Shin lump

MimiDuncan · 07/01/2025 20:53

Hi, I recently found 2 little bumps/lumps on my shin bone. They are more visible when I put pressure on my legs but if I look for them I can see them. I honestly do not know how long are they there…I did not hit my leg recently. I will go to my doctor but wondering if these bumps are common? It makes me a bit nervous. Thank you.

I've always had these on my shins, my whole life. They feel rubbery when pressed

I found 2 of these on my leg, gp sent me to ultrasound & he said mine were from bashing my leg (don’t remember doing so) he said most ultrasounds he does are these.

Edited to add, mine felt hard like they were attached to my shin bone.

Edited

Thank you.

do you still have them?

or they went away after time?

Please go to your GP. My sister had something similar, thought it was because she may have bumped it, but it was something more sinister.

We can reassure, but it is no substitute for a doctor.

Can I ask what was your sisters diagnosis?

shs had lump on her shin bone also?

I am going to the doctor on Saturday.

I have these too. Had them for years, not painful or even particularly visible unless you look closely. If you go to the doctors please can you post what they said as I’d like to know too!

Sorry to take so long to get back but yes on my shin bone. Just looked like big lumps, no blue colour or visible veins.

I am going to the doctor on Saturday.

It was bone cancer. I must hasten to add, it was a rare cancer, especially for adults.

EternalSunshine19 · 10/01/2025 19:06

they're varicose veins.
I have the same lumps as you in the same place, went to the doctor and he said they're varicose veins. Tried compression socks and massage, they've never improved. I wanted to get surgery on them years ago but because they don't hurt or cause me any trouble it was seen as vanity and if i wanted surgery i'd have to pay for it.

the only thing I don’t think they are varicose veins is that they are skin colour, so no blue colour etc. and also no varicose veins next to it.

do you have any colour of the lumps on your shin bone?

No there is no colour difference for me. Its just skin colour. Let me know what your doctor says.

Yes mine are round. They looked exactly like yours years ago when i first noticed them. They're bigger now due to no treatment.

I know this post is old but I have a small hard lump about 2 inches below my knee cap, on thr front/side of my tibia. It feels like bone, but hurts a but when I press it. I think it's been there since April but I don't remember banging it. I'm more aware of it now as I'm doing a lot of cycling, but it developed before I started cycling. Anyone have the same where it wasn't anything sinister? It's not visible to the naked eye but I can feel it. It's not present on the other leg.

I would get anything that is unusual for you checked out. It’s a lump. See your GP. Better to be safe than sorry.

Danny46811 · 22/07/2025 17:08

Me again. So the Dr didn't seem too concerned but has arranged for an Xray at my insistence. He something about a possible bone spur?
While I wait however many weeks for my xray, can someone please calm my nerves and let me know if they've had any experience where a hard boney lump turned out to be nothing?! As I said, it does hurt when pressing on it and don't think it's grown. It's on outer edge of tibia none, just below the tibial tuberosity

Danny46811 · 22/07/2025 17:09

Bone, not none!

MaryBerrysFannyHammock · 22/07/2025 17:11

Are they hard or soft? Look like varicose veins to me.
