To ask if you’re happy and healthy?

It sounds like such a simple question, but I’ve been wondering lately how many people genuinely reflect on these two things. Life can get so busy, and it’s easy to lose track of what truly matters. Are you happy with where you are in life? Are you healthy - not just physically, but mentally and emotionally?

AIBU to think that these two questions should matter more than almost anything else? And if the answer to either is no, do you think we owe it to ourselves to figure out why?

Yes.

After decades of mistreating my body with smoking, alcohol, junk food and no exercise. Its taken me until my mid 40s to finally start looking after myself. I feel healthier and better than ever and it's made me happier.

My age helps, I'm earning more than ever, my kids are teens and don't need me as much which gives me time to look after myself and I can have quality time with DH. My confidence is high and I am not looking for validation elsewhere.

I'm happy, heathy (as are my family), no financial worries but I'd got a bit too comfortable in my job. I've been offered a new role which is less wfh and more challenging (plus more money and cpd opportunities) so hopefully will be a good move.

No, and no.
I have chronic illnesses with little hope of improvement and much of my unhappiness stems from this and the resulting impact on my life. Been struggling a lot on the happiness front lately, too.

Ginghamsheep · 15/01/2025 20:15

I am healthy.

Wouldn't say I am particularly happy though. The main cause of my sadness is that I am lonely. I have no family. I am an only child and I don't have a partner. I am trying to expand my network of friends, but I worry that my future will be very lonely too.

I'd say that I'm the happiest I've ever been; lovely DH and DC and we have a lovely life and lifestyle, very much still in love after 15 years. Healthy too thankfully.

We do have a lot of wider family issues though, depressed DSis whom I worry about a lot and does cause me a lot of upset. I'm an empath and take on everyone else's problems.

Yes, definitely

Feel incredibly happy

comingintomyown · 15/01/2025 20:30

I am fortunate enough to be able to say yes to both but I never forget it and have spent/do spend a great deal of time on keeping it that way

StarCourt · 15/01/2025 20:56

unfortunately answers to both are no and way too many reasons to list why.

I'm happy. Very happy. I'm size 12 and 5'10. I'm emotionally and mentally happy.

My downfall is phsycially health. I've had a stroke, Epilepsy and Multiple Sclerosis... But I'm still happy.
