Anyone else dreading going back to work

I have been off since 20 Dec. Loved spending time at home, walking up late.
I dread going back to work. The meetings, thd deadlines and travelling. Also, the school run.

Atleast it's only 2 days before the weekend.

I'm feeling a bit of trepidation about it. I have a high pressure job and a very critical negotiation beginning in the middle of January which will take a couple of months. It will be high pressure and difficult and I will be responsible for communicating the outcomes to a critical and sometimes aggressive audience.

At the same time my 95 year old Dad is in hospital in what will be a terminal event - which is likely to take weeks not days. So it's going to be a personally difficult time. Nothing I can do about that. I'm just taking it really easy before going back to work in between the hospital visits.

Me.. I've considered not going back (half joking.)

I've honestly spent a lot of the holidays considering whether there is any way I can not go back or look at reducing hours to make it more tolerable .

I was thinking today how much I’ve enjoyed my time off - and I love my job! I don’t wanna go back <stamps feet>.

Im lucky that I WFH but if even then I have a colleague who I want to throttle half the time - she’s a far left leaning Starmer sycophant who is the most obnoxious argumentative arsehole I’ve ever met. Posing with her “Fuck the Tories” mug (yes I dislike the Tories too but when people make it their whole personality it makes me want to join the bloody party in retaliation) on Teams saying “Look at my mug everyone! Hahahahhaahja isn’t it brilliant, it says fuck the Tories hahahahaha”. She always interrupts, usually me, to give her opinion or tell a boring anecdote. And she must say at least once a day “This is why I didn’t become an MP in the end!”. She doesn’t even work in politics she works in event organisation 🤣 anyway, the thought of having to tolerate her on Teams is making feel quite depressed, and I’ve decided only 1:1 I’ll be raising these issues with our joint manager. If I had to work in an office with her I’d have left by now.

That lottery win really couldn’t come any sooner

Complain to HR that she's bringing her politics to work.

Dreading going back, we are going through a restructure so should find out soon if I am keeping my job or being made redundant.

IBlameTheDog · 01/01/2025 15:01

Yes dreading it.

I've been 'trained' up for a new role but the training has been woefully lacking. I feel like I've been taught half the alphabet and been told to go and read a book.

I've always been really good at my job and now I'm filled with anxiety and stress. Going to give it till summer. If no improvement I'll look for something in my old line of work elsewhere. It's hard though as I'm part time and the working world does not like part timers!!

Cavalierchaos · 01/01/2025 15:02

Dreading it. Teacher. Finding being around my bosses thoroughly unpleasant at the moment. Add that to my awful social anxiety, I'm more sick than ever at the thought of going back.

maddiemookins16mum · 01/01/2025 15:02

I'm looking forward to some normality and routine again.

PantherchameleonsocksforChristmas · 01/01/2025 15:03

Be thankful you get a break😔 not all of us do.

It's not Marina Purkiss you work with, is it?! 😆Totally with you on people who make politics their whole personality, so tedious...

I've been off work since the 19th. I started my current job in May, and only got reduced annual leave - the bulk of which I decided to use up around Christmas and have a full two weeks off. I didn't get that in 2023, as I was made redundant at the start of December. I was out of work, but it definitely wasn't a holiday!

It's been really nice to get to properly switch off and enjoy some much needed downtime, particular as before this, the longest time I had booked off was two days either side of my birthday weekend in August.

But equally, after having spent over a week with family (although feels quite a lot longer!) I'll be ready for getting back into the normal routine on the 6th.

Although I did have a bit of a worrying dream a couple of nights ago, that my boss (having previously been very happy with my work) was suddenly finding flaws with everything and assigning my projects to other people...gulp. Hope it wasn't a premonition!

deathofadiscodancer888 · 01/01/2025 15:31

Yes I am.

I like the job and 95% of the people I work with but absolutely cannot stand the person I share an office with.

They literally set my teeth on edge for 7 hours a day. 😬

Needanewname42 · 01/01/2025 15:38

Dreading it.
I know I need to get job hunting in the new year. I enjoy the hours I do just now but the business has been through a very turbulent couple of years and I can see a future for me where I am.

MarioLink · 01/01/2025 15:50

I'm looking forward to getting away from the kids!

Justgorgeous · 01/01/2025 16:06

Going back to my job as a TA. Dealing with argumentative and rude children and then you have the same with the parents. Looking for a new job.

snoopyfanaccountant · 01/01/2025 16:06

We officially finished at 12.30 on the 18th when we went out for our Christmas lunch and the office reopens on the 6th, but I am on annual leave next week and I don't work on a Monday so I am not back until the 14th. In reality I only put my out of office on yesterday because I had accounts to file with Companies House and I only got the finalised accounts back from our tax accountant late on the 23rd and I didn't have time to file them then. I hate the drive to the office at this time of year anyway but after 4 weeks of not doing it, it's not going to be pleasant.

Catsservant · 01/01/2025 16:07

Yes although currently off sick. The job I don’t mind it’s the bullying toxic NHS management that make it so awful.😢

StMarie4me · 01/01/2025 16:11

Me. It's all gone too quickly. I need at least another week!

And I love my job but goodness me I've loved not going!

Oblomov25 · 01/01/2025 16:19

No. Quite looking forward to it. But then I like my job, want to get cracking on our accounts Year End. Was off Christmas Eve till tomorrow 2nd, only 9 days but it was a good amount.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 01/01/2025 16:22

I don't mind going back to work, my job has been extremely quiet recently so it's been pretty easy.

When I return I need to start recruiting for 2 new staff members, which is tough in this climate as we are a very specialised service so competing for staff with our similar organisations who often pay more. Although I am hoping to poach someone from another team, fingers crossed.

Still, work should be fairly easy going and I wfh a lot so nothing too awful. The hardest part is getting the kids back into school routines.

Eldermillennial2024 · 01/01/2025 16:23

I've been off since 19th and go back on 6th. I wouldn't say I'm dreading it but I've really enjoyed my time off.

doneandone · 01/01/2025 16:35

Yep. I work in a school and was ill for the last 2 weeks of term but couldn't have time off as I don't get paid sick pay and just couldn't afford to take that hit in my January pay. I'm feeling quite resentful of it and it's making me not want to go back, also, I know it'll be hit the ground running when I get back and I'm not sure I'm ready for that.

Changeitup81 · 01/01/2025 16:48

Part of me is looking forward to getting back to a routine... But I don't know if that will still exist as DC1 has recently been experiencing EBSA and averaged maybe 50% attendance in December 😭 I have no idea if she will go back to school on Monday or not and I'm actually dreading it.

I thought the holidays would give me time to forget about it for a while, but it's constantly been at the back of my mind.

Plus I work (or am meant to!!) four days a week and have quite a few training events I need to deliver in January...

And DC1's EHCP needs assessment application got declined just before Christmas (got the email at 4pm on 20 Dec - deliberate much 🤔) so need to spend time reading through all of that and working out what I need to do.

FuckItItsFine · 01/01/2025 16:52

I had a work anxiety dream last night about going back! Back in on Friday for 2 days.

TroysMammy · 01/01/2025 16:55

I've been to work 1 day in the last 19 and back in tomorrow for 2 days then off again for 4. I'm not really dreading it but I am dreading the continuous phone calls where everyone says Happy New Year and I feel forced to say it back every time. I hate this time of year.

Lovelycupofcoffee · 01/01/2025 16:56

Dreading it . It’s horrible at the moment with huge targets and lots of pressure to do more every month . plus the new sales manager is awful

mowthegrass · 01/01/2025 16:59

I only had Dec 25 and 26 off so was back at it last week. It’s quiet at the moment and I WFH so I’m eating chocolate and browsing the sales.
