To stay in a hotel in my hometown alone

DucksonthePondQuack · 06/01/2025 19:22

Just because I need a bloody break 🤣

Ive been offered a free hotel room in a nice hotel in my hometown, it has a swimming pool, a gym, nice restaurant etc. I’m a carer for my disabled son and this is under a breaks for carers scheme. Is it a bit weird to go on my own in my hometown? I’d get room service, go for a swim, watch TV in bed and enjoy the peace!

Do it! It sounds wonderful! And being in your home town you should feel less stressed about being away from home if there is an emergency. Just make sure that you are only disturbed if there is a REAL emergency though... Otherwise it isn't a break.

Ellmau · 06/01/2025 19:31

Absolutely do it, it's to give you a break.

Imfineitsfine · 06/01/2025 19:32

Do it!

Tia86 · 06/01/2025 19:33

Yes this sounds like a great offer! Take the break you deserve!

Thank you 🤩 It feels a bit weird as I’m not going for any particular reason and I’m leaving DH and the kids on their own. They will be fine lol.

You are going for a reason. You are going in order to have a break from caring.

BlueMum16 · 06/01/2025 19:35

Enjoy. Sounds amazing.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/01/2025 19:36

Not weird at all. Bite their hands off at the offer and give yourself a bit of well earned down time.

LittleRedRidingHoody · 06/01/2025 19:37

Sounds fabulous. Hope you have the best time!!

QuestionableMouse · 06/01/2025 19:37

Absolutely do it. I did a few times and it was so nice - I treated myself to some nice snacks and made the most of it!

cestlavielife · 06/01/2025 19:38

Have a great break go for it

comoatoupeira · 06/01/2025 19:38

Sounds like you need to read All Fours by Miranda July 😀

ViolinsPlayGentlyOn · 06/01/2025 19:39

Sounds fabulous - definitely do it!

Trickabrick · 06/01/2025 19:40

Enjoy! It’s very sensible, you’re not wasting any time travelling a distance to get there!

toomuchcheesetoomuchchocolate · 06/01/2025 19:40

Will your DH & DC know where you are? My only concern with you being local is if they came to visit or asked you to pop home for some reason when they wouldn't if they were further away. I might just say that you're not going to be far but not say exactly where

Opinionsprettyplease · 06/01/2025 19:41

Oh my god do it.
All the (well deserved and very much needed) benefits and none of the travel hassle.
🤗🤗🤗

I can't believe someone has voted YABU! Hopefully that was a mistake.

YANBU, I have a Premier Inn right at the end of my street and I often dream about booking myself in on my own for a night 😆
Go enjoy a lovely night of peace. It's not weird at all.

DisforDarkChocolate · 06/01/2025 19:41

That sounds bloody lovely. Go for it.

Mankyhaven · 06/01/2025 19:41

Definitely do it! It sounds like a lovely treat for you, enjoy it!!

Dearg · 06/01/2025 19:42

Actually, I think it sounds lovely. Close enough to feel right at home, but away from your usual responsibilities. Have a great time !

IKnowAPlace · 06/01/2025 19:42

If it's free, you may as well! You have a good reason to have a break, and knowing you're near home means it's easy to deal with any (unlikely) emergencies.

Longwaysouth · 06/01/2025 19:44

Sounds wonderful. Wish they fid that in our area

It’s called Carers Space and they offer hotels for carers in the UK. Google Carers Space - you pay a small admin fee per break but it’s worth it and you can take a companion if you wish.

Nah, they wouldn’t come to visit and DH unless it’s an emergency wouldn’t call me away.
