Elon Musk and Racism

raincoatwarmcoatlongcoat · 03/01/2025 20:36

Inspired by the other long running thread. I keep reading that he tweets and retweets racist comments. Can anyone link any or all of them please? I see tweets over illegal immigration, as opposed to immigration, but not racist?

So instead of opinions please can people post the actual words used or retweeted? Or anything he said in interviews, word for word?

Thanks!

It’s not a “silly comment” at all. Can you honestly not see that it is this kind of mantra that has lead the far right to gain traction.

Yes you can go into an argument over the legitimacy of the phrase, I understand that argument - but the vast majority of people hear a soundbite and ask themselves that “silly question”. It’s like the term “ white privilege” yes there’s an academic discussion around the phrase. But to a dad living in terrible accommodation, who can’t feed his kids telling him he has white male privilege is inflammatory. It’s this kind of ideology the lack of understanding of people, often from people who have never stuck their nose out of academia, that has led to the far right gaining a foothold.

I wonder what is more inflammatory to the dad living in poverty: the 'white privilege' comments (which I agree are foolish and tone-deaf under the circumstances) or the 'austerity' policies that have helped to drive him and his family into poverty; the accusations of being a 'scrounger' and 'skiver' if he seeks any help; the policies that reduced council house availability and made much decent private accommodation unaffordable to many; the lack of employment security; etc.; etc, Seems to me that Thatcherism and its successors have done him much more harm than some trendy student uttering a soundbite.

And the left aren't responsible for the rise of the far right- except in the sense that they didn't fight them hard enough or soon enough, and spent far too much time and energy on fighting each other. The far right are responsible for the far right! Fortunately, they are also inclined to fight each other. But they also now have a very rich and powerful funder, and that is scary.

@Feelingathomenow

Many people have been saying the left is an immediate threat for a long time, it has infiltrated governments, companies and education. Yes the tide is turning, people who didn’t see the far left ideology as a problem are having issues dealing with an awakening from wokeness.

Extremist politics are all the same in their level of threat, the fact you can’t see that is worrying.

Can you explain "wokeness" in your own terms and how it is a threat?

“Wokeness” in mine (and other peoples terms) is unthinkingly following a narrative that proclaims to be morally superior - whilst the view and it’s implications is typically unsophisticated and lacks acknowledgment of the multifaceted implications of holding that view. It is typically used to try and try and deny the validity of opposing views as others group round the appropriate mantras. They are often akin to religious beliefs and followed without question.

why are they a threat?

  1. because they are too simple to fully account for the true nature of a situation
  2. they are often binary and create a system of wrong speak and wrong think
  3. they are used to divide
  4. they are often not based on any objective evidence
  5. they discourage critical thinking
  6. they often create an “enemy” ie those not toeing the line.

I think that dad is probably pissed off at everyone having a better life than him.

The left, by continually pushing certain mantras too far have created the desire for new direction - the far right

You seem to have a weird obsession with video games. I think there are prominent politicians also faking things that have been well discussed.

I think you are deliberately missing the point. You were wittering on about how video games don’t appear in the DSM5, while ignoring the point that the behaviour Musk is displaying regarding the video games does.

Most of people’s behaviour can be found in DSM5 somewhere.

R u incapable of answering a question without trying to deflect I mean this whole thread each question I ask it takes u about 3 attempt to answer and then they r super wishy wishy! Constantly asking it back at me like its a gotcha when it isn't as ive established it isn't a 'they are doing same thing in same way'!
I mentioned a specific way in which farage has manipulated his audience. There is no (insert public figure) doing the same manipulation, there's just a general it happens on both sides argument which as a debate talking point is like ur favourite! 😬 how can u debate people if they cannot acknowledge the actual questions and just defect and dismiss? I'm assuming ur going to ask me this as this is the cycle ! Honeslty exhausting 😴 it's not worth my time. So good luck to u in ur quest at minimising and just living in different reality

chicken2015 · 14/01/2025 14:12

And I guess I have the knowledge in knowing if it does go to sh*t and right wing does become a bad and dangerous thing and u were manipulated into beliving load of crap I guess u can't say u wasn't warned. I'd be fascinated to find this thread 10 years from now and see who was the more evil and dangerous side! Unfortunately I means living with the consequences and my daughters having to.

it not my fault you don’t understand answers. I have said anyone manipulating information is wrong.

what you are refusing to acknowledge, because you are so busy clinging to the concept that only the right manipulated information, that the left are so wholesome is that manipulating information happens across the political spectrum and across business.

I don’t think that is “wishy washy”

The left are just as capable of spreading harmful lies as the right. You just don’t see it because you clearly live in an echo chamber where those lies are treated as fact. You need to stop worshipping the left and realise they’re just as corrupt as the right

You really don’t like me do you? I’m surprised if you have two daughters you buy into the misogyny on the left, let’s see where their “men first” has taken women in 10 years time.

The main issue I have that u haven't acknowledged is that we have concrete proof of farage's manipulation. We do not have absolute proof of anyone else. Yes of course politicians lie! I don't actually belive any of them to care about the general public! I'm not a labour supporter I've only ever voted for them once this year! I just belive as I've seen proof of farages lies I want to know how u don't know he isn't lying now. How do u know he hasn't stopped the manipulation, that he spreads misinformation and disinformation? Musk has been spreding misinformation on x! There is countless examples i can show u, this can also be asked of me too with anything that not 'right and I will answer I have no idea! But I'm definitely not comfortable siding with someone who have actually got concrete evidence who has manipulated me.

justteanbiscuits · 14/01/2025 17:31

So, as I believe everyone is equal, and that as a country we should do what we can to support everyone I am woke. And as someone who is woke I am simple, don't use objective evidence and I discourage critical thinking 🙄🙄🙄

I have seen a lot of objective evidence in this thread being completely and utterly ignored by those that don't want to hear it. Do I think some people are terrible people - such as Musk? Yes, I do, and my opinion is based on objective evidence.

So you’re clearly a tech person. How do you feel about AI and Starmer throwing caution to the wind about its threats

There is NO AI that is sentient. There is no AI that is a threat to life and limb. All there is, in reality, in machine learning which is not able to go outside the parameters it has been taught. There are huge benefits for it's use in Public sector that will save time and money for humans to do what humans need to do.

I’m sure they are still doing that, I’m sure that Russia is still manipulating forums, I’m sure that politicians and companies are all manipulators. It’s not a surprise. Those who are in power and seek power have been manipulating since the dawn of time - it’s not a surprise. All people can do is try and verify through independent research.

This is why I’m particularly horrified at the gung-ho attitude around the announcement re AI yesterday. AI is the most easily used mechanism to manipulate people because it enables people to control knowledge if people aren’t fastidious about how they research.

i don’t like any of these people, but the Lefts habit of vilifying the right, with no acceptance of some of the terrible and harmful ideologies of their own is just asking for trouble. They come out with crap like someone upthread suggested that white working class blokes should form an organisation to put forward their grievances in a calm and constructive manner (or words to that effect) - there’s such disconnect with the very people they are supposed to represent, the left have zero idea about the average person. It creates voids in the political landscape someone will always exploit. Today Farage is 1 point behind Labour in some polls. It’s because of the arrogance and complacency in the Left that means they have not been listening to their key voters about the issues that they perceive affect them. They just shout them down as “ thick racists”! They are losing the opportunity to address these people’s problems in a fair and measured way. This is why the Far Right are gaining momentum, the Left are driving away these people in droves, the Right are only too happy to lend and ear.

I am FAR from naive about AI. Bad people will find a way to do bad things. It's people that can be bad, not AI.

None of that explains ur ignorance to the right manipulation, if all politicians are manipulating and it's on 'both sides' which u love so much, why do u belive farage? Why do u think he will help u personally? Or anyone? If its all for power and greed, why would the right be the party for u? I can acknowledge that the 'left' isn't going to be all ideals and sunshine and rainbows and be in politics because of the goodness of their heart . Why is farage and anyone on the right any good?
And u have no idea if the rise of right wing and farage popularity is just because people want change it literally could be because his party are known for manipulating their followers and they are just spreading fear tactics on the left . And feed them disinformation about what they can or will do to get them to follow them and it's just implified due to social media and spread of Information.
