Elon Musk and Racism

1000 replies

raincoatwarmcoatlongcoat · 03/01/2025 20:36

Inspired by the other long running thread. I keep reading that he tweets and retweets racist comments. Can anyone link any or all of them please? I see tweets over illegal immigration, as opposed to immigration, but not racist?

So instead of opinions please can people post the actual words used or retweeted? Or anything he said in interviews, word for word?

Thanks!

NO ONE is saying that those concerned are right wing.

What we are saying is that the language used by too many people IS racist.

MonkeyVsBunny · 09/01/2025 17:52

PeppyGreenFinch · 09/01/2025 16:22

How has he changed the world?

The world is still fucked. Climate change continues, space exploration is for the rich.

Tesla is still exploiting Africa of its resources to make Teslas. African children are forced into child labour to mine for cobalt, causing death and maiming.

He isn’t a force for good.

Edited

And you - are badly misinformed.

yellowspanner · 09/01/2025 17:53

He's not racist . He has heightened the conversation about these south Asian rapists. It needed doing and I'm glad he's doing it

PeppyGreenFinch · 09/01/2025 17:53

MonkeyVsBunny · 09/01/2025 17:52

So African children aren’t mining cobalt for Tesla cars?

Children leaving their home or, very commonly, leaving their foster homes/carehomes to meet the men and no-one being willing/feeling able to stop them was a huge issue. This is from the outline of the children and safeguarding bill that is going through parliament at the moment:
"The bill would make a series of changes related to accommodation for looked after children (those in the care of the local authority), including:.... providing a statutory framework under which children could be deprived of their liberty in settings other than just a secure children’s home"
See here: Children's Wellbeing and Schools Bill 2024-25 - House of Commons Library

And here for the full bill Children's Wellbeing and Schools Bill

This is the bill that Badenoch (apparently influenced by the Twitter storm) wanted to delay by adding an amendment to about yet another inquiry. By voting against the amendment (which would delay the bill) MPs have opened themselves up to the charge of "voting against an inquiry". But if you are that bothered, passing this bill as soon as possible (push for another inquiry in a different way if you must) should surely be the priority?

The Inquiry we already had also recommended more sanctions against those who see abuse/safeguarding concerns and refuse to report it/act. This would, if acted on, make it easier to punish police officers in the future who acted like the ones in your story and incentivize future police to act differently. But nope. Lets disregard it.

"I am very angry about this. That is why I am furious the government is trying to push through legal changes to make it harder for the same thing to happen in the future."

Well, I have not read the whole bill, but I can tell you that the right to deprive a child of their liberty is really not the answer the problem. Think about problems such inadequate care giving, inadequate professional input. The mind boggles at the potential for abuse and psychological damage.

There are other answers. But this really isn't the answer.

In some cases it is. Not as a standard. But if my 13 year old was leaving the house at 2 in the night to meet her "boyfriend" who was waiting in his car at the top if my drive I absolutely would stop her. If a 13 year old in care is trying to leave then carers were sometimes told they had no right to stop them. Or they would maybe try but they can't get in a physical fight. These were vulnerable teenagers that were desperate to meet their abusers either because they craved love/affection or because they were scared of what would happen if they didn't meet them. Being able to stop them is really important. These are children, not adults. Children need to be deprived of their liberty for their own protection.
Some care givers are abusive. But the answer to that is not "Kids can come and go as they please, because then if they are abused they can just go out."

biscuitandcake · 09/01/2025 18:08

@raincoatwarmcoatlongcoat Did you read the Jay report or some of the other reports by the way? Because this absolutely was covered!!! The children weren't tiny little things being abducted from their homes against their will. That does not mean (as was implied at the time) that they weren't 100% victims just as much as if they were being dragged out of their houses by the men (and they were very often imprisoned by the men once they had them). They left the houses "of their own accord" because they were being controlled. This is where the misinformation/skewed narrative on Twitter is causing the most problems - its undermining people's understanding of what happened and then you right back to square one where abuse of "street wise" children is ignored because they don't fit the "innocent little children"** stereotype.

**In quote because obviously all 13 year olds are innocent children.

I don't think any of the things you have listed are woke, and I don't think they are generally considered to be woke - woke is where very certain very specific issues are predominant, not well researched or in accordance with good research and are given a predominance to the almost total exclusion of other issues, other groups of people, other communities.

Woke, the African-American English synonym for the General American English word awake, has since the 1930s or earlier been used to refer to awareness of social and political issues affecting African Americans, often in the construction stay woke.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woke#:~:text=Woke%2C%20the%20African%2DAmerican%20English,in%20the%20construction%20stay%20woke.

aware of and actively attentive to important societal facts and issues (especially issues of racial and social justice)

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/woke

Originally the term referred to a need to wake up to, and stay ‘woke’ to, the realities of Black people’s place in America and the system designed to keep them down. With the term becoming more mainstream recently it evolved to mean a more general sense of awareness to social injustice against all groups, although it remains closely associated with the Black Lives Matter movement.

To opponents of the social aims of such movements, however, it has become a catch-all term for a certain type of socially liberal ideology they dislike – much as the term ‘political correctness’ can often be.

Have capitalists and media moguls passed you by until this point?

No. I am quite capable of having thoughts and opinions about multiple things, like most people.

In case it escaped you, this thread is about the one capitalist, Musk, hence the comment. I was unaware that it was expected that I list everything else I object to in order to do so.

But near the top of the list would be the people who can do no better than resort to 'whataboutery' in a discussion.

I absolutely agree that 13 year olds should be stopped - but 13 year olds behaving like this is to do with how they have been looked after up to this point - it doesn't happen in a vacuum. There are a lot of other changes which should be made in relation to social care and education and even training of parents, and laws around the sort of things which have led up to 13 year olds behaving like this. A simple law to do with detaining is as i said, likely to have horrific consequences. More joined up thinking is needed. And a total overhaul of social care and education and a lot more funding.

What has been proposed around making stronger laws around trafficking and prostitution and stopping it?

All of this is symptoms of chronic longstanding mismanaged problems. Solutions are possible for all of it.

That doesn't reflect what is happening now though.

I agree that woke meant something different in the past.

You told me i should be ashamed for not liking the assumption that it is far right wing men who are concerned with the rape and cover ups involved in the current discussions.

I have no idea why I need to be ashamed. I worked with one girl who was escaping every night to be picked up by men and raped and not only did the police do nothing, they told her mum it was easier to just let her go rather than try and stop her. Also the town that she was being raped in isn't even in the list of 50 known towns. This problem is so much bigger than anyone actually knows.

Having these concerns does not make me far right. Hence being seething with rage that this assumption is always made.

So I have no idea why you think I should be ashamed. I feel no shame at trying to help one girl amongst what could be hundreds of thousands.

Can u please tell me where I said u should be ashamed ? I have no idea where u think ive said it! I said I disliked the argument to say people assume u must be far right to be upset about mass rape like , regular people do not think mass rape is a bad thing when, they obviously do! As u got to be pretty terrible person to not be outraged at rape going on anywhere! Doesn't matter ur political party! So what u said was meaningless and its just a way of right to divide and bring people to their 'side'

The fact that his character defects may be common to other people is irrelevant. To say it again, the thread is about Musk. I expressed some of the reasons why I dislike Musk. It does not mean I don't dislike other people for the same reasons. Are we only allowed to express completely unique reasons why we don't like Musk in your world?

What are the completely unique qualities, that no-one else on the planet displays, that you like about Musk?

This thread has been infiltrated by elons bootlickers and Tommy Robinson’s bendovers. Mumsnet do better.

What makes it so obvious that they are bots is that instead of posting one message, they keep on arguing. No one would care enough to do that otherwise, only Elon himself

"What makes it so obvious that they are bots is that instead of posting one message, they keep on arguing. No one would care enough to do that otherwise, only Elon himself"

What is interesting is that globally there is a political shift to the right (France, Germany, Italy,US).

This is even evident on MN and seems to have taken those on the left somewhat by surprise or in denial hence their only explanation for why this is happening is because of "bots" rather than face up to the changing political landscape.

TheHateIsNotGood · 09/01/2025 23:48

I think claiming 'bots' is a very weak explanation.

There is a political shift to the right because of ineptitude, and the lack of any coherent policy that benefits the country when a so called left wing government is in power.

Take Labour. Who spent years railing against certain policies when the Tories were in, and then turned on a sixpence and implemented the same policies they were railing against just months earlier.

And along with it, jailing people for words and letting actual criminals out onto the streets.

Starmer isn't a leader, he sounds like he is in a middle management meeting and trying to get a snack club started and he wants to be the one in charge of where to get the biscuits from.

Yes, and appear to have joined to either start or post on these threads trashing the government, trashing the UK, lauding disruption, etc etc. I wish MN would clamp down on the bad actor agitator types. Free speech is one thing but deliberately posting on threads to stir up divisiveness is dangerous.

Do you think the far right agitators sit tapping their fingers waiting for women to post on Mumsnet to issue a Far Right Bat Signal?

People are divided on issues, that's the cut and thrust of human existence. What you are wanting is the people you don't agree with to pipe down. Rather than giving a robust argument as to why they are wrong.

noblegiraffe · 10/01/2025 09:21

Yup.

'What you are wanting is the people you don't agree with to pipe down. Rather than giving a robust argument as to why they are wrong.'

No, It's the abusive, usually male agitators with their 'fluffy little left wing women' comments and tbh, obnoxious, overblown claims rather than robust, cogent arguments that I find disturbing. All of a sudden there are lots of them about.

AlisonDonut · 10/01/2025 09:40

There's always been men on here. Men always flock to where women are to wind them up.
