To be horrified at how much worse the "grooming gangs" actually were than I thought

There are several other threads about Elon Musk, Labour, Jess Phillips, etc.

I don't want to discuss them in this thread. The other threads keep getting derailed and I just want a place to discuss how absolutely horrifying the new details that emerged this week are.

I knew that there were "grooming gangs" who would entice girls in care or from broken homes to be their "boyfriends" by giving them cigarettes and vapes, for example.

I didn't know that girls as young as 11 were being brutally tortured and raped, that people had been killed over it, including one policeman who arranged for some of the rapists to get off, houses burnt down. I didn't know the details of the violent gang rapes which I won't repeat here but you can find on X.

I'm just genuinely shocked and horrified.

Some of the court transcripts circulating are from 2013. How did I not know?

What disgusts me the most is how people were aware but turned a blind eye due to racial sensitivity and the attitude of oh well it's a teenagers right for some of the older girls etc. Makes my blood boil.

They turned a blind eye to abuse by Catholic priests and the Church of England too. Not many threads discussing that here for some reason.

I suggest you watch Three Girls on iPlayer. This isn’t new and has been happening years, a lot of the victims aren’t seen as ‘perfect victims’ due to upbringing/class bias and have been left to deal with things alone. Some were labelled child prostitutes, which is ridiculous as they can’t consent so it’s child abuse.

Who is "they" and have you been reading the news for the last five years?

I read a broadsheet daily as well as several other sources and I had never seen these details. I was at university in 2013 and didn't, tbf.

I've seen a lot of headlines over the years about it being a moral panic though.

Op, did you hear about Three Girls when it came out in 2017 on the BBC? V upsetting but necessary drama which is how I, 11yo in 2017, heard about this vile case.

I also heard more about when a bit later I read Sue Lloyd-Roberts 2015 book The War On Women, which quoted the brave whistle-blower MP Anne Cryer & the Muslim campaigner Yasmin Alibhai-Brown. But I know these were a few voices in a sea of disgusting indifference.

On another note, it seems the Asian girls these men abused were mostly Sikh, as these evil men saw it as fine to treat 'kafir' (non Muslim) girls in that way. Part of the reason for Sikh-Muslim tensions, some Sikhs even support Tommy Robinson because of this.

I suspect though these men could have often abuse Muslim girls as well, for how can we know since they have such barriers to speaking out?
