Absolutely shit scared about the future in the UK?

JDNCh · 04/01/2025 18:17

Name changed - I’m genuinely terrified by the hate, division and atmosphere here right now, online and spilling over on the ‘the real world’. I’m scared by how quickly things are changing, and just how much influence the US/Elon Musk/Reform+supporters are having. I’m scared of what the actual point of it all is - what’s the endgame? And what’s the solution? Why is no one protesting/rising up from the other way? Do people generally agree with all this?

I’m in no way a minority (white, female, 30s), I’m not super left, I have one little boy and I’m so scared for his future. I don’t want to live somewhere so intolerant with this constant atmosphere of distrust and something getting ready to blow.

What’s the general consensus? Is this what the people of the U.K. want?

What we have now isn't perfect by any means, but it's infinitely better than the absolute shitshow we had for the previous 14 years. The Tories absolutely trashed everything and left the country far worse than they found it. The previous Labour government was a golden age compared to that.

Yes

Toastandbutterand · 05/01/2025 05:09

There are shit people.

It doesn't matter where they were born or where they were raised.

Saying they can only come here based on their education is giving you all a false sense of security. Shit people are everywhere. They are already here.

If you don't let them in when they need help you either kill them or risk invasion. You need a better solution.

I agree with you here the Saudi Arabian man who committed the attack the German Christmas market was a psychologist, his education didn't prevent him from killing 5 & injuring 200

SidhuVicious · 05/01/2025 04:47

Whilst a horrifying case that's not remotely similar. She was raped over a nine year period.

A comparable example would be a throng of hundreds of western men sexually assaulting dozens/hundreds of women in the middle of the street in one night.

Actually screw you

That's a disgusting thing to think. You seriously don't see the similarities of patriarchal systems using women? and you are minimising her assault?! To defend your racism?

Yuck.

Where have I said they haven't?
I was agreeing with you by giving the example of the perpetrator from the Christmas market last month! His education didn't matter, he still committed that deadly attack.

I know, sorry if it came across wrong!

Thankyou, I was just repeating it really cos it seems it needs repeating over and over and over judging by some posts!

A rather long way of saying you can't provide any similar examples.

I actually think @Toastandbutterand is being polite with you.
Your assertion that being raped by 50 men over nine years is so much more fine for the ladies than being raped by 50 men in one night is making you look like a weirdo and I suggest you stop digging.

I didn't choose to leave the UK and it's brought different hardship to have been forced; but I'm glad I left and it's shown me proof of concept, that a better life can be had, that there are healthier people to be among. The politicians where I am - can't say where - are if not far healthier then at least not anything like as generally corrupt, or insincere.

Six months before my having challenged corruption came to a head I had realised I needed to leave for my safety and mental health, and wish that I had done, though I have learned lessons in certainty by waiting for things to come to a head.

Reform, very sadly, are not unlikely to win the next election. Their plain incompetence isn't in itself a handicap, as the current and last few administrations haven't been competent either. The project they all share goes on regardless.

People think there is a dialogue in progress and that taking part in a supposed democracy can lead to change. Some of us have engaged directly with the UK's parody of democracy for years and know how sewn up things are.

By leaving I've been able to think freely. I'm aware people who have a similar experience to me will stop themselves arriving at certain conclusions because life would be intolerable, to realise things and stay and be unable to leave. If I'd stayed in the UK the things I've said online would have led to an arrest and I've seen where those kinds of 'arrest' have led. I'm not even talking about anything familiar to discussion here but whistleblower material in relation to the State and its own corruption.

Fascism is present and active in the UK, not something on the way, and it will be getting worse whether you're loving it or are a boiling frog.

If anyone can leave they should. It will be thirty years or more, if we have that, before direction could even possibly change. Thirty years.

The UK has gone downhill since Brexit but at least we've now had an election and have a government getting on with things for a few years. The USA situation is concerning but we're better off in the UK. Get out in nature or read a book, or whatever gives you peace.

A government getting on with things, seriously? They’ve just taken over where the Tories left off nothing is better! The issue is Trump cannot work with Starmer, remember he accused Starmer of interfering in the US elections! Farage is very close to Trump and Musk and given the chance they would love to see Farage as PM, Musk has telephoned Charles telling him he should dissolve parliament (not that Charles would the monarch is apolitical). Musk is already reportedly given a huge donation to Reform. Unfortunately as seen in the US money can influence elections, so with Musk’s money Regorm can run a huge campaign of misinformation which sadly many will believe. At the next GE the far right has a very strong chance of winning the GE. The racist Farage has already said he’s going to contest Kemi Baddoch’s seat. If she was a white male sitting MP who wouldn’t have do it! Why did he not contest Starmer’s seat in the last GE?

But we won't have another general election for four years. I seriously cannot see the government collapsing before then, Farage won't be replacing Starmer anytime soon.

Walrusdress · 05/01/2025 07:40

This country has changed beyond belief, especially in the last couple of years.

Don't be surprised when people don't like that, bearing in mind that we were never asked if we wanted this.

Brexit was a warning that the left chose to carry on ignoring.

I personally cannot wait.

I just can’t see it blowing over though - nothing seems beyond belief atm. It’s all so unpredictable - maybe I’m catastrophising but I feel like I wouldn’t be
surprised if all that changed in the next week!

I can't see the government crumbling however now is a very good time for Labour to show strength & rework legislation to favour the victims not the accused.

I have so much nostalgia for the lovely 90s🥰 Those were the days... Blur, Oasis, Pulp, All Saints ,Spice Girls... Doc Martens, Exclamation spray, body shop lip balm... would love if this was the 90s & my kids were living my teen years.. no social media.. bliss..

LizzieSiddal · 05/01/2025 08:15

I’m scared too when I really think about what’s been going on over the past few years. We’ve had Brexit only due to the lies told by Farage, Johnson etc. why people trust these men icant fathom. They’ve absolutely damaged our country beyond repaid and a lot of people don’t care about that.

I think we are fucked tbh.

ThisOldThang · 05/01/2025 08:28

Ponoka7 · 05/01/2025 00:11

They were scumbags and idiots jumping on a bandwagon. The rumour started that it was a terrorist attack by a migrant, that was mostly true. The attacks across the press because the mother of a teen went on a booked holiday was disgusting. It wasn't like her child went and killed children. Meanwhile there is silence about parents being so disconnected from their children, they are being convinced to kill in the name of their prophet. If Catholics were killing in the ways we have had happen, there'd be national strategies and duty on religious organisations to counter act the messages being put out.
I've witnessed news blackouts, the police lying/denying on what really caused one riot/incident and if I hadn't of witnessed it, I wouldn't believe it.

What did you witness? I'm genuinely interested.

I remember watching scenes from the Hungarian border live on Sky News during the migrant crisis. The footage/spin was completely different when it was broadcast as the evening news.

The live footage showed migrants rioting and throwing roof tiles at the Hungarian border guards. Numerous guards were injured and they responded with tear gas to disperse the people trying to violently force their way across the border. The evening news completely changed the events to 'Evil Hungarians attack peaceful migrants with tear gas' with zero mention of the violence initiated and perpetrated by the migrants.

Not angry about how much damage the Tories did in 14 years?

JDNCh · 04/01/2025 18:26

@NeverGuessWho the rise of the far right? After the summer riots, there were plenty of counter protests and what felt like some hope. It doesn’t feel like that any more to me.

and you’re right, why don’t I? Probably because I have a toddler, work full time, I am knackered and I am scared and it feels ineffective against a billionaire with influence. But you’re right, sitting on my arse anxiously checking the news won’t help - but genuinely what can be done? I don’t think a traditional protest is what this requires.

OP, stop feeding your brain with social media and curated news feeds and start living your life. It’s a lovely world out there.

Racism. Oooof. Ouch. I’ll get my coat, shall I?

I was raised in Muslim countries. I know what I’m talking about, it’s why I’ve chosen to live here.

Get back to me with examples of systemic cover ups of the rapes of (I think current estimates 250,000) quarter of a million ethnically different children in a western country where equality is enshrined in law and I’ll listen to you.

I know how women and girls are viewed in those cultures. I also know how those cultures view western girls.

Yout knee-jerk dog whistle response pretty much encapsulates the problem.

As a student in Nottingham, a dd more than once had young boys, neighbours, of no more than 9 or 10, yelling, ‘Dirty white whore!’ at her and her housemates. And yes, they were of the same religion and ethnic origin as the Rotherham lot.

No prizes for guessing from whom they’d learnt such attitudes.
