Elon Musk and Racism

1000 replies

raincoatwarmcoatlongcoat · 03/01/2025 20:36

Inspired by the other long running thread. I keep reading that he tweets and retweets racist comments. Can anyone link any or all of them please? I see tweets over illegal immigration, as opposed to immigration, but not racist?

So instead of opinions please can people post the actual words used or retweeted? Or anything he said in interviews, word for word?

Thanks!

So basically nearly every successful business person and politician

I don’t think they all go so far as to fake being the best video game player in the world, but certain traits are indeed advantageous in business.

This has been well discussed.

Serpentstooth · 14/01/2025 09:59

Elon Musk is a racist, a liar and a purveyor of misinformation, as is Donald Trump who is also a criminal who should be in prison. Those of you who are happy to align yourselves with such people and to share and support their criminal agenda should reflect on the outcome they are working towards. It will not be to our benefit.

@JessaWoo

"I realise you wish to see the world as binary right-left, but in fact, I am a centrist."

For what it's worth I don't wish to see the world as binary right left but sadly I recognise that it is rapidly becoming that way and unfortunately centrist opinions are becoming rarer and rarer.

Social media has had the effect of people living in echo chambers which simply polarises views even more. So much so that for anyone left in the centre then the right will accuse them of being left wing and the left will accuse them of being right wing

You seem to have a weird obsession with video games. I think there are prominent politicians also faking things that have been well discussed.

Any mention about cambridge analytica and its literally crickets! The start of misinformation and disinformation being pushed in a Systemic way to influence a population! And continues still to this day. Misinformation and disinformation of any party is a immediate threat to democracy and the right welcomed it and took part , what does that tell u about the right!

I don’t think anyone here is aligning themselves- they are merely pointing out that far left politics has infiltrated society for quite some time and far right politics has gained ground as a response,

So you’re clearly a tech person. How do you feel about AI and Starmer throwing caution to the wind about its threats

Whataboutism.... again back to question how do u feel that cambridge analytica was used by farage and trump to push misinformation and disinformation for brexit and trump campaign in Systemic way to influence and how do u know that what information u see now is not misinformation or disinformation. And I'm not a tech person I'm just a genuinely concerned regular person. Who seen the treat of CA . And now here we are.

I wish you defended victims of racism as strenuously as you defend the wannabe megalomaniac Musk!

It’s not whataboutery at all. Technology is being used to push disinformation all the time, you are focusing on one incident.

Now if you had taken my advice and read Animal Farm you would know all about the sheep and the Barn wall. You would then get the relevancy of my comments about AI to your comments in Cambridge Analytica

So no real answer then which I expected!

U don't need to tell me to read a fictional book to get an answer! U could just literally write it here in a reply! This one incident (its ridiculous to suggest its one incident/example like all parties do this! Because they dont! They do not hire a tech company to bombard voters using illegally havested data from fb to push agendas to win a vote!!) is the Catalyst to where we have now! U can dismiss it all ur like but it's pretty major for a political party to purposefully send population misinformation and disinformation to influence them to vote on something specific. How do u know they have stopped doing it. How do u know all the information u have is not just an agenda being pushed. And yes u can ask me the same question which would then deflect more but as I'm not allied to one party, and I understand bias in all media , I am also aware of conformation bias which is also a problem in society now! Why are u unable to answer about specifically cambridge analytica conduct? Is it because it shows farage directly pushing misinformation and disinformation and u don't like it and cannot justify it so u dismiss and minimise

Maybe I think it will significantly help you to read those books.

It is wrong to use misinformation- all sides of the political spectrum use it. Russia uses it to infiltrate the west so does China.

concentrating on one example, although it fits your narrative doesn’t give the full picture.

we need to be equipping people with skills to understand when they are being misled.

Read the book, it will really help you round this argument

Reetpetitenot · 14/01/2025 10:49

'Musk is an opportunist and a business man, up until recently he was a Democrat supporter. Why did he switch? Because he saw early on the direction of travel was changing and therefore jumped on it.
Musk is just another indicator or symptom of the growing support for the right in the UK and Europe - he's not the cause.'

I actually do agree with this. Musk doesn't really care one way or the other about the things he tweets about, he just jumps on the current popular bandwagon. It's about money and power only. The problem is obviously him owning one of the largest SM platforms in the world, and being able to disseminate information to his advantage.

Again ur incapable of answering the question, so its wrong but others use it. Is that ur argument as to why its ok?
Well actually as i explained actually no , no other party illegally havested data and used it with a tech company to spread untruths to influence a vote.

Its not fitting my narrative at all it's about asking someone who obviously supports farage why they find it acceptable for them to knowingly and activity spreading misinformation and disinformation. By illegally harvesting data. And how do u know it isn't still happening? Why can u not answer this question. If u thibk all parties spread untruths what untruths are the right spreading currently?

Your can't equippt peope with skills by deflecting from a massive scandal and problem that caused Catalyst for misinformation and disinformation in our Internet that effect out daily lives! That's not equipping them with anything that cherry picking what u want to equipt them with!!

"I don’t think anyone here is aligning themselves- they are merely pointing out that far left politics has infiltrated society for quite some time and far right politics has gained ground as a response"

I think this is a fair summary and I would add that the move away from centrist politics to far right/ left has been in part exacerbated by social media and echo chambers.

The right wing gaining political ground is also a relatively recent phenomenon (last two years say) and I think this has come somewhat as a shock to those on the left especially after so recent a Labour victory.

Where have I said it’s ok? I’ve merely pointed out it’s been used across the board. Where people interact with technology their data is often harvested. Maybe people need to learn how to interact with technology.

Cambridge analytica illegally got there data by inviting people to a silly quiz (like which pet would u be etc) and it take ur data and from your friendss list. They had no right to that. Yes data literacy needs to be taught but political parties also need to not practice in manipulative and illegal ways! What does it say about the values of farage ? And why does he need to manipulate voters? Have u been manipulated are u still being manipulated ?
I keep hearing u say ur implying it's being used all the same on both sides I keep having to remind u that isn't the case!

Feelingathomenow · 14/01/2025 11:30

I completely agree with the effect of social media echo chambers. The fact people can’t see the infiltration of far left ideologies into the mainstream is a major stumbling block for them to understand the current position. They mistakenly think quite extreme political ideologies are centre because they are the norm in their particular echo chamber.

its done with consumers all the time. It’s not right but it’s extremely common
