Shin lump

MimiDuncan · 07/01/2025 20:53

Hi, I recently found 2 little bumps/lumps on my shin bone. They are more visible when I put pressure on my legs but if I look for them I can see them. I honestly do not know how long are they there…I did not hit my leg recently. I will go to my doctor but wondering if these bumps are common? It makes me a bit nervous. Thank you.

I’ve got two of these on one shin. They look very similar to yours, although are a bit smaller and only really visible when I’m standing up. In my case, they’re little lipomas (benign fatty deposits) - lovely! They have a sort of ‘rubbery’ feel and I’d also describe them as feeling quite lymph node-like.

No, the GP could tell what it was, no x-ray or treatment. It's been there years unchanged. His is quite small though – pea sized.

Thank uou

I've had these for years. Don't cause any issues.

Thank you. Also on your shin bone? Or different parts of your leg?

Thank you for your reply.

is it in the middle of your shinbone like mine?

also is it hard?

OP posts:
Doliveira · 08/01/2025 14:37

Yes, it’s right on the bone. If I press it, it feels knobbly, but it looks smooth, like yours.

I think I feel the same

did you show it to a doctor?

I had the same and they grew to be quite large. Turns out it was a varicose vein. They did not hurt in themselves but sometimes it felt like my shin bones were sore. I would get the doctor to check it out.

i have lots of varicose veins but not by my shin bones and they are also roundly without any blue colour ( veins are blue coloured for me )that’s why I did not think they are varicose veins.

did you have your varicose veins on your shin bone also? Were they roundly?

No, I didn’t - GP had a look/feel and was confident they were just small fatty lumps. They’ve been there for years and haven’t changed.

I had similar on my foot and it was a 'ganglin'. Went away on its own after a couple of months

TheFormidableMrsC · 08/01/2025 16:50

Shin splints. I have them from exercise.

DancingFerret · 08/01/2025 16:50

I've had a lump on my shin that looks exactly like yours all my adult life, since my early 20s. I did mention it to a doctor when I first notices it, and he said it was a fat deposit that wouldn't cause any problems - and he was quite right.

dynamiccactus · 08/01/2025 17:12

I am a runner and I've had bumps like that. I don't think they are anything to worry about OP but as ever with these things, it never hurts to check them out just for your own peace of mind.

Shin splints can be pumps?
are they staying for years or maybe forever?

@MimiDuncan I noticed mine in my 20's and took myself off to my GP. He said shin splints. They're still there and I'm 55. I'm certain if you looked at a lot of legs you'd see a lot of them. Very common.

Thank you. I did not even checked my legs before.

It is painful nearly 2 weeks now and started checking them and that’s when I found these lumps.

When you touch it does it feel hard?

also do you have it in the middle of our shin bone?

StarDolphins · 08/01/2025 21:38

I found 2 of these on my leg, gp sent me to ultrasound & he said mine were from bashing my leg (don’t remember doing so) he said most ultrasounds he does are these.

Edited to add, mine felt hard like they were attached to my shin bone.

Laffydaffy · 08/01/2025 21:44

Please go to your GP. My sister had something similar, thought it was because she may have bumped it, but it was something more sinister.

We can reassure, but it is no substitute for a doctor.
