Elon Musk and Racism

1000 replies

raincoatwarmcoatlongcoat · 03/01/2025 20:36

Inspired by the other long running thread. I keep reading that he tweets and retweets racist comments. Can anyone link any or all of them please? I see tweets over illegal immigration, as opposed to immigration, but not racist?

So instead of opinions please can people post the actual words used or retweeted? Or anything he said in interviews, word for word?

Thanks!

Gosh, the Musk stans are out there in force tonight.

It's a shame your google seems to be broken, OP. There's lots of information right at the tips of your very own fingers.

Not stans. Paid bots and cleaners. Maybe even him himself. I wouldn’t be surprised. He’s that chronically online and genuinely appears to have no real friends or people who love him.

OneLemonDog · 04/01/2025 00:59

He has Trump in his pocket, too. Musk might well be the most dangerous man on the planet at this point.

heroinechic · 04/01/2025 01:00

His support for Tommy Robinson is quite concerning considering the amount of power and influence he has both online and in American politics, and considering that he doesn't seem to know much about Tommy or why he's even in prison.

I'm not saying that everyone that supports Tommy Robinson is racist, but all the racists/islamaphobes support him.

I, too, am wondering if I have somehow gone through the looking glass. I can't believe that I am seeing stuff posted on Mumsnet. I can't believe so many people have come out the woodwork to support this man. It frightening.

I don’t believe they are real Mumsnetters in the slightest. The world’s richest man and arch tech bro will have paid people to post online.

Think back to past big political events and remember floods of new members working 24/7 to influence real members. I first noticed it during Brexit then the last UK general election. The threads were relentless and seemed to follow a script with stock phrases.

That was the Cambridge Analytica scandal, in relation to Brexit at least.

He doesn't have to say anything racist himself.

He is powerful enough to manufacture the circumstances under which other people's prejudices can flourish.

He knows exactly what he's doing.

Completely agree. He knows exactly what he is doing. Anyone that thinks he’s in it for the greater good is delusional in my opinion...

He is using his wealth as the owner of X to destabilise our democracy, he enjoys stoking the fire as part of his agenda, not so much in the US, but the UK definitely…

I think it’s scary & sad some people actually believe he cares about victims of grooming.

TheHardestWalk · 04/01/2025 02:05

Oh my god - how facile can you get - ‘I don’t like that people have different opinions to me so they must be a bot’

I’ve been a mumsnetter for years and years and years (under different names) and I don’t agree with all Musk says but I think he’s been more a force for good than bad. He has shifted Overton’s Window.

The same way I think Tommy Robinson can both have done bad things and be a bad person and still be telling truth about the Pakistani Rape gangs. Because for many years ‘good’ people were too scared to discuss or acknowledge the extent of the depravity for fear of the consequences.

AffIt · 04/01/2025 03:51

Musk is nothing more than an angry wee fud with mummy/daddy issues who wants to see the world burn.

Take him seriously at your peril.

Turneresque · 03/01/2025 21:32

I agree. Never seen him post any racist tweets.

I sometimes feel I'm in an alternative universe. If someone openly says "only the AfD can save Germany, Tommy Robinson is a good bloke etc etc" the Truth Twisters come out in force on here now. Of course he's a racist.

Unlike Farage and co. he's an utterly scary racist (although Farage is potentially about to be anointed with a huge amount of money from Elon. Making him scary too). He has unlimited funds and a huge amount of unchecked influence on social media. X issues a massive amount of misinformation every day. He is unelected but has a scary amount of power. Look at all these people perpetrating the blatant lie , he's not racist. Of course he is. His actions are blatant racism.

I know he likes to tweet in the middle of the night after a binge. I also know he posts under various usernames on X. I suspect he’s even on here on occasion.

He’s very bored - his companies are managed by others. You can’t tell me he doesn’t have Google Alerts set up for when his name is brought up online.

Gosh Elon is really getting under people's skin huh.

But this made me laugh. Tweeting in the middle of the night. Oh my days.

Everyone that has concerns about the mass rape and torture of girls is labelled far right these days. If that is what the left has come to, then that is what will bring Farage in.

Calling people bootlickers and bendovers says much more about you than your dating profile ever will.

He’s certainly tugging something…

FeegleFrenzy · 04/01/2025 07:19

Musk went seriously down in my view with his “pedo guy” tweets about the Thai cave rescue diver. How on earth he was found not guilty of slander/libel I have no idea. I seem to recall the court said the case didn’t prove the diver had been harmed by the allegations 🤷‍♀️. There was evidence that Musk not only write the tweets he also paid someone to spread false rumours around about the diver.

It may not have been directly racist but I felt there was some indirect racism in some of his comments. Musk said the diver had married a 12yo. Now he’d married a Thai woman but she was an adult. I think Musk’s words played into the stereotype of underage Thai girls working as “prostitutes”, stereotypes about mail order brides, etc.

FeegleFrenzy · 04/01/2025 07:36

Posting racist images of Elizabeth Warren. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/elon-musk-elizabeth-warren-images-b2667408.html

he seems quite focused on “racism” against white people. When asked about diversity, equality and inclusion initiatives he said it was “another word for racism”. He had a spat with Humza Yousaf , when HY was talking about systemic racism in Scottish politics Musk accused HY of being racist against white people.

Tesla has had many racial discrimination lawsuits from employees so he’s in charge of a company which has issues. The Guardian left X citing it as a toxic, racist platform. The racism on X may not be from Musk but he seems happy for the platform to have this red neck, racist image and does nothing to sort it out. Aren’t we told it’s not just enough to not be racist, we should be anti racist?

someone tweeted that black students on average have lower IQs and shouldn’t become pilots and he retweeted it saying that United Airlines diversity and inclusion policy was putting peoples lives at risks…….ie insinuating that because they were hiring black pilots these pilots were likely too stupid to be pilots. Oh he’s clever enough to not actually say it but what else could he mean? I’m sure some people here will defend him though and say that’s not what he meant at all.

Hes mates with Trump who’s a big old racist. You lie with dogs you get fleas. They’re as bad as each other.

Alot of these 'insinuations' turn out to be in the eye of the beholder. Weren't United airlines recruiting for those with sight disabilities to be pilots at the time? Hiring pilots that can't see properly just to fill a diversity target does put people's lives at risk.

A quick google says this isn’t true. United Airlines requires all pilots to have 20/20 vision, their vision can be corrected by glasses or contacts to achieve this. They also fired a pilot who was found/became colour blind so they take this seriously.

They did have a diversity target for hiring a certain quota of women and people of colour. The CEO wanted half of the pilots in training to be female or people of colour and Musk had an issue with that. They would all still need to meet the required standards to be a pilot, there was never any talk about lowering standards.

In fairness it may have been another airlines that were wanting people with sight disabilities to be hired, I remember this happening just last year.

But I'm sure all people want to be hired on merit, not just to tick a box. I'm an ex construction worked and I'd have been mortified if I'd been hired to be included in a statistic for a report rather than being able to do the job.

FeegleFrenzy · 04/01/2025 08:04

It’s tricky isn’t it, the best person should get the job. But if the people who are getting hired 99% of the time are white men (even though the women and the ethnic minority applicants met all the criteria) at what point do you say that actually our selection process is unconsciously biased and we need to do something about it.

FeegleFrenzy · 04/01/2025 08:13

On the surface that does look crazy but it also says According to FAA, all candidates, irrespective of their disability status, are required to meet specific and varying qualifications for each position.

so no blind pilots, no deaf pilots, nobody with dwarfism who can’t reach the controls, no paralysed pilots who can’t operate the controls.

FeegleFrenzy · 04/01/2025 08:14

And the fact remains the tweet he was interacting with specifically talked about recruiting ethnic minorities and stated (incorrectly) that black people had lower IQs.

And yet it is explicit in their hiring process.

The best people should get the job.

Their DEI policy is driving their recruitment and does indeed put lives at risk. All it takes is for one manager to overlook a specific requirement and give someone a job because they will get a bonus for the hire and the whole merit thing is gone.

'There are many in Silicon valley who see disruption as an end in itself which is madness'

Indeed, because those silicone valley billionaires will be protected from the revolution/anarchy they're promoting. Any normal person wishing for such upheaval has no imagination.
