Came across a video of her speaking last night
I find what she has to say about Islam very interesting, sensible and…worrying
Any thoughts?
I can’t seem to link 😬

I make a point of not really watching much news

Is she that well known 😬

Anyway, I found it really interesting, yet very scary

I think I have known about her for around 15 years. She was in the press a lot when she first started “dating” Niall Ferguson, the historian. They are married now but if I remember correctly there was some sort of scandal.

She doesn't come across as sensible at all to me. I saw an interview with her once and she was talking absolute nonsense.

Europe must leave the Geneva Convention (?)
The people jailed for inciting riots were locked up for 'sharing information'.

Load of gibberish.

I think I may have seen her actually..,she looked v different, unusual pairing, seems they’re still together though 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m going to look at more interviews to see, but I found one interesting. Also think she must be very brave to speak like this, although she has every right to of course

I'd never heard of her until just now. Everyone knows different things.

PercyFone · 11/01/2025 21:28

She's been big in alt-right circles for years.

It's a shame you don't read the news much, but I'm glad you're interested now! it's so so important to understand the world we live in! I'm sure MNers would be happy to suggest reputable sources to start.

I was an avid newspaper reader back in the day and often watched on television before Dc. I don’t really have as much time now, plus I find it doesn’t help with anxiety and feeling down…which may sound ignorant.
I’ve been interested in the scandals recently and came across this
I’m British, but live in another country, one that is receiving lots of immigrants recently..they aren’t backwards in their opinions about it and express that the uk are too soft and our culture has beeb taken over, they’re adamant they won’t allow theirs to be.
These are not my opinions, but I find it interesting

I’ve heard of her. She wrote a book that I read many years ago. She wrote about her experiences converting to Islam and then leaving. I believe she moved to Amsterdam as a refugee? It was a long time ago. Maybe became a politician too. Her book when I read it was interesting.

‘She told the Mail on Sunday: 'In all the years I have known Ayaan, she's never had a boyfriend.
'She's gorgeous, but with a fatwa, it's tricky to find guys.'

Tell me about it.

I think she struggled on the dating apps. People can be so judgmental. I’m empathising with her as I was barred from my local Spoons and once I revealed that I couldn’t get a second date for love nor money.

@Neodymium i thought she was born a Muslim as opposed to converting?
I agree, her book Infidel is interesting.

How helpful of you another 'apparently another first time poster to post on Islam today' to draw this to everyone's attention.

? I’m not a first time user, I just thought it was an interesting discussion, can we not discuss things?

Spoons is short for Wetherspoon’s, which is a pub chain. I don’t know the policy on fatwas. Maybe if you get it on a card you can get 10% off?

I know it’s short for Wetherspoons…sorry I didn’t get the humour really 😬

She indeed was a politician in the Netherlands, she was close with Geert Wilders from pvv who should be the leading party in the Netherlands now, but somehow isn't, I struggle to understand the status quo.
But her life was in danger very much due to her views and she had to seek refuge again. Unfortunately forced to leave the country.

EmeraldRoulette · 11/01/2025 22:58

I met her about 15 years ago. I found her to be a very impressive woman who has been through a lot. Felt very lucky to meet her. The political landscape was so different and she was much lauded at the time.

I don't pay much attention to news now but I do think she is being authentic. She's becoming less popular because she isn't really on the acceptable side of things anymore, but I hope she continues to stand for what she believes in.

At least, from my perspective, that seems likely. She was always brave so being unpopular isn't something that will trouble her I guess.

She really has spoken out so much and seemed to have an awful childhood
