Shin lump

MimiDuncan · 07/01/2025 20:53

Hi, I recently found 2 little bumps/lumps on my shin bone. They are more visible when I put pressure on my legs but if I look for them I can see them. I honestly do not know how long are they there…I did not hit my leg recently. I will go to my doctor but wondering if these bumps are common? It makes me a bit nervous. Thank you.

Are you a runner, OP? Or if not very sporty?

JMSA · 08/01/2025 01:05

They look a bit like two HUGE mosquito bites that I got in Sicily last summer.

No I am not, but I was working in supermarkets for more than 10 years where I was standing all the time…pulling pushing trolleys packing out items…I don’t know if that counts

Hmmmm ...... I am probably wrong then. I had a lump like that in the same place which turned out to be stress fracture. It was caused by running and is a well-known sports injury. It is a crack in the bone.

They just look like bumps from where you've had a nasty bruise.

i can not remember hurting my shin in the last couple of years.

can they stay for years or forever?

I have all kinds of bumps on my shins that have been there years - I used to work in a supermarket and now work with animals, so lots of jobs where I bump myself regularly.

Personally they wouldn't worry me but obviously you should get them checked if you're concerned.

Cattery · 08/01/2025 09:47

I have the same. Had them for years. No idea what they are x

are they on your shin bone also?

If you're worried then definitely get them looked at - could be shin splints or something similar.

Cattery · 08/01/2025 10:11

@MimiDuncan Yes and feel knobbly when I touch them

Harrison12 · 08/01/2025 10:26

Do get them checked out if you're worried, but could they be dermatofibromas? These are harmless.

Didimum · 08/01/2025 11:02

My husband has one – went to GP, can't remember what they are called but something in the muscle. Maybe dermatofibromas.

I just checked some pictures about dermatofibromas and it’s definitely not what I have as I have it under the skin not on top of it.

Also no redness

You need to see a doctor - all you are getting here is people using google.

Cranberry2020 · 08/01/2025 11:59

I have these although they’re larger than yours and they’re from shin splints- fractures in the bone
get it checked out…

Yes exactly on my shin bones and painful to touch if I press. I had an MRI which showed what it was…

No – I was guessing the name there based on what a poster above said, and that's not what my husband had either. It is on his shin, underneath skin – like a hard little knot, doesn't move.

Oh I see thank you.

did he get any x-ray on his shin or any treatment for the lump?

is it there for years for him?

No, the GP could tell what it was, no x-ray or treatment. It's been there years unchanged. His is quite small though – pea sized.
