Reform UK neck and neck with Labour?

1000 replies

NeatDog · 10/01/2025 11:09

Absolutely shocked to read that in a poll Reform UK are neck and neck with Labour...

About 25% polling share for Reform and Labour.

I thought Blair was the worst PM ever, but Starmer seems to be giving him a run for his money.

Other parts of the World don't have massive amounts of people turning up expecting free houses and free money.
Maybe Farage could go to places like Japan and see why they don't have mass immigration?

The UK takes less than 1% of the world's refugees.

And they don't get free money and houses.

You sound very uninformed op.

Atissues · 10/01/2025 14:37

@Buzyizzy21
the poll was from December - a lot has happened this year so far that may mean it is out of date.

Plus National insurance rises in April. Leading to price increases and redundancies. Mortgage rates have started rising which is likely to lead to increased rents. Plus increased tax/or decreased spending. Cancelling local elections. Changes to education in schools (curriculum). All of this may affect how people vote. Redundancies. Private schools closing.

FTSE 250 not looking great today.

Refugees are not the problem!!!!! It’s illegal migration for economic reasons plus an immigration systems that allows people to bring in dependents.

The UK h as the highest immigration it has ever had 900,000 net immigration a year - under the Tories (Labour has not had time to do much about it yet other than kill off the Rwanda scheme which I did not favour anyway as too expensive). We are now second to the USA only on the planet of immigration. Norway is bigger than the UK but has 5.5m people tour 67m.

Not all of use want the UK to be so crowded. Yet no Government does much about it that works nor gives us a choice on it. Blair saw the biggest increase but the Tories after that have presided over huge numbers coming in.

Obviously as we were the biggest empire the plant has ever had and perhaps the most successful nation ever (other than our ex colony USA which may be pretty good no doubt thanks to our original influence) and more and more people want to come here we are clearly doing an awful lot that is right; but it is just too much - too many people.

There are lots of things any party could do to reduce it but they choose not to do so.

You post the same on many posts but have no suggestions on how to reduce immigration?

He's not a Cambridge grad. So immediately I'd be concerned about the reliability of some of your other information.

Johnson was far more dangerous as PM than Starmer is or could be. I'm relieved every day he is no longer in power.

Oh Gosh, yes, he went to Oxford. I stand corrected.

That error aside, no one in this country should let what Labour did yesterday with Starmer enforcing a vote against a much needed national inquiry into mass child rape gangs go. He needs removing. He’s despicable.

VanillaVein · 10/01/2025 14:28

You know full well that's not what I said but carry on hun. From other comments I've seen of yours over time I have no want to engage further with you.

Have a good day.

Ha at this and ‘hun’

Ok yes engage with others. Good idea.

Upstartled · 10/01/2025 14:42

A new yougov poll showing that 65% of Labour voters want to see a national inquiry on the raping and torturing gangs along with 77% of the general electorate. This enormous gap, right here, seen again and again between the Labour Party line and the opinion of the electorate is painful.

I've absolutely no problem with skilled immigration..... none at all.

They are not illegal immigrants. Why can't people see the difference between those immigrants who complete all the paperwork and are vetted coming over legally and the illegal ones who pay crime gangs to bring them over illegally?

I mean, all he has done is shine a light on the failiures, don't see how thats bad.

He's a far right rabble rouser determined to oust our elected government. Don't see how that's bad...

SlapTheMelon · 10/01/2025 14:44

Alexandra2001 · 10/01/2025 13:44

Ok clearer now.

We are out of Europe and apart from a science and some criminal data sharing, out of all of its structures... so what else do you want?

Immigration? Well pre brexit, at least most of our lower skilled workers came from Europe and many returned easily.... esp as their economies improved.... look at Poland?

Now we get them from SE Asia and Africa, places were English isn't a 2nd language and where, due to cost and the fact their countries wont improve much economically, they'll never return, even when visas expired.

Brexit has caused many of the problems here.

I am from one of those places btw. I'd love to go back and live there as life is better where I come from, but I love my husband who happens to be a working class Brit from up North.

My fellow countrymen and women who have immigrated here are mostly net tax contributors like me. Our culture is about working hard because if you don't, nobody takes care of you where we come from. Here I am a high rate tax payer. Ok, my grammar can be a bit sketchy but it's probably acceptable for my work in tech. I've never claimed benefit, ever.

I am as against illegal immigration and extremists as most of you are. But some legal immigrants like myself contribute and not take, take, take.

Reform need to be banned immediately before they start to get political traction amongst the working class in the north of England.

This is all the fault of X, and I hope Keir Starmer and the Labour have a robust plan for sanctioning social media sites that allow disinformation free reign to be accessed by ordinary people who do not possess the ability to sift fact from fiction.

Frightening times.

It is incredibly arrogant to assume everyone who disagrees with you is unintelligent. I’m not sure what you think elevates you above the ordinary.

You have been manipulated by misogynistic men not to ask too many questions and other people have been manipulated by misogynistic men to stir up trouble. So far it all seems pretty equal to me.

We will have to see how it all plays out.

MrsSchrute · 10/01/2025 14:45

NeatDog · 10/01/2025 13:03

The BBC has been talking about the crisis in the NHS all week.

We also know that Labout has been talking about a "housing crisis".

The truth is, we just don't have the resources to look after refugees etc.

Legal immigration is at almost a million net, but we don't have resources to care for the people who are fleeing dangerous countries??? That's madness.

hattie43 · 10/01/2025 14:45

People want change . I'm not sure Reform is it but the Tories were inept but labour is proving another level of incompetence altogether .

They don't need to be banned at all just because your views don't align with theirs .
Give people a choice . Labour and tories don't speak to everyone so let someone else have a go .

You sound very uninformed op.

They get basic benefits for food & free dental & medical care. Additionally if they remain they’ll be prioritised for social housing. In 2022 almost 50% of social housing in London was occupied by people of non UK descent. It will be more now in 2025.

Maybe it’s you who isn’t very informed,

caringcarer · 10/01/2025 14:52

TorroFerney · 10/01/2025 12:22

Well yes, if it’s your daughter being groomed (even if that’s been allowed to happen because you are a shit parent and have no idea how to look after a child) then what would you do? Would imagine that a lot of us pontificating on this thread are not going to be in that situation. Remember a labour minister saying that the suggestion that some benefit claimants spent the money on fags and booze and tv’s was just ridiculous. Really, obviously never been to a really deprived area where parents don’t parent and do just that. Who do we think they are voting for?

Edited

Many of the DC that were raped by gangs came through the care system. Also outside my local hotel filled with immigrants men congregate outside in the evenings and they all seem to be smoking and vaping. I have to drive past them every week to take DC to sport.

It’s not illegal to stand outside and vape, we’ve really hit the bottom of the barrel now.

“Hey George! Get a load of those immigrants, they’re standing! And Vaping! At the same time!”

We know this, and this is what upsets me about these debates.

We need people like you. You are welcome. One of the issues we have here is that the powers that be don’t want to single out those who collectively don’t contribute, or break laws, who rape and abuse. They hide these people in the massive pot. So, if you talk about these issues you are a racist, a bigot, and a far right supporter. You are saying all immigrants are not contributing, are abusers.

In a telegraph article posted here yesterday it said how Starmer doesn’t want to admit that a certain group of men don’t treat women like humans. He conceded by saying they are Asians. Now how f*cking insulting is that? Now I’ve lived in Asia, so I know that there are many different nationalities and cultures making up “Asia”. It’s a massive insult to all the “Asian” people in this country to use this broad term to describe those child rapists.

And yes, we know that these people, these immigrants, are pissed off too at not being able to access services they contribute their taxes to, and at being tarred with the same brush as those who move here and create havoc whilst milking the cow dead.

Yes sadly many of them then get involved in black markets and illegal activity. This can include exploiting others from their country who are innocently trafficked into illegal work. Unfortunately we don’t have magic soil in the UK that makes all new arrivals perfect citizens.

Once given status, refugees have the same priority as British citizens. Where did you get your evidence for the 2022 statistic?

I know you mean well, but this is really othering and patronising.

People in working class communities ( I come from one and worked in deprived communities for many years) are not stupid or inarticulate. They are a mix of regular people, just like you and yours.

The well meaning but insulting and patronising attitude exemplified in this post also drives people to the right.

Don't patronise people respect them, treat them as the serious people with the serious and legitimate concerns they have. That's how to win elections in a democracy.

I do not disagree with what you are saying, but just wanted to point out that my post was about Reform voters not working class people.

I do believe that many Reform voters struggle to understand complex political and economic issues. I think they often fall back on simple arguments like 'stop the boats' simply because they lack the ability to articulate better arguments and that it is wrong to label them racist for this. I firmly believe we should treat them with compassion and kindness and respect their lived experience. I suppose that is pretty much the definition of patronising, so you are correct with that.

I 100% agree with you that we need to take their concerns seriously and offer real solutions.

What a terrifying post. What next -burning books?

How dare the working class get a choice of vote. They need to shut up and listen to those who know what is best for them /s.
