@Langarg BRILLIANT reply OP! Just when you think CF's behaviour couldn't get any worse, she plumbs new depths and also confirms what we all already know - she was never going back to the hotel (which makes it even more ludicrous that she said, unprompted, that she would!). BTW, I've been out this evening in a yellow weather warning (driving in the dark) and I've returned home safely to tell the tale! 😂
Can't wait for the next update. When this is finally resolved to your satisfaction OP, you could send her the link to the Daily Mail piece saying "Incidentally, you made the papers - your cheeky fuckery is now infamous!" 😂

littlefireseverywhere · 01/01/2025 22:22

surely Whatever happens now she realises she messed up the friendship. She may aswell just buy you a new one & you’re no worse off. Then you can move on, without her in your life! Anything else just drags it on!!

Joelle84 · 01/01/2025 22:24

Ask her who she spoke to at the hotel so you can add that to the police report

Teanbiscuits33 · 01/01/2025 22:28

What makes this even worse is not only did she predictably not go to the hotel, but instead of pretending she did go and then giving you your airwrap back after it was miraculously ‘found’ there, she has told you she can’t go at all, which means she intends to still keep it! I’d be fucking furious!!! The brass neck of that woman 😦

Lolajane80 · 01/01/2025 22:32

So invested !

crockofshite · 01/01/2025 22:38

Shame the sleazy Fail can't afford proper journalists.

Dyson won't get involved, nothing in it for them and can you imagine the floodgates that would open.

Your CF friend stole it, either kept for herself or sold it.

Give her a time deadline, in the meantime buy yourself a replacement while sales are on.

Take her to small claims court to get your money back.

Don't accept it back damaged or any bits missing some time down the line.

Delete her from everything and tell all your mutuals why.

Silvertulips · 01/01/2025 22:39

I do wonder if she’s been a little CF with you and you’ve let it slide before and she wasn’t expecting so much resistance this time?

There’s always a straw!

MummyJ36 · 01/01/2025 22:48

I‘m so invested in this. Reading the two threads I’m 99.9% sure she’s stolen in. What a ridiculous thing to lose a friendship over, absolute pure greed. I mean I’m guessing the friendship is over come what may but do pursue the police report if she doesn’t reply / send you the money.

Normallynumb · 01/01/2025 22:50

Good reply OP
I did wonder what her excuse would be!
Blame it on the weather eh!!

That isn’t going to wash every day though, I wonder what she will come up with next? She must be thick, or think the OP is. I bet she’s shitting herself. She underestimated OP 🤣🤣

FunkyMonks · 01/01/2025 22:54

Really hope you get the money to buy it rather than have her buy you a fake one or older module although I suspect she will block you and won't give you money or replace the airwrap shocking.

Purplequestionmark · 01/01/2025 22:56

What I don't understand if she stole it is what was she expecting that you wouldn't want a replacement Or reimbursement.
Maybe she thought you'd let her keep it as a wedding gift.
I am still confused by her thought process though.
I am looking forward to finding out what she comes back with now!

She thinks OP is a pushover. She’s done similar things in the past and OP has let it drop. This time she thought she’d try and really push her luck and pushed it too far.

thinktwice36 · 01/01/2025 23:18

Great reply @Langarg don’t let this lie 💪

I wondered about this too

I think she'll say that they drove to the hotel and they still didn't have it. There's no way of proving whether she actually goes there or not I don't suppose. Unless op calls the hotel to check if she's been there or not.

Yep, she was anticipating a couple of minutes of OP being a bit disappointed, her pretending to apologise profusely, then OP saying "Ah, well, can't be helped; these things happen" - and then no more ever said.

Tracker stuck underneath their car?!

Probably illegal and highly questionable anyway; but it would be extremely interesting to know whether she claimed to have travelled four hours to the hotel and back, when the gadget showed that she hadn't gone any further than the sales section of the local Cash Converters!

Yep, it’s pretty obvious she has absolutely no intention of returning it at this point, because she’s not prepared to even pretend she is going to go to the hotel or pretend she found it in her luggage, else she would have done by now.

Unless she suddenly finds it tomorrow in her case then I can’t see what other explanation she can give? She’s not very bright because OP is obviously going to query in a couple of days why she hasn’t retrieved it once the weather warning has passed, then she will just claim she has been and it wasn’t there, but she could have already done that by tomorrow 🙄

I sense that CF will imminently rant at OP to get off her back and then swiftly block her. What a scumbag this woman truly is.

KangaRoo00 · 01/01/2025 23:29

Can't she get one from Curry's and do the pay monthly option? What a shitty friend

Yup, a £500 straw!

CautiousLurker01 · 01/01/2025 23:31

Not sure if anyone has suggested this, but is it possible that she actually broken it? Dropped it/left it on something flammable etc? Ie she made up the story of it being stolen because she doesn’t want to admit she broke it and would have to replace it (odd logic I know, but she probably genuinely thought that their being stolen would get her out of repaying you)?

FizzyBisto · 01/01/2025 23:32

KangaRoo00 · 01/01/2025 23:29

I'm sure she could, but she's robustly pleading the Buffay Amendment:

"I wish I could; but I don't want to!"

ThePolarBearWhoLostHisCrown · 01/01/2025 23:34

What a CF. Some friend!

Joelle84 · 01/01/2025 23:34

Car will have broken down next once the storm has passed. Why dont you call her bluff op and offer to drive her there? You wont have to go as she will be ill or husband ill, great aunt Laura or the cat and it needs the vets…. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Of course you're confused by her thought process - we all are. Any decent human being, and especially a decent friend, would be. But the CF isn't decent in any way. She has no moral compass and would screw over a kind friend (who, no doubt, she thought was a soft touch) without a second thought. However, she's made a mistake in thinking OP would be a pushover - and OP is really starting to teach her this. 😉
