Neighbour has been unwell with flu . Just rang and asked her if she needed any shopping . Gave me a short list including washing liquid . She asked for the Persil " non binary one " . 😁 She knows i am posting and wants to read the responses to cheer her up .

What! Is there no end to this madness??😂

FadedRed · 09/01/2025 12:17

Well, ‘persil’ is French for parsley, and a masculine noun, ‘le persil’ - so maybe your neighbour is ‘éveiller les consciences‘ (awaken consciousness or raise awareness) in reference to laundry issues? 😂

murasaki · 09/01/2025 12:17

Just make sure if you are buying food that you have her opinion on transfats, you wouldn't want to offend after all!

I think the neighbour is asking for light hearted reponses to her involuntary malapropism...

Excellent 👌 🤣

SparklyNewMe · 09/01/2025 12:33

I know what she is after - it’s Lidl Formil lavender one, I have being trying to find out how it identifies for 6 years, including asking on MN, but still no conclusion. Other non-binary scents available in this range, in case I get accused of being scentist. Get well soon!

HaddyAbrams · 09/01/2025 12:36

This reminds me of the time my friend joked that we should only ever buy 'best of both' bread. Because just white or brown was racist. Grin

Oh , get over yourself . She , as far as I know, has no issues with anyone's gender identification but clearly meant non bio .

TBH I’ve never understood why Persil is named after parsley!

Why is there no Coriander washing powder, I wonder?

Haven't you heard? Pronouns are out and *non-binary isn't a thing now, you can relax and have fun again.

Edited to say *except in washing powder obvs!!

BobbyBiscuits · 09/01/2025 12:53

That reminds me of when I was a kid, when we were first talking about sexuality. Probably aged about 9-10. The one we thought was the most fascinating was people who were 'BIO- sexual'
I think that one went on for quite a while before it was corrected. 🤣

Given some people think coriander tastes of soap (I don't, as it goes), you have a valid point there.

Ha! Reminds me of my students' typos of 'organism' and 'public'...

LookItsMeAgain · 09/01/2025 13:01

Sorry for the potential derail of the thread here but what are the chances that because this thread is discussing gender identification via a malapropism and not say names where Irish names are top of the list to have the piss taken out of them...that MN Admins pull this thread?

After all, it's all lighthearted and every point is valid, until someone finds that it isn't.

murasaki · 09/01/2025 13:03

I've just realised that my fridge contains sexist cheese. Where is the womanchego?

ladycardamom · 09/01/2025 13:07

My friend offered some of her little boys bisexual clothes for my little girl once. I think she meant unisex.

Careful, you'll be accused of shaming people who don't know what it means next 😂
