To think BBC news is lost to us now - bloody Farage on this morning

Why is he being platformed yet again to repeat the surely libellous and undoubtedly inflammatory language about KS and JP spouting from Elon Musk. Saying it's free speech?! Just irresponsible and vile. Even the way he refers to the PM as Starmer is just so rude and disrespectful.

I'm a massive supporter of the BBC and the licence fee but the news branch has clearly been infested with Tory supporters in high places and it's just not what it was now.

It's reputation and standing is being shredded😓.

You have got to be joking. The BBC could not be any more left wing bias if they tried.

It is astonishing.

Seriously???? How many times has farage et al been on compared with left wingers? I'm more centrist myself but the bias is evident

Yeah, nothing beats a completely binary choice between icy cold water or scalding hot water when washing my hands. Or the thrill of having to wash my hands really quickly under the hot tap while its still at the "luke warm" phrase before it becomes uncomfortable. People from other countries criticise Britain for this and they are right too!

But they wear the washers out and are prone to leaks. Because of all that admittedly joyful swinging on the gear stick!

bombastix · 07/01/2025 15:18

@biscuitandcake - and for some years. There is faintly ludicrous bit in Churchill's war papers where he praises Stalin's mixer tap.

A xenophobic scientifically illiterate public schoolboy multi-millionaire climate change denier who wants to abolish the BBC. Yeah, great idea.

He's not wrong about abolishing the BBC. I do watch some programmes and would probably pay a subscription, but see no reason why anyone who doesn't watch should pay. Most people stream now.

I think there’s a lot not right with the BBC, but abolishing it is a bad idea for lots of reasons.

If you got rid of the BBC who would benefit?

Left or right politics?

bombastix · 07/01/2025 18:37

I wouldn't have Gardeners Question Time and would lose a significant part of my national identity as a consequence

Left or right politics?

Given that it at least tries to be centrist (Tory apologist Laura Kuenssberg notwithstanding), definitely the right - as most other MSM is right-of-centre.

Whotenanny · 07/01/2025 19:47

If you want media to agree with then read the Guardian 🙄

satsumaqueen · 07/01/2025 20:44

It’s about time the BBC did start having people like Farage on, because they are supposed to be politically neutral, and up until this point they certainly have not been.

I don’t agree with a lot that he says, but his opinion is worth hearing, especially since every Reform candidate got over 800,000 votes each in the last election. I’m aware it’s not how our voting system works, but they had the vote of a decent chunk of our country and those people deserve to be represented.

Farage is alot more popular than Starmer, tbh I can't believe people still get their news from the BBC I can't bear to watch it and think it is responsible for brainwashing the British public and making them stupid on what's going on in the world. I have looked on the bbc website and they've hardly covered the racist child rape scandal (as I am now calling it) so think alot/most of the public don't know the horrific details. They seem to think Jess phillips feelings are more important - deflect, deflect, deflect.

It’s not a popularity contest. Farage won’t even do surgeries in his constituency. He lied about the reasons for that. I don’t believe you actually think he’s competent to be PM. Or that he even wants to do the job.
Theres loads on the BBC about this issue. And if you look back 10 years or so to when it became known there was even more.

I'm not interested in farage and definitely don't think starmer is competent to be mp, stop deflecting like the BBC. This latest story is because Musk released the court notes of some of the trials - you need to read them, they're horrendous. This is all new detail for alot of people including me and includes a racial element - these are Pakistani muslim men who hate women and particularly white women and children (girls) and tortured and raped them in the most obscene way. The victims were ignored, arrested (rapes are still happening) to avoid upsetting these communities most in labour areas so people think there's a cover up and want an enquiry to include prosecuting people In authority. Labour is blocking it. I didn't see any of this on the bbc website just a load of crap about Jess phillips. It could be getting detailed coverage on the bbc (I don't have a tv licence) but I doubt it as contradicts their poisonous woke agenda.

Musk didn’t release anything. The court reports are in the public domain and have been for ages. If you didn’t know about it 10 years or so ago when it went to court that’s nobody’s fault but your own. There was no cover up of those cases. Yes, it was terrible the way it was handled before it eventually got to court, but changes t9 rules have been made and there’s been a national inquiry which has delivered recommendations. The Tories refused to enact them, but Labour are doing so.
BBC News will be dealing with - well - news. The threats to Jess Phillips are news. A decade old court case is not.
The ignorance around this from people who claim to know it all is astounding.
I’m not sure what you think I’m deflecting, or why you think Starmer isn’t competent to be a MP, all evidence appearing to be to the contrary.

MerryMaker · 07/01/2025 22:17

I read the court reports at the time and the report of the National Sexual Abuse Enquiry.
The people calling for another enquiry have no idea what they are talking about. We need the recommendations from enquiries enacted.

Menopausalsourpuss · 07/01/2025 22:26

That is all rubbish. The reason I and most people didn't know about it 10 years ago is because the media didn't show us this detail 10 years ago ( and 10 years ago I got most of my news from bbc/c4 etc like most people still do). I remember the steven Lawrence enquiry (and George Floyd which wasn't even in this country), we got wall to wall coverage on every detail whereas these cases are reported sporadically and not in detail and buried at the bottom of the page. Charlie Peters the gb news guy who has done alot of work on this has said he was the only media at the latest cases - they are STILL GOING ON it is not a 10 year old story. And the last enquiry covered as part of a general cse investigation, hardly looked at these Pakistani muslim rape gangs and didn't investigate who had converted up - there have been NO prosections of those in authority and that is what we want.

Ypu can only prosecute people who break the law. The new Labour Bill will include making covering up/not reporting child abuse a criminal offence so there you go. It was indeed all over the news 10 years ago. That’s how I know about it.

MerryMaker · 07/01/2025 22:32

Jay report being reported on by BBC 8 years ago.
Maybe you should read BBC news instead of what you are currently reading?

Menopausalsourpuss · 07/01/2025 22:46

Nope it didn't get any where near the coverage as the steven Lawrence scandal even though it was alot worse - at least 4 girls were murdered. If the races had been reversed it would have been wall to wall coverage and Labour would be mentioning it everyday in Parliament. And none of the reports had anywhere near the level of disgusting detail that Musk tweeted. I think Rupert Lowe is pressing to get the court papers released to the public as the victims were told they would have to pay thousands of pounds for the privilege, he is a hero.

Menopausalsourpuss · 07/01/2025 22:48

And I am taking about people who covered up being prosecuted not future ones as Jay recommends.

It was covered on R4 Today programme and Channel 4 news.

Menopausalsourpuss · 08/01/2025 21:58

Oh that's alright then got mentioned a few times. Do you actually remember the steven Lawrence case (or even George Floyd) both got saturation coverage even though one wasn't even in uk. They choose what to highlight- legacy media are such scum can't bear the BBC.

EsmeSusanOgg · 05/01/2025 10:39

Well what exactly was your point then?

They are clearly different, and of you say you understand that, why did you equate them if not to make a disingenuous point?

I’m sorry if you didn’t understand my post, even though I clearly stated I’d exaggerated to make point. Let me simply further. If political difference (however you define that) is okay, but ‘hate speech’ (however you define that) isn’t, who decides whether something is one or the other? Where’s the line between political difference and hate?

Statements based on facts should be easy to easy to prove, so that’s fine. And course, at the extremes that you have drawn on it appears easy…but not everything is at the extreme is it? Indeed, as many political differences are based on ideology and not fact, presumably they’d be disallowed in your world as well? If there are no facts, who decides if a statement is one of political difference or hate? Because if you want to allow one and not the other they will have to be defined. And, taking your approach, someone has to decide so there will need to be a way of deciding. It shouldn’t be too hard for you to articulate a process should it, if you believe it’s straightforward?
