Anyone else dreading going back to work

I have been off since 20 Dec. Loved spending time at home, walking up late.
I dread going back to work. The meetings, thd deadlines and travelling. Also, the school run.

Atleast it's only 2 days before the weekend.

@Elsbetka I need this too as I need to sleep but likely won't!!

Ladybyrd · 01/01/2025 17:06

If you're dreading it, maybe 2025 should be the year you do something about that?

purplecorkheart · 01/01/2025 17:18

I am torn between dreading it and looking forward to it. It is going to be three months of massive upheaval and there are loads of things I am going to have to deal with, with little or no support.

Equally, had a horrible Christmas and am looking forward to getting away from everything and work allows me do that.

Yes I am.

I like the job and 95% of the people I work with but absolutely cannot stand the person I share an office with.

They literally set my teeth on edge for 7 hours a day. 😬

Eeek that's stressful. I share an office with one other person, I think she's fab, so I hope you are not her 😅

deathofadiscodancer888 · 01/01/2025 17:54

@Lobstercrisps haha! I highly doubt it..she doesn't like me either!

Personality wise we just clash horribly. I have taken to just ignoring her as much as I can and wearing my headphones!

stepmad · 01/01/2025 17:55

Yes but it's only two days I could has been off but intend to use those days in Febuary instead

Ah I hope you have a lot of podcasts saved up for the new week ahead 😄

deathofadiscodancer888 · 01/01/2025 18:04

@Lobstercrisps I do, thank you 😊

It's a shame as up until just over a year ago, I shred the office with someone I got on famously with. We used to have a real laugh.

Then there was a reshuffle and they were moved elsewhere 😢.

It's crap for both of us, she's not happy either but we're stuck with each other for now.

PositivityVibes · 01/01/2025 19:13

I've already booked in 3/4 of my annual leave for 2025 Grin

I really don't want to go back, I've been in a few days over Christmas but it's been lovely not having to leave and come home in the dark. I have booked in a WFH day once a week until Feb so I'll see how that goes down.

Just telling myself it's never as bad as I think it will be...

SwirlyShirly · 02/01/2025 01:17

I have literally been eying up my staircase this evening wondering if a little accident might be worthwhile. It's very tempting.

JennyTals · 02/01/2025 01:26

I wonder what percentage of jobs are just pointless
people just doing them to make ends meet
why haven’t we advanced more than this ? Should have got it down to a 4 day week at least

It's not that bad, nothing is that bad, take some time off with stress and job hunt if you need to but please don't harm yourself

If jobs were pointless they'd have been cut off in a streamlining misson.
All jobs are important or they just wouldn't exist.

If millions are struggling needing top up payments on 5 day weeks, how on earth are they going to manage on 4 day weeks?

BeachHutsAndDeckchairs · 02/01/2025 01:50

I've been off since the 20th December and will be going back on the 7th January. The idea of being back at work doesn't bother me at all and I'm certainly looking forward to getting paid again. I am, however, dreading having to get up early and actually drive there; having to be awake and alert and functional at 7 o'clock; not being able to go back to bed until night time. I hate being tired.

No33 · 02/01/2025 01:58

Been off since the 20th and back on the 7th. Not dreading it as such, I would just rather loll around all the time with no work worries!

fivebyfivebuffy · 02/01/2025 02:08

Yep. Was only off two days over Christmas and spent the past week in pain so don't feel like I've had a proper break
Up in 5hrs and can't sleep as in pain Angry

Not in the public sector…

toastandtwo · 02/01/2025 04:25

Anyway like many I’m not so much dreading going back to work as back to routine. I really like my job but I don’t like how emotionally exhausted it makes me.

Just feels like we’ve gone backwards as a society to me
more people working many many more hours, more with no job or home security more zero hours

Needanewname42 · 02/01/2025 10:40

Society has gone backwards to an extent with the loss of loads of big factories and steelworks.

So there's a gulf between people in insecure MW jobs and those in secure employment, but many in secure employment couldn't make ends meet in 4 days and we can't all rely on government top ups.

But some jobs need 5 days. Take school teachers how would it work for them to be 4days? Do kids just get a day less education?
