To think BBC news is lost to us now - bloody Farage on this morning

Why is he being platformed yet again to repeat the surely libellous and undoubtedly inflammatory language about KS and JP spouting from Elon Musk. Saying it's free speech?! Just irresponsible and vile. Even the way he refers to the PM as Starmer is just so rude and disrespectful.

I'm a massive supporter of the BBC and the licence fee but the news branch has clearly been infested with Tory supporters in high places and it's just not what it was now.

It's reputation and standing is being shredded😓.

Ever astonished how all of sudden liberals care so passionately about national sovereignty. Its so out if character I find it hard to accept there's any sincerity in it.

"Liberals". Tell me you know nothing about UK politics without telling me you know nothing about UK politics.

And FYI. Its perfectly possible to be on the left and care about sovereignty (see Corbyn's ambivalence over the EU and the Lexiters. Its perfectly possible to be on the right and care about e.g. gay rights, or be angry about the summer rioters (majority of Tories and even Reform voters). The idea that everyone who disagrees with you is on some opposite team and you know exactly what they think and have always thought is a stupid American import that needs to be sent back (some American imports like the Simpsons, mixer taps and David Sedaris are are good BTW).

If you didn't filter all your views on the UK through a prism of US politics you would know that! Why do people living in the UK do this?

What?! I couldn't make sense of any of that. I said liberals and not leftists for a reason. What was the purpose of the left/right paragraph?

Abhannmor · 06/01/2025 12:47

Mixer taps are awful. David Sedaris is wonderful. You can't map US politics onto Britain. Or indeed anywhere else. As Musk will discover.

Wes Streeting's reply (linked) is quite interesting. One effect of Farage/Musk here that I think is broadly a good thing is that it's pushing politicians to use clear, unambiguous language themselves instead of being wishy washy with euphemisms and platitudes.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cly4j1gpd5yt

I think Streeting is clearly the next leader of the Labour Party and a future PM. He's as centrist as Blair was but his working-class accent makes him appear more unpolished and trustworthy.

I also think politicians play power games. Health Secretary is a graveyard of a job because the NHS is so impervious to reform. I believe Starmer has put him there to slow down his progress a bit ...

Take that back! Mixer taps are marvellous. Particularly the kind with a single, joystick handle.

I agree, Wes Streeting has cross party appeal. He comes across as intelligent, practical and compassionate. Not easy to balance.

eurochick · 05/01/2025 09:35

He shouldn't be cancelled but he has been given a platform over and above what is appropriate for his level of political support for at least a decade.

I agree with this. I don't believe people should be 'cancelled' (nonsense term) but the BBC has long given Farage more airtime than he warrants than eg the Green Party since way before he was actually an elected MP, and why were giving so much airtime to anything Elon Musk says is beyond me.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 06/01/2025 13:56

Unless that arch feminist Musk, or his pussy grabbing boss. 😁

The BBC is supposed to be politically neutral (although I find that questionable at the best of times) that means giving air time to a range of different political figures… not just the ones you agree with.

It isn't though is it. Laura K was known to hand boris notes pre interview .

Too left or too right for you?

I normally vote conservative.

He comes across as a moron who thinks that regurgitating platitudes will fool the public that he is actually capable of doing anything. He has achieved literally nothing, and has 0 ideas. Everyone can spout all day about ‘reform’ (ironically) of the system, but what is he actually doing.

Unfortunately he is right about thing. The public, or a lot them, are fooled easily.

It’s always the same with these type of people.

A dude is a woman, until the women themselves start losing out to men in their sport, start turning up in their hospital wards.

Everyone should pay more tax, everukbe except them.

Open the borders for unlimited refugees, but don’t house them in these people’s neighbourhoods.

Everyone should give up electricity and cars, and gas heating, and flying abroad, should walk everywhere and live in a mud hut and eat dry tree bark. But don’t ask them why they need their big cars, holidays and multiple trips getting around for climate jollies… sorry protests

And When you call it out, they get so triggered. Engage in whataboutery, but can never explain the inconsistency in their position.

OneAmberFinch · 06/01/2025 19:22

YABU to refer to the BBC as being lost to "us" to refer to people who want Farage to be completely deplatformed, as if you speak for every taxpayer/licence payer!

Yeah, nothing beats a completely binary choice between icy cold water or scalding hot water when washing my hands. Or the thrill of having to wash my hands really quickly under the hot tap while its still at the "luke warm" phrase before it becomes uncomfortable. People from other countries criticise Britain for this and they are right too!

We can all attack and slag off each other but ought to stand against non UK citizens like Musk, whose platform X is calling for the murder of Philips and Starmer... the posts are still up there, no moderation.

Though it has to be said, those on the right certainly don't seem to have any problem at all in supporting Musk.

Not read a single post condemning him the usual right of centre posters, its all "Don't shoot the messenger"

Can you show where he called for that?

What an extreme comment. And a lie at that.

"It really isn't, a load of garbage"

OK then - I am all ears waiting to see your detailed counter arguments on:

A) What is a woman ?
B) Should taxation be increased and if so where?
C) Are current levels of immigration sustainable, if so should there be any limitations, if not then how would you reduce it?
D) Renewable energy- do you believe that a net zero target by 2030 is desirable and achievable?

This should be fun 🤩.

Menopausalsourpuss · 06/01/2025 22:27

Agree that farage is on too much, I would like to see alot more of Rupert Lowe - he is a breath of fresh air and has actually run a compan**y unlike most of the incompetents in labour and tory parties. Would be great as prime minister.

Lambington · 06/01/2025 22:53

Musk is right. Farage needs to resign as leader of reform and stand down as MP for Clacton.

A xenophobic scientifically illiterate public schoolboy multi-millionaire climate change denier who wants to abolish the BBC. Yeah, great idea.
