HELP! [Child rape gangs in Bradford]

bradfordisdamned · 09/01/2025 17:39

I know this is a horrible subject.

This news article from today shows how much it's being ignored here

After the death of Star Hobson, Bradford was stripped of its child protective services because it was completely unfit.

It continues to be an absolute disaster. I feel that this nightmare is being ignored because Bradford just so happens to be the city of culture for 2025. It's being ignored for many more reasons than that of course, but this is completely and utterly unacceptable. I think officials just don't want to be accused of racism and our children continue to suffer because of it.

Can you please help me make some noise with this? I am going to be writing to my MP, but this needs more attention. We need to put pressure on prominent people to get a public enquiry underway. Rejecting it is despicable. They just don't want to admit we have a major problem.

I am pasting the article here because unfortunately the newspaper site can be riddled with ads that sometimes make it unusable, but I didn't want to ask for Mumsnet help without providing sources.

I don't think I'm being unreasonable to want this enquiry to go ahead. I think Mumsnet will agree with me. Thank you in advance.

Officials reject new calls for public inquiry on child abuse

A PUBLIC inquiry examining child sexual abuse in the Bradford area is "unlikely to provide us with any new learning", according to the district's safeguarding partnership.
In the House of Commons on Monday, Robbie Moore, Tory MP for Keighley and Ilkley, said "rape gangs and child grooming" have "haunted" the district "for decades" - and he again accused local leaders of refusing to launch an inquiry.

He added that he feared the scale of child sexual abuse and exploitation across the Bradford district would "dwarf that of Rotherham".

In 2014, a report by Professor Alexis Jay described how more than 1,400 children were sexually exploited by gangs of mainly Asian males in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, between 1997 and 2013.

Phillipa Hubbard, of the Bradford District Safeguarding Children Partnership, responded to Mr Moore's remarks by saying: "The national Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse, which was published in October 2022 and to which Bradford contributed, has made it very clear that this is a national issue.

"Like many local authorities up and down the country, we know that agencies in our district have made mistakes in the past.
"This is why we commissioned an independent review into child sexual exploitation which was published in 2021 so that all the agencies in our district who work with children can implement the learning from past cases.

"The review was extremely detailed and thorough, and was written by an independent author. It looked in-depth at local and national learning and best practice.
"In addition to the review, our multi-agency safeguarding team undergoes regular independent scrutiny from Ofsted and the partnership also publishes an annual report, which anyone can read and which is open to public scrutiny.

"All the local agencies who are working in our district to keep children safe are committed to continued development and improvement.
"The view of our partnership remains that a public inquiry would cost a huge amount of money, use precious officer time and is unlikely to provide us with any new learning that would better-protect children from being abused."

In response, Mr Moore said: "This is a complete and utter dereliction of duty.
"The Council says its 2021 review was 'detailed', but it focused on just five children.
"Meanwhile, the Rotherham inquiry focused on the experiences of over 1,400 children.
"The idea that a Bradford inquiry would bring about no new information is an outright falsehood - and I am completely shocked by these comments.

Thank you OP, I am writing to my MP to ask him why he abstained from this vote (Green).
The number of women MPs who have voted no is horrific.

I grew up in one of these towns and Pakistani Muslim would harass the schoolgirls in town, sat in their cars outside schools and cars homes and exploited ie raped and sexually abused the most vulnerable children.

I grew up in a very white town in the south and men there did exactly the same. They were white though.

Yes white men can be equally horrible, but we are talking about widespread multigenerational organised grooming and gang rapes. The key word is organised, and it’s not just organised it’s on almost an “industrial” scale.

This isn’t men in cars dog whistling young girls, it’s men gang raping young vulnerable girls.

CornishIrish · 09/01/2025 20:12

No one even cared or knew much about this before last week. So now in response to a billionaire, far right media owner who supports Tommy Robinson it has become the all consuming issue.

There have been enquiries and why we are pandering the whipping up of idiots for white supremacists motives and causes IS unreasonable.

There are a lot of ways you can help women and children but doing the bidding of a misogynist who works for a rapist probably isn’t one of them.

Have you read the judges summing up from some of these cases. One haunts me for a poor young girl who was raped by 4 Pakistani men. Just read them then tell me there isn’t a problem.

Menopausalsourpuss · 09/01/2025 20:13

No white men aren't equally horrible it's cultural based on racism. If white men did it they would be in prison for a long time. These rape torture gangs many hundreds involved men in the same family never heard of white men doing that in their hundreds or thousands.

Young women (especially those from troubled backgrounds) come much further down the pecking order than men of any colour or religion. That's why no action has been taken. Fear of appearing racist might be the convenient excuse used. But given the institutional racism and misogyny that is rife in the police force, I think it's mainly a case of victim blaming and misogyny wins again.

Anne Cryer Labour MP for Keighley from 1997 to 2010 campaigned tirelessly on this issue for years.

It is not a party political issue.

There is clearly an issue with groups of men of Pakistani descent (usually but not always poorly educated men whose attitudes towards women are those of backward, rural Mirpur) sexually abusing white girls (usually, but not always, poor girls from deprived backgrounds). If we cannot describe the problem we cannot solve it.

Believe me when I say I have cared about this for a long time, and it's definitely not because of a rich billionaire.

The crux of this is children in the UK are being raped, drugged, abused and murdered in some cases BY MEN.
The fact some of these men are Asian should not make a difference to the protection and welfare of the children.
I know some of these men are white, it happened to me when I was a teenager. Every one of them a white English man.
But guess what, where I lived was predominantly a white, middle class neighbourhood.

So these children seem to be being overlooked, even now, because people are hung up on the race and religion of some of the MEN.
FFS, this will never be kick started, whether it's implementing the Tory guidelines or starting afresh (which seems a ridiculous idea if the original documents can be tailored to suit each borough)

So can we please actually think of the children who are left with no defence, in whatever town or city they live in?

Seriously??? No one even cared or knew much about this before last week??? My God!!! You must have had your head firmly up your a*hole for the past 20 plus years!!!

Itsverycold · 09/01/2025 20:20

Honestly there should be some kind of referendum on this, but you can only vote on the issue if you can prove e.g. via a council tax bill or other legally permissible document, that proves you live in Yorkshire and Greater Manchester - let the victims and the witnesses speak on the matter, people who don’t live in areas where this is not happening and are using the scandal for their OWN political gains can stfu.

So were these white men in your southern town -

-sat outside children’s homes day and night?

  • in cars screaming ‘white cunt/slag at you as you walked home from school?

-gang raping a girl who was leaning over a toilet and vomiting after being plied with alcohol?

  • trafficking their victims from town to town for them to be gang raped ?

-kerb crawling through your town to scream abuse at you?

All these things happened in my town when I was at school, as well as I’m sure even worse.

Nobody including teachers , the police , social workers cared.

If you haven’t grown up as a working class girl in one of the towns or cities that they operate then you have no idea of the extent of the harassment and violence.

this is complete nonsense, women on the feminist boards on here have been talking about it for years.

If this had been addressed appropriately the 'far right' wouldn't be able to poke the stick now.

JessiesJ99 · 09/01/2025 20:23

I understand there is also a large number of children that were born to these young girls/ women. This is not really talked about. How utterly traumatising for them.

vikingnorthutsiresouthutsire · 09/01/2025 20:27

@JessiesJ99 more like 40 years - my friend's daughter is now 45 and remembers having to run the gauntlet of Asian men picking up schoolgirls outside St Joseph's College in 1984.
I was born in Bradford and moved away because i didn't want to bring my daughter up there. I too had instances of harassment, threats of rape, and a friend was beaten up and urinated and wanked on by a group of Asian men, the police refused to treat it as a racially motivated attack despite the racist abuse from them. I had teenagers throwing stones at my house and threatening "we"ll rape you, you white cunt." Again, the police refused to treat it as a racist attack.
I loved my city, I hate what it's become.

There was even a tv drama made about it.

it’s clear your* *speaking for yourself. That does not mean people didn’t care, it does not mean police prosecutions have not taken place, that things have changed for the better (still a long way to go).
you really need to just give it a cursory google because people have been fighting for these girls for years. Jess Phillips has personally fought for these girls.

someone 1000 miles away didn’t care. Why would they?

I don’t have white supremacist motives and I’m not an idiot.

Please don’t be advising anyone else on ‘ways to help women and children’ with your lack of insight.

Yes I knew three boys my age, two of them I went to school with and there father (the rapist) once did a bomb threat to our secondary school to try and kidnap them, not gossip to the neigh sayers, it actually happened, but pre internet and let’s face it, it’s not like that story would make national news.

Since when have people actually been scared of appearing racist?

Have you spoken to any police officers recently?

rumblegrumble · 09/01/2025 20:35

So many asking why we need another enquiry when we already had one - are most people not aware that the much-vaunted national enquiry investigated general child sexual abuse rather than the majority-muslim 'grooming' rape gangs? It lasted seven years and they spent two weeks investigating this specific type of abuse, they didn't consider the towns were most of this type of abuse was known to occur and they didn't even speak with the victims. People who are demanding another enquiry want one that specifically looks at this type of specific abuse where gangs of interrelated men systematically and repeatedly 'groom' and attack underage victims.

It needs to be a national investigation in order to spot links that may well be missed if the investigation is local; for example, at the moment all that is officially known is that Rotherham happens to have an issue with groups of predominantly Pakistani Muslim males targeting predominantly underage white girls. Coincidentally, it is also known that Telford has an issue with with groups of predominantly Pakistani Muslim males targeting predominantly underage white girls - and as it so happens, so does Oxford, Oldham etc... but there has not ever been any formal investigation as to what might link Rotherham, Telford, Oxford, Oldham etc. Now, we might think it obvious... but without an official enquiry the state can't acknowledge any link, and therefore there can't be any recommendations of how to prevent this specific type of attack that can be implemented.

Of course, the general CSA investigation was also important as all types of abuse must be examined and eliminated - and the recommendations should be implemented at once. But this is not an either or, those recommendations can be implemented now AND a specific enquiry also instigated to investigate this specific type of horror.

You are a massive fool and are diminishing actual witness testimony from people who have been abused or witnessed this abuse who have shared their stories in this thread.

You should be extremely ashamed of yourself - I don’t have a racist bone in my body, I am well travelled and love experiencing and sharing lots of different cultures and have had some extremely positive experiences in the very diverse places I have lived. We have a duty as parents, women and citizens of this country to call out where there are injustices - systemic rape and torture of girls by a group of men who share a cultural mindset that this is ok and a positive thing to do is what we are talking about here.

It is exactly your kind of attitude that helps this kind of scandal get brushed under the rug.
