Make sure you get the money rather than a replacement, she clearly can't be trusted.

crockofshite · 02/01/2025 18:00

Just get the money from her. I wouldn't trust her to replace it with the same. Get the cash and buy it yourself in the sale.

WiddlinDiddlin · 02/01/2025 18:00

I don't reallllllllllllly think it matters what the actual truth is - maybe she broke it, maybe someone else did, none of that is your problem.

The point is she has to accept it was in her care, she is responsible, she must replace it. Sounds like she might be finally getting to that point.

2025willbemytime · 02/01/2025 18:00

Did she acknowledge she had no right to lend it to someone else?

Mumofnarnia · 02/01/2025 18:00

I’ve been following this thread for a while op.

My guess is she’s sold it and unable to get it back. Or that she’s stolen it and doesn’t want to tell the truth. I just find it a bit strange that someone would break it just from borrowing it. I also don’t believe the wine incident

Umbrellasinthesunshine · 02/01/2025 18:00

Langarg · 02/01/2025 17:54

Well well well. The phone call took place. I’m shocked at the lies and the lengths she went to to cover up the lies to be honest!

Some previous posters were correct. She lent it to someone else and that person broke it. Can you believe it!!

She waffled on and on and made excuses for her behaviour at every turn. Essentially she admitted that following the wedding, her sister (one of the witnesses) asked if she could borrow it. Her sister apparently guilt tripped her in to letting her borrow it due to her sister paying for half of the small wedding.

She told me she regularly asked her sister to return it but didn’t hear anything from her (hence why she didn’t reply to me for a good few days). Her sister eventually came clean when she seen her on Christmas Day, admitting that she’d knocked a glass of wine over it and broke it. Her sister convinced her to come up with the cover story of leaving it in the hotel in order to buy some time to get money together to replace it.

I was not expecting what she said so was left a bit speechless if I’m honest. I told her that I wanted to digest the information but ultimately there’s no option other than to replace the airwrap for a new one as I don’t want to trust some random second hand one. She agreed and said that she was going to come clean to her husband tonight (he had no clue about any of this) and that she would be in touch no later than tomorrow morning with a resolution.

I honestly don’t know what to believe any more 🤣 did she sell it? Did she break it? Or did she genuinely lend it out?! Seems like CF’ery runs in the family though!

Wow. This thread has had me gripped!! As you say - who knows what to believe, such a complex series of lies and crap behaviour… and of course…it wasn’t her at fault, it was her sister to blame all along! Uh huh. 🧐. Why she needs more time fuck knows, transfer the money to OP now CF!! I certainly wouldn’t be trusting any bought replacement from someone this deceitful. CASH ONLY.

Lavenderfarmcottage · 02/01/2025 18:01

sorry to go Aussie bogan but I can’t contain my true personality right now…

WTF OP !!!!!

You seem balanced, fair minded, patient, reasonable, how did you find this friend ?

Maybe her boozy sister, the cleptomaniac cleaner and her husband that mistook it for a dildo (that will be the next phone call) can all go 1/3’s in the replacement.

Doxiedolittle · 02/01/2025 18:01

ElaborateCushion · 02/01/2025 16:52

My hair never holds a curl with or without my AirWrap so there's no difference there.

I was looking earlier today at some photos from a few years back (aka the "pre-AirWrap era") and the difference in my hair is staggering. I use the smoothing brush to just brush dry my hair and it looks so, so good now compared to before when it was always just a bit frizzy all the time, even with a professional grade hair dryer.

When my hairdresser does my hair now, I get her to leave it wet and I dry it myself as I much prefer it.

There's definitely more to the AirWrap than just the curling tools and I'd replace mine in a heartbeat if/when it breaks. So far we're four years into mine and it's still going well (touching all the wood I can find!).

Glad to hear yours is still good. We’ve had two go south (my daughters first) and then mine (barely used but out of warranty) - I have a separate hairdryer. When I called Dyson customer service now based in Honduras) the first guy just laughed and put the phone down. The second one said they don’t do repairs (they do it turns out but don’t have any spare parts - as reported on BBC Watchdog) and offered me £100 off a new one, but not if there was already any offer eg Black Friday. So I left them a review on TrustPilot, where I found other similarly disgruntled customers, to hopefully warn other unsuspecting new buyers.

Happy ending though, I bought the new Shark
styler - and can honestly say it’s brilliant. So if yours ever does die (and I really hope it doesn’t) try this instead.

PS: can so relate to the bad hair history. All I can say is thank goodness for Ghd’s or in my case their offshoot Cloud 9 (did my research thoroughly 😊).

IkeaJesusChrist · 02/01/2025 18:01

It doesn't matter what happened, just ensure that you get a new one as replacement.

BMW6 · 02/01/2025 18:01

She's twisting and turning like a windchime in a gale!

Whatever the truth is, she owes you a brand new genuine replacement and the moment you get it or the cash I'd tell her to FUCK OFF the dishonest bitch!

stayathomegardener · 02/01/2025 18:02

At least you can go 50/50 with your sister on the replacement cheeky friend.

£199.50 in the Boots offer, you can even keep the points.

TheBluntTurtle · 02/01/2025 18:02

HootyMcBoobs · 02/01/2025 17:57

Sounds like crap.
How would getting something WET (that is designed to be in contact with WET HAIR) ruin it so badly that it is beyond repair?
Garbage.

My thoughts exactly! Not that OP should have to accept damaged AW at all.
well OP - it’s time for you to be a broken record I think ‘I didn’t give you permission to lend them out. You need to give me the money to buy a replacement’. That’s all you need to say to her now for any other excuse until you have the money.over and over again….

did she even apologise for lying to you? And has she apologised for having them this long and not returning?

Ohnobackagain · 02/01/2025 18:02

@Langarg whatever the truth may be, she needs to order you a replacement on next day delivery. Send her the Boots offer link. Up to her and her family to sort the sister out - irrelevant to replacing the airwrap.

Don’t even get me started on the pack of lies - the lying is awful but the fact she obviously expected you to swallow that nonsense? CF.

Fromage · 02/01/2025 18:03

Doesn't matter what her bullshit story is - either it's the truth, or she's come up with that story because maybe she thinks it'll make you feel sorry for her, and that it wasn't her fault, and actually it's not her that owes you the money for a new one, it's her sister (who I suspect will be hard to contact.)

All that matters is, she coughs up the cash, and then her sister can pay her back.

No idea what the 'coming clean to her husband' is all about, unless he puts his big manly foot down and says they're not giving you the money. Sheesh.

LawrenceSMarlowforPresident · 02/01/2025 18:03

Oh, what a tangled web we weave.

Your friend really takes the biscuit. Surely she should know that if you're going to lie about something, you should stick to a simple story, not continue to invent more and more outlandish nonsense. 🙄

Doxiedolittle · 02/01/2025 18:03

Loving the bookmark the post tip. Can’t wait to find out the next instalment.

Lavenderfarmcottage · 02/01/2025 18:04

And I know the air wraps are good but come on. It’s like her and her sister are two cave women that have found themselves landed in civilisation & wont hand back electronic devices, or shiny things.

HamHand · 02/01/2025 18:04

I have loved following this thread. The problem here is how can you believe a single word she says? Just count up the lies she's already told. I'd not wait till tomorrow. I'd go to her house and actually watch her transfer the money to you. She seems the type to claim it's been sent then oops, it must have been the wrong account number and I can't get the money back. What a horror of a 'friend'

TheseCalmSeas · 02/01/2025 18:04

Lies after lies after lies.

I wonder what her DH deals with!

The resolution doesn’t need much thought… she needs to replace it. She can easily order one using klarna and pay over instalments but that’s not your problem or solution to find.

Snowmanscarf · 02/01/2025 18:05

Not quite sure why I am so invested in this. So many twists and turns.

ThisAvalanche · 02/01/2025 18:05

She has lied and lied and lied. She's still lying. The CF has backed herself into a corner and is piling on more BS to get out of it.

Get the money, in full, then block her. She's no friend, OP, but you know that by now.

Baggyprincess · 02/01/2025 18:06

Unlikely excuse.

I’m still waiting for her to take responsibility and actually replace it with a new one. Not sure what happened to the original but doubt her new husband knows anything about it, hence finally admitting there is an issue before you could make contact with him.

IdylicDay · 02/01/2025 18:06

Langarg · 02/01/2025 17:54

If you have her sister's number, phone her. Don't text (unless sister doesn't answer after several calls), phone her. And ask her straight about it all.

SanctusInDistress · 02/01/2025 18:06

’dog ate my homework’ comes to
mind. Bye bye ‘friend’.

she’s going to stall and delay. You’ll never get it back or a new one. You are going to have to buy a new one yourself and learn the lesson never to lend stuff again.

JustMyView13 · 02/01/2025 18:07

@Langarg well I can see why her sister forcing her to lend out an airwrap that wasn’t her, then subsequently breaking it, would somewhat take the shine off her wedding and spoil it. My guess is there’s some truth in that story. Perhaps she was the one who broke it, perhaps it was her sister.

Imagine spinning so many lies that you’re down a trusted friend AND the price of a new airwrap.

There’s your lesson kids, don’t lie!

Excited to hear you’ve received safe delivery of the exact model you lent out.

#Airwrapgate continues…
