AIBU?

Share your dilemmas and get honest opinions from other Mumsnetters.

to be sick of threads asking for people's opinions on things, in which the poster gets upset if someone's opinion is not what they want to hear.

Apologies if this has been done a million times before, haven't been on here that long

But aaaaaaargh

Why post asking for opinions then get all huffy if the opinion makes you feel bad or isn't what you want to hear?

Have just encountered this a LOT today and it frankly puts me off posting on any thread which asks for my honest opinion.

Note: I will not be offended by any opinion on this topic

and the fact that we were joking about someone thinking their child was gifted for TEETHING early.

Man, you can't BREATHE on here without offending someone

But teething early isn't 'gifted' is it? Confused as to how this could possibly be offensive.

HereComeTheGirls · 04/05/2008 13:28

Of course I am willing to hear any opinions on this thread, even those which aren't particularly relevant to my initial post but just someone hijacking it in order to air a personal grievance

I am actually laughing at how much you have missed the point of my post

Will have to start a post about reading threads properly before having a go

OP posts:
HereComeTheGirls · 04/05/2008 13:31

Kerrymum..yes, but if you actually READ the thread properly we were then joking about someone who thought their child was gifted for TEETHING early.

OP posts:
MrsMattie · 04/05/2008 13:33

KerryMum, why are you taking it so personally? I do find many of the posts in the 'is my one yr old gifted' vein a bit silly. Am I not entitled to my own opinion?

I think I have posted on the G&T boards about twice in my life, and generally don't bother to give my opinion on this topic, as it's not relevant to me.

But if I want to jest about silly bints who pounce on any tiny aspect of their baby's behaviour to claim 'giftedness' on a light hearted thread, I bleeding well will - without worrying if it is going to possibly offend someone somewhere on the G&T threads.

justaboutdisappeared - that's very true. They do tend to be the 'My husband punched me in the face but I still love him. What should I do?' type ones, though (not always, but very often), when really there is only one sensible answer.

I'm talking about kids that are obviously NOT gifted, though!@KM. And I'm joking. If you can't see that, fair enough. I'm going now, as I was getting some light relief from this thread and really don't feel like a huge, pointless blow out about G&T.

HereComeTheGirls · 04/05/2008 13:39

She DIDN'T make any comment about gifted children.

She made a comment about people who post silly questions and then are offended if they aren't told what they want to hear.

Show me where she said anything offensive about the G&T??

I appreciate you might be upset about this subject but really I think you are picking your argument in the wrong place.

just my humble opinion of course

HereComeTheGirls · 04/05/2008 13:42

Seems strange that I was bullied mercilessly for being "G & T" as a child and yet can't even UNDERSTAND why you are coming onto this thread and getting so offended

OP posts:
MrsMattie · 04/05/2008 13:43

Do you want to know something really funny?@HereComeTheGirls?

I was a 'G&T' child, too, supposedly!

HereComeTheGirls · 04/05/2008 13:45

Well...say no more then

I think we should move swiftly on...~points back to the OP~

OP posts:
bergentulip · 04/05/2008 13:53

probably because all these gifted children turn into super-successful adults who make up for it then, and in turn make fun of us mortals with average intelligence.......

HereComeTheGirls · 04/05/2008 13:56

ouch.

oh dear, this is very sad and not how I had intended the thread to turn out.

Sorry all!!
