Anyone else dreading going back to work

I have been off since 20 Dec. Loved spending time at home, walking up late.
I dread going back to work. The meetings, thd deadlines and travelling. Also, the school run.

Atleast it's only 2 days before the weekend.

It's fine. I wouldn't work in a job I dreaded. Been there, done that.

LoopyLoopyLoo · 01/01/2025 09:41

Am dreading it. Was off sick either this awful cold virus thsts going around for 2 days upto Xmas. Did a 12hr shift 27th and been off since. Am in at 4am for the next 3days , all 12 hr shifts.
Am job hunting as I've fallen out of love with my job. I was living for the Xmas break and the thought of going back is so depressing.

I always find the days after new year really difficult, so this year decided to work on the days in between Christmas and new year and take my time off now. I'm off until Wednesday next week, and going away for a few nights this weekend as kids have an inset day on Monday.

Still feeling a bit gloomy now Christmas is over, but not as bad as usual.

I work in retail so working as usual, plus its very busy just now.
Sometimes i envy people getting a 2 week break, other times its good to keep up the routine at a time routine goes out the window.

Same, and actually I'd rather have holiday when the weather is better. We only get minimum and it includes bank holidays.

Starseeking · 01/01/2025 09:50

I finished before Christmas on the 20th, and don't go back in until 6 January. Resigned from my job the week before Christmas, so feeling quite excited about what's in store for me in 2025.

CoffeeCakeAndALattePlease · 01/01/2025 09:51

I only took the bank hols off and I’m quite looking forward to getting back into routine.

My diary for January is looking really busy already but I’m thinking it means time will fly.

measureofmydreams · 01/01/2025 09:53

I'm dreading not just the return but the year ahead. Company was taken over in the Autumn, we're losing our culture and senior leaders just aren't invested in the business any longer. The next year will be full of uncertainty. I'm at the latter stage of my career so holding out for a payoff.

brightlyshone · 01/01/2025 09:53

I am dreading it. I only went back after year’s maternity leave in September and I just haven’t got into the swing of it at all. I feel flustered and out of sync as I’m part time. I was counting down to when we broke up as a sort of ‘just get through’ and now I’m faced with returning on the 6th, I feel really panicked and overwhelmed.

I am not sure how to cope - count down until February half term I guess, but even though it’s only six weeks it feels like a lifetime!

RaginaPhalange · 01/01/2025 09:56

I've been off since the 19th Dec and back on the 7th while I realise I got more time off than others I still dread going back, it's been nice to chill at home with the kids rather than be all go every day

XxSideshowAuntSallyx · 01/01/2025 09:58

I think it's also the fact that it's a long time until Easter, it's really late this year.

One of the reasons I go into work between Christmas and New Year is to have days available for a holiday in February, as it is a long time in any year between Christmas and Easter.

I'd recommend it if it is an option.

grapefruitnights · 01/01/2025 10:06

I was back Monday after having last week off. Didn't finish until 7 last night and after today rest of week will be busy, so feels an odd new year.

I quite like january though, and am decorating a cake to take when I meet one of my best friends new baby later today, so quite a nice New Year's Day!

Chicheguevara · 01/01/2025 10:07

I went back at 8am on the 27th, then Monday and Tuesday this week and realised that this job is not for me any more. I am dealing with rude, entitled people who think that insurance claims handlers are some sort of idiotic skivvy that they can verbally beat. Maybe it’s the time of year, but something just clicked in my brain.
Back tomorrow and dreading it but determined to wring every moment of enjoyment out of today.

greengreyblue · 01/01/2025 10:09

Mixed feelings. Always enjoy time off and slow starts to the morning but find the Crimbo limbo weird and quite like a bit of structure back.

Last year I went on holiday in February and it was great, it broke up the gloom. This holiday year i used up a week in October when I usually only take a day or two but I had loads to do around my birthday. Will use the remainder of my days to have a long weekend in February I think.

nobodysdaughter · 01/01/2025 10:15

I've been off for four months with an illness, so going back next week seems daunting. However I know someone is eyeing up my place in the business, so my competitive nature is eager to get back in there and nip it in the bud.

RabbitsRock · 01/01/2025 10:22

I last worked on Christmas Eve & go back tomorrow - not dreading it but I always take a little while to relax so that before I know it, the holiday has gone & I wish I had more time off. I don’t work Fridays so easing in gently!

IceStationZebra · 01/01/2025 10:23

I like my job and I like the routine. Have been off since the 20th and back on 3rd but have been occasionally looking in at emails etc, my workplace is very busy over Xmas and new year so there is always plenty going on. School is back on the 6th so hopefully this coming weekend will be chilled.

I hate all this nonsense about diets etc and dreading going to work. Just relax and enjoy the good bits of life.

Lobstercrisps · 01/01/2025 10:26

Dreading it. Back Monday and straight into year 11 mock exams. And I'm an exams officer.. Need a new job.

mollymazda · 01/01/2025 10:27

im back 2nd... but then ive only been off 29th, 30th, 31st and 1st...

PurpleFlower1983 · 01/01/2025 10:28

Absolutely dreading it. Monday will be the worst day of the year. I’m praying for snow 🤣

Enko · 01/01/2025 10:29

Me. Back tomorrow and off on Monday for dd2s birthday so only back 2 days before a long weekend.

I started a new job in November and there has been a poor handover and a sparce amount of training so last month has been complex. I'm due a new boss too in Kanuary so I hope that will change things.. oddly despite all this I think I will end up liking my job. We will see I guess.

Mrscharlieeeee · 01/01/2025 10:31

I worked Monday and yesterday so I don't have the dread today. I enjoy being off over Christmas and NY but sometimes I do find myself getting anxious as the first day back approaches. It was pretty quiet yesterday too so I'm caught up on emails and things.

Nothatgingerpirate · 01/01/2025 10:43

Off you go, you can't all just stay at home.
😉

Tuftykitten · 01/01/2025 10:43

Not looking forward to it at all.
Once I'm back, it's non-stop, no time to think even for just a quick minute - and I'm never done either.

I would like to change careers.
I don't like my job at all and while it's quite well paid, it's not worth the money.
