Elon Musk and Racism

1000 replies

raincoatwarmcoatlongcoat · 03/01/2025 20:36

Inspired by the other long running thread. I keep reading that he tweets and retweets racist comments. Can anyone link any or all of them please? I see tweets over illegal immigration, as opposed to immigration, but not racist?

So instead of opinions please can people post the actual words used or retweeted? Or anything he said in interviews, word for word?

Thanks!

That's naive.

PandoraSox · 10/01/2025 09:47

There are plenty of genuinely right-wing posters on MN. I have no problem with that and happy to debate with them

The right wing bots/trolls are another matter. They are often easy to spot for a number of reasons and I wish MNHQ would do something about them. I reckon some are organised, others are just nasty inadequate men, typing from mummy's (or mommy's) basement.

There's always been men on here. Men always flock to where women are to wind them up.

Well, yes, of course. But the tone of recent posts is noticeable. Encouraging disruption, admiring Musk, Trump and Farage for being frat boys 'disruptors' - anyone with half a brain cell can see that 'disruption' for these posters is more along the riot/anarchy pathway, and you'd have to be foolish and very unimaginative to not see the dangers therein.

GinAndJuice99 · 10/01/2025 09:50

Why are people on Mumsnet so obsessed with Elon Musk? It's so weird. Nobody I know in the real world ever talks about him.

MN can't even pay for admin during the UK nighttime. You think they will sort out any actual bots?

I report nobody unless it is spam. If you have concerns about bots then make a post on the Site Stuff board about what to do when you suspect one.

That says more about the people you know than anyone else, particularly this last week.

I am happy for disruptors, I think it shakes things up. You really do have to start accepting that people have other opinions to you.

They do zap some bots/trolls eventually, to be fair. It can take too long, though. One PBP recently managed to get to thread 3 before MNHQ finally zapped it.

@1dayatatime

What is interesting is that globally there is a political shift to the right (France, Germany, Italy,US).

This is even evident on MN and seems to have taken those on the left somewhat by surprise or in denial hence their only explanation for why this is happening is because of "bots" rather than face up to the changing political landscape.

Yes, in good part it is bots. The political landscape is changing globally due to bots harnessed by Russia, China, North Korea, Facebook, and Musk. Now consider Musk's actions of the last week or so in the light of that.

chicken2015 · 10/01/2025 10:01

It absolutely makes sense for right wing money to be put into forums to be pro musk, Tommy Robinson and farage, it's not mumsnet money it's right wing money. Cambridge analytica is prime example of how right wing money infiltrated uk people with brexit and we know what happened there! Then they worked with trump in 2016 and we know what happened there! Do I think everyone on here praising musk or farage is a bot no but definitely think some could be. And it's only going to get worse. I personally belive the 'right wing' is becoming more and more far right and it's becoming a real problem , with musk paying for american goverment and now trying to pay for other countires goverment! And some people beliving it's absolutely normal and OK and just seeming to love it! That's worrying , just because u r richest man in world that doesn't mean u have any right to an apinion on goverments or should be involved , buying ur way in american govermenrt shouldn't then mean u have right to say anything about other governments

I'm not so happy about 'disruptors' that own massive social media networks and push their own posts to the top of the feed to force every user to read them, even if they're misinformation. (And additionally, send out threats and insults via the same network.) This is more megalomania than disruption.

So he isn't a disruptor then. If you don't like Musk then don't use X or buy a Tesla.

And don't vote for him if he runs for president.

I'd rather know who is saying what than the behind the scenes hands pulling the strings which is the real issue going on in the world. Musk can't keep his gob shut, so it makes him easy to read. He is a false flag IMHO.

But it's not as simple as just not voting or buying his businesses, he brought the US election giving trump $250 million. He's already said he will give farage £1 million for his campaign that's not playing in fair and democratic process that's buying ur way into power. Hes Threatening uk goverment. U say u don't like 'the behind the senses pulling of strings.' Just because someone is openingly telling u they r pulling strings doesn't make them any less dangerous.

"What makes it so obvious that they are bots is that instead of posting one message, they keep on arguing. No one would care enough to do that otherwise, only Elon himself"

Not everyone with similar views will be a bot, some of them are, there has been online interference in elections, Brexit etc. If you look at the messages on threads like this, there is a pattern.

Politically, there is greater division now, and it's been exacerbated by this. If you want to see the shift, think about Conservative leaders/prime ministers from the past and then think about the recent ones and also Reform. I used to feel that although I may not agree with their politics, they also wanted the best for the country and were just going about it in a different way. I don't feel like that now, which is a shame as I think both sides do need to work together.

From the above article "In the past decade, there have been documented attempts by hostile foreign powers, such as Russia, to sow division and promote particular points of view during Western elections. They have used networks of what social media firms call "inauthentic accounts" and what users call bots or "troll farms". Whether the actions of these accounts changed anyone’s mind is unclear."

Are fake pro-Reform UK social accounts influencing the election?

The BBC traces people behind social media profiles posting hundreds of repetitive messages backing Reform UK.

I'd rather a disruptive response to the slow drip feed of infiltration that's been going on for decades. People are pissed off and for good reason. Labour could of course do what's right and try to sort out the country but they are hell bent on implementing policies that put UK citizens at risk, then they need to expect pushback.

What should they be doing "to try to sort out the country"? Would you care to offer some specifics?

But what does the 'disruption' look like to you?

Where were you when the Tory government was running the country into the ground? When Liz Truss wiped billions from the economy in one day (having been warned what would happen if she continued with her budget). Why are Labour expected to turn round over a decade of under investment, money wasting (see Covid), in 6 months? Why were people not shouting from the rooftops when the Tories failed to implement recommendations from the Jay report?

Why are these things a Labour failure, and not the failure of the Tory government they occurred under? Why aren't posters on these threads questioning why Musk didn't take the Tories to task?

noblegiraffe · 10/01/2025 11:41

Why wasn't Musk outraged about child abuse and cover-ups when it was a couple of weeks ago and it was the Archbishop of Canterbury in the firing line?

Maybe because the Church of England did accept it the gravity of the issue and Justin Welby resigned

All of those questions are now irrelevant- the past cannot be changed the only relevant question is what are Labour doing now.

He's only just left and it's been a couple of months. Plenty of time to stir on twitter? What about the Archbishop of York?

I'm pretty sure you know why Musk is picking on the grooming gangs and it's because it's a means to get at Starmer who he has had beef with since last summer. He has also brought up Jimmy Savile. Why do you think that is?
