Hsolley0904 · 11/01/2025 19:10

Just wondering if anyone lets their children have a TV in their room, and if so what age?

OP posts:
B0xes · 11/01/2025 19:12

I wouldn't. At any age.

Season0fthesticks · 11/01/2025 19:13

My children have had a tv in their bedroom for a good few years now
Aged 10. And two children share the tv aged 7 and 6

FoxtrotIndigoSierraHotel · 11/01/2025 19:13

Nope and I have four aged 12 and up. We don't and they don't.

sunshineandshowers40 · 11/01/2025 19:14

Mine do. All at secondary school.

Switcher · 11/01/2025 19:14

Nobody has a TV in their room. Feels like the road to hell to me.

CityofRojas · 11/01/2025 19:14

age six. But not internet access on it.

SlipperyLizard · 11/01/2025 19:16

I wouldn’t, because my sister & I had a tv in our room in the 80s and we would wait until my mum went downstairs then turn it on at lowest volume and watch whatever was playing.

My DDs have tablets & phones they can watch stuff on, but parental controls means they can’t do it when they’re meant to be asleep!

Farmwifefarmlife · 11/01/2025 19:16

Personally not till late teens

Hufflemuff · 11/01/2025 19:17

Mine has just got one at 10, but doesn't have a games console hooked up to it. IMO it's better to have them watching Netflix and Disney+ (with all restrictions) as opposed to crap on YouTube on their tablet or phone.

Whoarethoseguys · 11/01/2025 19:17

Not until they are young adults so about 16

BIossomtoes · 11/01/2025 19:18

Never. Bedrooms are for sleeping.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 11/01/2025 19:19

Well, I wouldn't consider having one in our OWN bedroom and I'm a 'grown-up' (apparently).

Iwishiwasagiraffe · 11/01/2025 19:21

My 12 year old has one which he only uses for his Xbox. It is a smart telly so he could watch Netflix but he isn’t interested in telly much. We will get 9 yo one for her switch next year probably. Not for watching programmes on though- she wants to be able to do just dance on her switch so needs a screen for it

Shopsrshut23 · 11/01/2025 19:21

They were 14 and 12. Definitely need to chill out in their own space and watch films with friends on sleepovers.

nmechg · 11/01/2025 19:21

No tvs in bedroom's in our house

Mespher · 11/01/2025 19:23

Ten

RosesAndHellebores · 11/01/2025 19:24

Absolutely not and neither do we

Hufflemuff · 11/01/2025 19:25

Those who are against it.... why???

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 11/01/2025 19:25

My 8 year old does.

Martymcfly24 · 11/01/2025 19:26

Nope.

I nearly failed all my mocks because my mother thought I was studying but I was watching TV on silent with subtitles on.

My children have similar levels of self restraint and work ethic to me.

TheWonderhorse · 11/01/2025 19:26

DD 12 does, but she uses it mostly for putting musicals on and acting them out, which is sort of exercise, right? 😂

It goes on about once a week though and not at bed time.

Glasgow1996 · 11/01/2025 19:26

Both my children have a 65 inch each don’t even use it rather sit in the living room and draw ✍️

age 6 and 7

RachelCarew · 11/01/2025 19:26

Mine did, at about 16 for DC1 from memory, they asked, exactly what @Shopsrshut23 said, relaxing, having friends round for a film night, etc.

WhenDoesTheWashingEnd · 11/01/2025 19:28

We have one TV in our whole house.

My son would stare and screens all day given the chance. Doesn't matter what's on it, he'll stare at it all the same.
But with no TV in his bedroom he gets his nose in a book instead when he's supposed to be asleep.

StrawberryWater · 11/01/2025 19:29

No TV in son's bedroom. Ds is 10.

We don't have one in ours either.

Can't stand the bloody things (though we do own one in the front reception room).
