Elon Musk and Racism

1000 replies

raincoatwarmcoatlongcoat · 03/01/2025 20:36

Inspired by the other long running thread. I keep reading that he tweets and retweets racist comments. Can anyone link any or all of them please? I see tweets over illegal immigration, as opposed to immigration, but not racist?

So instead of opinions please can people post the actual words used or retweeted? Or anything he said in interviews, word for word?

Thanks!

This is literally fucking racist to say that.

you actually racist.

EffortlesslyInelegant · 03/01/2025 22:29

And you actually hard of thinking but I won't hold it against you. I would hate to be thought of as thickist Grin

Michelle12A · 03/01/2025 22:29

Why, exactly, does being a ‘rich white boy’ automatically make someone racist?

PCOSisaid · 03/01/2025 22:29

titchy · 03/01/2025 22:25

@PCOSisaid - read again. I said TR was in prison for talking shit about an immigrant, not EM.

It’s funny as I have a mixed race family.

TR is problematic, but why? I have yet to see anything in public that would make him enemy number 1 and force him in prison: give me a list of his so called crimes

MonkeyVsBunny · 03/01/2025 22:27

You need to point at evidence of him being racist.

given you think there are thousands of examples it should be pretty easy to find.

I’ll wait.

I have said exactly what he is doing.

He is creating the circumstances under which other people's prejudices can thrive, and he's poking his (ostensibly clean) nose at people like you who can't see it.

Cornettoninja · 03/01/2025 22:30

MonkeyVsBunny · 03/01/2025 22:14

Ah. You’re a “no platform” censor who does not believe in the free exchange of ideas. Sorry I can’t get behind someone who is like 16th century catholic church.

Righto. I don’t think throwing your lot unfailingly behind the guy with money is that far off a 16th century peasant worshipping his king but you do you.

You would have to have some understanding of growing up there and at that time. Many have left behind what was drilled into them. Many have not.

I suggest that until you know what you're talking about you should maybe keep schtum for fear of looking a tiny bit dumb.

Eyesopenwideawake · 03/01/2025 22:31

MonkeyVsBunny · 03/01/2025 22:22

He’s a fucking boy.

Still no reason for you to be angry with the world. You love your child; you would have loved a girl when that baby came out of your body so why not love her now?

MonkeyVsBunny · 03/01/2025 22:27

I don’t think you can jump on that defence after being so accepting of another’s prejudice. Either it is or isn’t and you’ve already laid out your stall.

Quite. It’s certainly not the way to communicate your concerns to your own child. Diplomacy goes a long way in parenting, particularly when you don’t like/understand your child’s stance.

Inyourfacebidisg · 03/01/2025 22:33

It literally says up thread that he like a racist antisemitic post and that his company has been sued by black employees due to racism.

Christ what has happened on here today!

Is Elon Musk racist I really don't know!

Sorry is this a post from 2015?

did you not notice the pushback?

the one against progressive authoritarianism?

woke is dead. DEI is dead. The pendulum is swinging back to the right with. Very great vengeance.

if you want to know why musk is killing the woke mind virus. Watch his interview about losing his son.

the worlds most awesome autistic and richest man is not the sort to back down.

Elon Musk said that he felt tricked into initially going along with his son's gender change (and surgery/hormones) at first due to not properly understanding it. I actually have a lot of sympathy for him there - I think this happened to a lot of parents/relatives/friends. I also think that people who initially supported childhood transition etc in a vague way have now started to regret this.
However, now that Elon Musk knows this is wrong... everyone else who (like Elon Musk) did not immediately see the problems are evil/deranged etc if they aren't in Elon Musks in group. And this is all the fault of the left/work mind virus. It isn't that he was initially wrong. It isn't that he is angry now. Both of those are human. It is that he has singlehandedly decided that he knows what the cause of all of this is, and it is down to him to "fight it". He is allowed to make mistakes and remain not only "good" but also infallible! Anyone he deems "the left" or in the groups opposed to him were deliberate bad actors. (Its actually a really common thing for people to be quite scornful that other people don't know something they just found out. Its connected to theory of mind and more common in the neuro-diverse).

Its an understandable reaction. Maybe a mirror image of what Helen Joyce talks about when she describes parents who can't face the truth of what they did to their own kids so have to cling to the line it was for the best. Possibly the "experimental" way he brought/is bringing up his children isn't conducive to their long term emotional stability. Possibly that's unconnected.

Also, the same autism that possibly caused his child (and a disproportionate number of other autistic kids) to single mindedly pursue their own "truth" about what's making them unhappy (gender) might also be causing him to single mindedly pursue his own "truth" about what's wrong with the "west". There is nothing wrong with being neuro-diverse but its not a super-power as the "never underestimate an autist with a... blah blah" fan posts suggest.

I don't think he's necessarily racist. I do think he is happy to push division, conspiracy theories (racist or otherwise) and make serious discourse about really important issues more difficult die to his own massive blinkers and conviction that he is always right.

Agree. I think he just doesn’t like anything he can’t buy. Like respect, love, genuine self worth… the list is endless.

rockstarshoes · 03/01/2025 22:37

Agreed!

EternalSunshine19 · 03/01/2025 22:38

MonkeyVsBunny · 03/01/2025 22:09

That’s not racist.

that’s allowing people to have opinions.

that’s what we do.

bad ideas fester in the dark.

they die in the light.

Adolf Hitler also had ideas and opinions. According to your line of thinking then supporting him wouldn't be racist either

That feels unfair. He isn't a she and he isn't a girl. It's understandable why one would feel pissed at how things are allowed to propogate on this one and how this situation has been enabled. I doubt said child will be happily skipping off through adulthood post surgery or other mutilation as OP is probably well aware of that; and still loving their child.

I, too, am wondering if I have somehow gone through the looking glass. I can't believe that I am seeing stuff posted on Mumsnet. I can't believe so many people have come out the woodwork to support this man. It frightening.

@MonkeyVsBunny for PM!

Oh @MonkeyVsBunny you're very angry, aren't you? What would it take for you to be happy with your own life? What's missing?

Are you always so patronising?

If @MonkeyVsBunny (or anyone else) wants to express anger, or any other emotion, that's fine. It's a forum after all. Difference of opinion is allowed.

He thinks his finger is the moon.

I actually think we need censure free spaces to tackle and talk about serious issues. And that includes allowing really unpleasant speech to happen so it can be challenged/countered as well as so that unpleasant truths can be faced. Twitter was never a great format for that (due to the character limit and the fact it encourages confrontation) but whatever, I can give him props for trying to facilitate free speech there and assume he is genuine.
But he has to make his kneejerk thoughts, his opinions the centre of whatever controversial issue being discussed whether he knows anything about it or not. the traditional way of blacking free speech/other voices is through outright censorship. The other, much more successful way is through drowning them out under a tirade of nonsense. (Think how companies can "hide" bad search results by making them appear on the second page of google). Effectively that is what he is doing (even if unwittingly). Its harder to have conversations about e.g. immigration, CSA etc when you have to keep stopping to correct lies (they are eating the cats; there already was a national enquiry into the grooming gangs. We need the recommendations from that to be implemented). Bad faith actors on the other side of the argument (bad faith actors exist everywhere) can just point to the very obvious lies and focus on them (see litterboxes in schools). Good faith actors on both sides leave the debate because its useless and demoralising. No positive change happens. The warriors of the internet get to feel good about themselves.
