company. 😂😂😂

I wish I'd been in the pub last night instead working late as usual. It would have been far more fun.

What the book is a tradfam northern gammonista?

😂😂
But seriously......,what is it?

SerenityNowSerenityNow · 15/01/2025 23:39

Because using 'northern' as an insult is lazy and makes you sound like a bit of a knob.

It’s not just northern, it’s apparently a northerner who would be a farage supporter. That’s from google, gammonista is a song. Every day is a school day.

PeachyKeane · 16/01/2025 08:13

Ugh, are northerners even allowed on mumsnet???

VictoriaEra2 · 16/01/2025 08:15

It’s just horrible and off putting.

You must be a bit of a fan of the brand to know exactly what year they started - lol.

Doesn’t really change my view that they don’t sound like a company I’d trust to give a significant amount of my money to. This is why these type of ads are like marmite. Some love the tackiness of it all and some will be put off by it. The ad agency will have done their research into their target customers tastes.

Edited

This was in response to @DelilahRay who’s such a fan of OTB that she’s memorised the date they appeared on Companies House. I must have unlinked by accident.

Like a pp said I thought it was for booking.com for ages so it's not very effective 😂

Oh, so did I 😂😂

ItsBulkingSeason · 16/01/2025 08:22

I’ve never heard of a gammonista and I am from up north.

ItsBulkingSeason · 16/01/2025 08:24

Is it because they burn on holiday? I have googled and still non the wiser?

Tradfam - wants to be a housewife/mother rather than pursue a career. Northern - from an obscure part of the UK southerners have vaguely heard about where it's cold and permanently 1972. Gammonista - female version of Gammon, reveres Nigel Farage and dresses in leggings and a football top. Wink

(Definition by - northern, undomesticated and childfree, lefty-liberal-type poster )

MeowCatPleaseMeowBack · 16/01/2025 08:25

I don't care about the faux swearing but the hideous family in the ad make sure I will never book a holiday with them. If that's their target customer I would rather camp in the Hebridies than go to one of their hotels.

One or two of us manage to slip through and post on threads in between shifts working down t' pit. Only if we're lucky enough to have electricity and WiFi though obviously 🤷🏼‍♀️

HelpMeGetThrough · 16/01/2025 08:25

It's Paddy McGuinness saying "booking genius" etc to sound like "fucking genius"

So it's this that's borderline offensive?

Stifledlife · 16/01/2025 08:26

I dislike it so much that I will change channels to avoid it. A christmas song all year, smug near-swearing, obnoxious children, obnoxious parents - this ad has it all.
It portrays british tourists in the worst possible light and justifies this behaviour. For the less well travelled it's a template for how to offend others.

It's just grim all 'round. Get it off our screens!

Same! I clearly didn't listen to it closely enough but all the repeating of "booking" meant I assume it was an ad for booking.com too.

Someone to look down upon for those who are desperate to make themselves feel superior now that they’re not allowed to be racist anymore.

Wow, is there anything that people don't find offensive these days.

Why is everyone aghast at the "tradfam northern gammonista ?
I recognise that family dynamic. Every cruise ship is full of them.

Agree.

Actually one of the characteristics of a gammon is that they are racist.

To clarify, it isn't a term I use. But I know what it means.
