Critics flag ‘worrying trend’ of keeping royal files under lock and key as thousands set for release to public

This should be interesting. A big cover up again, no doubt.

The public have a right to know. Too much secrecy.

Fears grow over censorship of secret Queen Elizabeth and Philip papers

Google says differently.

So some click bait on Yahoo news says hes fluent in 7 languages including Welsh but he himself said 3 months ago that he's learning and can ' ask for a cup of tea' Daily Mail www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-13833861/Prince-William-reveals-learning-Welsh.htmlDaily Mail Daily Mail Daily Mail

Google said he's fluent in French too, but he gave an extremely poor stuttering speech in French, reading from a piece of paper,so I doubt it.

Prince William reveals he's learning Welsh on Duolingo

The royal, 42 visited the town of Llanelli today and met children who took part in a major Welsh language youth festival, Urdd Eisteddfod.

So they have a private secretary and a nanny, they apparently live in a small house with no room for staff but will probably have a dresser each, a butler, cook and housekeeper, a few gardeners living at Windsor Castle which is about 10, generously lets say 20 as they have a few other houses too. So the rest are organising about 200 engagements for two people a year? And people really believe William is doing anything at all behind the scenes but reading what other people have told him? How come his dad, the actual Head of State can do 4x the enfagements? He couldn't even be bothered to learn another language, despite being born into a role apparently as a diplomat.

You said that Charles had 800 staff and that William had 100 office staff. I asked where you got those figures from?

What difference would it make if she did?

And what kind of PM would be so easily influenced?

What is the point of weekly one to ones with the boss if not to reinforce that they are the boss and to allow them to guide direction?

A quick Google only gives figures that are three-four years out of date being over a thousand www.businessinsider.com/the-firm-royal-org-chart-who-works-for-queen-2022-01

The Queen was not the PM's "boss".

I presume the discussions were mainly to keep her up-to-date with the work of the government.

The Queen (and now the King) doesn't tell the PM what to do!

I would imagine that figure included the Queen's Guards so not just household staff.

The PM is literally appointed by the monarch.

If neither side gains anything from it, why not take the meeting out of the PM’s very busy diary and allow the king more time to himself?

The answer is your username.

Or maybe not! There's a certain likeness......

Puzzledandpissedoff · 13/01/2025 22:02

How do you think they turn up at events well-versed enough on the charity or whatever to be able to converse with the people they're meeting?

Confirmation bias will cover that, @mainecooncatonahottinroof - as in the sort who want to invite them are the very ones most likely to be consumed with the "honour" of meeting them at all and so exaggerate everything

I met such a one during a visit by Margaret of all people. She was practically skipping on the spot because she'd shaken the royal hand, and the very anodyne questions asked were deemed to be Margaret "knowing all about it"

The government makes the laws not the monarch!!! The monarch may read them in Parliament but they are not of his making!!

That's ceremonial. The PM does NOT take instructions from the monarch!!!

What would be the point in electing a government at all? It's a constitutional monarchy fgs!

I don't believe that to be the case.

Plenty of people have reported that various members of the RF have been very knowledgeable!

I’d expect them to have been given good well researched briefings before every event. That’s what some of the staff are for. They read it just before the event, make positive comments based on it (directly from it) then probably forget 90% of them by the next day.

That's what I used to do with exams...

You wouldn't expect them to rock up without a clue what they were there to talk about.

I think they should be allowed secrets. They're only human. Many of them work bloody hard and didn't choose their lifestyle. I wouldn't want to be in their positions that's for sure! They're welcome to my few quid a year, a million times better than the alternative eg France.

Please shed light on which ones work “bloody hard”? 😂

And let’s look at Ireland rather than France - a great example of a presidential figurehead for a fraction of the cost.

Of course they shouldn’t be allowed secrets from those that keep them in the lap of luxury 🙄

So so true - when Kate came to open a building of a charity I work for I took the day off. I couldn’t stomach the sycophancy 🙄

So how do you know there was "sycophancy" if you took the day off?

I met Harry briefly once. There was no "sycophancy". Just ordinary people shaking his hand and welcoming him!

Some people are over-awed meeting famous people. Doesn't make them a "sycophant"!!!

2000+ engagements per year. They are human beings. Fuck sake does a grown adult really believe that they have the right to the private life of another human because of an unrelated exchange of money based on a system that the family didn't even personally implement. I wish I'd never commented on this thread as I'm getting sick of the notifications but the insane entitlement gets to me. Neither you nor I can possibly know their feelings, motivations, intentions or morals. They have a right to privacy, as we all do unless we break the law.

MerryMaker · 14/01/2025 01:34

They have a limited right to privacy. And they get it. We do not have access to their health records for example.
But if they want more privacy, they need to stop using their children and marriages for positive PR

Google says differently.

It’s odd that a Prince of Wales, who’s family „”rule” over a people that don’t want to be ruled by them, can’t speak any Welsh at all, apart from a few words. It’s really disrespectful to the people of Wales. You would think that knowing he would become the prince of Wales he had a lifetime to the learn the language. But he didn’t. I know his father knows a few more words, but is not fluent in any shape or form either which is even more shocking because he spent decades being the Prince of Wales.

But there is always a decree of sycophancy at all events where the royals turn up. Starting with addressing another human being, in 2025, as your „”Majesty” or „”Your Royal Highness”, with a few people still curtsying one they get to meet a royal. In this day and age those things should categorically not be happening. But then there are clearly many people, still, who believe that the Royals are better than us. But they are not.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 14/01/2025 07:46

No difference really to calling a priest ‘father’ (including my cousin) or a bishop ‘your grace’ and Archbishop ‘your eminence’.

I’m heavily involved in the Greek church where luckily since Covid I just bow over the proffered hand instead of having to kiss it as well! And that’s for all priests not just the high up bishops and archbishops.
