Reform UK neck and neck with Labour?

NeatDog · 10/01/2025 11:09

Absolutely shocked to read that in a poll Reform UK are neck and neck with Labour...

About 25% polling share for Reform and Labour.

I thought Blair was the worst PM ever, but Starmer seems to be giving him a run for his money.

But there is nothing to resolve. There is nowhere in this country that is unsafe for you to go to if you are white person.

Yes there is.

Livelovebehappy · 10/01/2025 21:29

The issue with your quote being that very few are fleeing war and oppression. And those that are could flee war by going to the first country of safety they arrive in to apply for asylum….

You don’t know that, the civil service seem to disagree. And generally speaking, if somebody goes to all that effort and danger to make their way to these shores, I’m inclined to believe them when they say that they have fled war or persecution.

Yes there is.

Well in that case, the onus is on you to prove that they exist. And you can’t can you? Because they don’t.

In my town illegal immigrants are put up in a 4* hotel. They sit outside in the evenings smoking and vaping. Do you want a photo as evidence? You don't seem to be able to grasp that they are illegal immigrants. Where is this money coming from for cigarettes and vaping if not from the taxpayer? If they have their own money they should be made to pay their own accommodation bills.

You need to report illegal immigrants to the HO.

Why are you shocked?

I was about to say exactly this! I'm not remotely surprised. I'm more worried about the state of the country under this Labour govt than I ever was under the Tories. And that's saying something!

Honestly after Truss, how the fuck was Blair the worst PM ever??

I'd put Sunak and Bozo before Blair anyday.

and you can’t prove they don’t. People say they do , you chose to call those people racist based on your ideological beliefs.

There is nothing more likely to cause fear and hatred than failing to listen to lived experienced based on the colour of skin .

Sorry, if you honestly don’t believe there are no-go areas in Bradford, nor have had experience of walking through them or hearing of them, then I don’t believe you live here. Unless you live in the more upmarket post codes (not many, but they do exist…)

No I don't live in an upmarket post code. I've lived here for 7 years but before I moved to live here I socialised here for years regularly, several times a week, in pubs and clubs all over the city. I've never heard no go areas spoken of.

I think they must be asylum seekers who are either waiting to have their applications decided, or whose applications have been refused and are awaiting an appeal or to be returned to their country of origin?

Assuming that, they will have their hotel room paid for and either £45/week for meals and toiletries etc, or £9.10/week if their accommodation is providing their meals. https://fullfact.org/online/pensioners-illegal-immigrants-refugees-benefits/

Illegal immigrants receive nothing.

‘Illegal immigrants’ are not entitled to more benefits than pensioners - Full Fact

False information comparing benefits and other financial support has been circulating for more than a decade.

@caringcarer I can't work out if you're a troll or just genuinely stupid. Can you please explain how an ILLEGAL immigrant can get money from the taxpayer / government? Do you understand that asylum seekers are not the same as illegal immigrants? And that showing us a photo of a group of people standing outside of a hotel vaping does not prove your point about "illegal" immigrants as we've no way for knowing just by looking at them what their immigration status is??

If they are asylum seekers they are not illegal until their claim is processed and refused.

Wow! The biggest increase in immigration under Tories, the biggest hikes in taxes under Tories, prison overcrowding under Tories, intrest rate hikes under Tories, wage deflation under Tories, but 6 months of basically nothing under Starmer and you're worried....fuck me.

I look at papers like the Telegraph, Mail and Express, listen to people on here , and its like they live in another country to the one I live in. Like it was a fucking utopia until Starmer got into number 10.

Completely disconnected from reality.

Oh and I worked here for years on criminal justice projects as well.

19lottie82 · 10/01/2025 21:46

Why do people think a new party will make a difference? The problem is there is no money. Period.

2dogsandabudgie · 10/01/2025 21:47

HappyPanda613 · 10/01/2025 21:12

Why would we want to discourage people from seeking asylum in this country? It is our duty, as a wealthy and free nation, to offer shelter to people of the world fleeing war and oppression.

The RNLI or Royal Navy should be picking these people up themselves from the beaches of France, thus making the gangs entirely irrelevant.

Fleeing war and oppression? Last time I looked France wasn't at war.

The Foreign Office advise against travel to places like Pakistan and Afghanistan.

I'm shocked that people think there are no "no go" areas in the UK. Of course there are, there are areas where white people (especially women) aren't welcome.

It's time that people here woke up and smelled the coffee.

There are no no go areas for white people in the U.K. Name one if you are so sure and it’s so obvious.

stbeaker · 10/01/2025 11:32

Reform will get a chance - I’m sure of it.

What we need is a proper grown up conversation about why people are turning to Reform. Every time Labour try to cancel dissent by calling it "far right" they turn more people to Reform. Just like you calling for Reform to be banned rather than really understanding the reasons for its rise in popularity.

100% this! But people still won't listen. In their mind the 'reason' will always be 'because they're racist' 😴😴

Aren't Reform voters just Brexiters?

What's the difference?

anniegun · 10/01/2025 21:52

The Brexit voters need someone else to blame as that did not solve their problems. So Farrage points them at the immigrants. When they are gone and things haven't improved he will find another group to blame...

SammyScrounge · 10/01/2025 21:01

Starmer was loathed long before Musk and X came on the scene. Something to do with his policies probably.

I don’t loathe him. Yes, his popularity dropped, but loathe?

cardibach · 10/01/2025 21:53

Livelovebehappy · 10/01/2025 21:06

I live in Bradford, and have to drop off and pick up my son from work which is very near a no-go area. Whilst it might not be as common in some cities, there are many pockets in the UK where no-go areas exist. Fortunately people are starting to be heard here, and there have been increased police patrols in some areas, but it’s still a big problem unfortunately.

No go in what sense? Because there is nowhere you can’t go, and cities have always had bits where you might not choose to if you didn’t have to.

2dogsandabudgie · 10/01/2025 21:47

Fleeing war and oppression? Last time I looked France wasn't at war.

If France has no interest in settling these people then it’s up to us to do what we can to give them shelter. As many countries in Western Europe are starting to change their policies on immigration, we have an opportunity to set a good example and be the shining beacon against the rising dark that doesn’t abandon people who are down on their luck, just because they happen to be different.

2dogsandabudgie · 10/01/2025 21:55

HappyPanda613 · 10/01/2025 21:23

Houses. We need to build more houses. Houses for the young, houses for the needy, houses for the people seeking sanctuary from despotic regimes and climate disasters.

Houses, houses and more houses.

It is that simple.

And where is the money going to come from to build all these houses. Plus then you need more money to build more schools, GP surgeries, hospitals etc.

You also have to take into account finding land which is suitable for housing, impact on wildlife etc.

FishyBobB · 10/01/2025 21:56

Alexandra2001 · 10/01/2025 19:54

Labour could have knocked the wind out of their sails months ago if they had enough confidence in themselves and the working class not to frame their concerns in the terms of the far right

Err they did, Reform 4 MPs Labour 402

So "Bad call"

That’s first past the post in action. Not democracy.

Sorry, slightly pedantic but the foreign office only advises against travel to parts of Pakistan.

Many areas of Pakistan are perfectly safe to visit. I'm assuming your friend chose to either visit an unsafe area or has embellished his story a little!
