Off the lead and enjoying a run around, we were the only people in that area of the national trust park,
It was closed to cars and not many people brave (or stupid) enough to walk.

We stumbled upon a lovely little family of snowmen,
however the one that she could reach was a really small but brilliant feathers McGraw with a carrot for a beak. I was going to take a photo and realised she's pinched his beak and ate it!

She's never stolen anything before but she was so fast!

Aha! She's a Border Terrorist - that explains everything. Our girl (sadly now departed) loved a carrot (or anything else she could get her paws on). They are wonderful dogs - such characters.

They're bloody brilliant dogs aren't they? Never had a dog play with toys or wine corks like her !

I have a carrot lover too. She can tell when you’re chopping carrots as opposed to other veg. The kitchen’s empty, you start chopping and she’s suddenly there, sitting beautifully, being very obviously GOOD.

My husband has Pavlov'd our dogs to run to
The kitchen when they hear the squirty cream can 🤣

Mines the right height for sharing toddlers ice cream. I live near a beach. I have not been humiliated yet, I hope it never happens.

Same here....her face is just the right height for a toddler, in and out of a buggy. While I try and be careful I was at a farmers market and she took a toddler's snack. I was mortified and offered to buy it but the mum was ok as the child had nearly finished. Tbf the child was pointing out the dog using the hand the snack was in and in my dog's mind it looked like she was offering it to the dog.

She did once steal a scone from the tray at the bottom of a buggy when she was a puppy. It was in a dog friendly cafe in Cornwall and the buggy was parked in a corner while the family were eating. I had her on her lead and was paying with my back to her. When I turned around she was scoffing the sconeBlush. I found the family, apologised profusely and offered to buy another but they saw the funny side and refused.

Fortunately those have been the only times and while she tends to 'beg' she's not really been one to steal food.

My pup exactly! She has beautiful manners and always asks for carrot or cheese (but nothing else) by sitting behind me and giving my hip a gentle nudge with her nose.

RosesAndGin · 07/01/2025 19:24

My two have never stolen anything.....they just look at you until you admit defeat and hand over the goods!

Mine too. The chopping of carrots or grating of cheese and she’s there!

That’s not funny though is it. It’s terrifying for the child. What the hell are you laughing about???

Exactly. DS has a shocking phobia of dogs now due to an owner letting her dog bounce up onto my 6 year old boy and swiping a croissant out of his mouth and hand while we were just walking in the park are oblivious to the damage you do.

and another dog took a massive chunk out of our ball, again in the park. Why can’t you control your dogs?

All you having a joke and a jolly thinking it’s funny.

i now have to look at therapy for him. You have no idea the problems you cause.

Another carrot lover here! We did a 12 days of Christmas photo challenge with our dog trainer and one of them was to hold a carrot on your dogs nose, this was the closest we could get……

Yup, not something I’d want anywhere near me. Keep your dog on a lead if you can’t keep it away from innocent members of the public. Just the usual level of entitlement people have come to expect from dog owners.

You are the problem.

Omg i’m not a dog owner or a big lover of them, but have you always been this dramatic 😆
all these funny stories and then your posts 🙄nicest way thread might not be for you seems you may have issues with dogs.

Concretejungle1 · 07/01/2025 20:18

these have really cheered me up!
not dog but can i offer up my humiliation of my cat?
cooked lovely meal, he then stole the meat off the one relatives plate.
he was not sorry.
( i also may have spent a lot of time hiding to laugh).

We had taken great pride in our first crop of tomatoes in the greenhouse....but none of them seem to ripen...until I went early one morning and caught Ddog. She gently sniffed each one until she found one that was ripe enough to her liking and scarfed it down!

My dog loves working in the greenhouse with his granny, however due to past thefts of tomatoes he is usually left outside with the occasional tomato thrown out for him, which the chickens then steal from him.

Mine cocked his leg on the coat of a lady kneeling on the beach so that she could talk to her toddler. DH spotted what was about to happen and dived to shove him away, just as the lady moved back to stand. He knocked her over and the dog still managed to pee a bit. Lady is sprawled on the sand- toddler is now crying.

The dog had NEVER done anything like that before, or indeed since.

We were utterly mortified. Lady was shocked, but very lovely about it. I gave her £20 to get fish and chips because she wouldn’t let us pay to get her coat cleaned (tbf it looked washable, but that wasn’t the point).

I once watch a toddler surreptitiously feed several unwanted jam sandwiches to a Labrador that was laying under the train seat behind… sometimes it’s not the dogs fault…

I looked up once in a cafe to a toddler hanging out his highchair feeding my dog Victoria sponge.

This beast has just stolen a pat of butter and scarfed it down! Rookie error leaving it out.

My parents retired Guide Dog ( so should be above this sort of thing , yes?)
deftly took the cake from my grandfathers hand .
In the dog's defence , my grandad had Parkinsons so he was holding the cake at her eye level and shaking it (which to a greedy Labrador is a Green Light "Come and eat this" )

My Grandad was raging
My Dad ( laughed quietly ) had to tell the dog she was naughty !

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 07/01/2025 20:36

Same dog ( when she was a Working Guide Dog ) her owner /partner .guidee (don;t know the technical term) would give me coffee and a biscuit .
The dog ( knowing I was asleep) would come in and noisily breathe on the biscuit till it had enough Dog Germs that I said she could have it . She'd never steal .

It will…. Not a toddler but someone’s child ran over and offered their ice cream to my Lab. Of course, Lab took a big lick. I offered to buy another ice cream, but the parents had a lab too and just smiled and shrugged.

@Skiptogetfit my Lab was on a lead. It’s also happened with a bar of chocolate quickly produced from a child’s pocket. Unfortunately I was not blessed with cat like reflexes and was too slow to stop the exchange. Sometimes it’s the human’s fault. Sometimes shit happens.

Well, that put Feathers in his place. Not that he didn't have it coming of course 😁

When my son was about 3 he was in a laundrette with me enjoying a Mars bar. A lady came in with a German Shepherd who very gently took it out of his hand. The lady was mortified and went to the shop and replaced it. Son stood there looking mortally offended, I was nearly hysterical. He wasn't in any way traumatised and now has his own dog.

We were at a summer fete with a bbq, an elderly man was sitting on a low wall with a burger and chips in one of those polystyrene containers. As we walked past my dog went to grab the burger from the man's hand as he picked it up..he didn't even notice she did it so gently and sneakily....we weren't sure whether she had a lick so stopped him taking a bite and got a replacement. She doesn't even try to get food at home..Fortunately, he thought it was funny ..phew..
