A breakdown in their sense of morality, maybe...

HootyMcBoobs · 01/01/2025 21:44

That's actually a good point. There may be CCTV in reception? Even if there isn't, could you tell "friend" that you've managed to get the hotel to check their CCTV?
I don't know how big an Airwrap or it's case is, is it something that has to be carried separately or could it be put in another case/bag? May scare her into thinking you might be able to see them leaving the hotel with it?

menopausalfart · 01/01/2025 21:45

@Langarg Did you know that the Daily Mail picked up the story?
Must be a shitty journo if they have to fish MN for stories.

I’m sorry I haven’t posted an update for a while, I’ve had a busy day visiting family.

I haven’t managed to read all the updates but will have a better chance to read them tomorrow. I’ve had a good laugh at some of the comments, also can’t believe the CF who borrowed the hat for the wedding!!! and also that someone genuinely did leave their airwrap in a hotel for it never to be seen again.

It looks like I’ve stirred up quite an interest for airwraps! I did get a bit excited when I seen I had received a private message… I wondered if it could possibly be Dyson themselves reaching out to offer me a new one. Alas, it was a pervert who suggested I need to ‘put my friend over my knee and smack her bottom’!

I didn’t send much of a response to her text message, other than wishing her a happy new year and asking what time her and DH were planning on going to the hotel tomorrow. Will see if she replies!

Love the way you're playing this OP - cool, calm and collected. Not letting her forget she told you she's going back to the hotel tomorrow (allegedly!) to try to find it. And when she comes back empty-handed, you can subtly remind her that she said she'd have to put a new one on her credit card by sending her the links to the various websites currently selling it with the message "Oh well N, the good news is it's now only £399 so it won't be quite so expensive for you to replace. BTW, can you please ensure you get a gift receipt for me in case anything goes wrong with the new one and I can deal with the retailer without having to involve you. Thanks." (The receipt will also serve to confirm she bought a legit product from a reputable retailer. 😉)

I have never checked up on a thread as much as this one before I'm dying to know!

They do it all the time.

Mumsnet is to the Daily Mail what an abandoned lorry full of bananas in the middle of the jungle is to a tribe of gorillas.

I don't believe for a moment the cf and husband are going to drive all that way to look for a hair dryer!! The petrol they spend will go a good way to buying a new hairdryer.
If they were that skint and couldn't afford a hairdresser , how they got enough for petrol for a 4 hr round trip wild goose chase.
This cf is digging herself a deeper hole!!

FizzyBisto · 01/01/2025 21:53

Now that the DM has nicked this story, any recent bride who is seen with a Dyson Air Wrap that she's legitimately bought or been given as a gift is going to be at great pains to bluster repeated assurances to her friends and family that this isn't referring to her Grin

SpringIscomingalso · 01/01/2025 22:00

It is good that the daily mail picked it up. 500 pounds and claiming: ah dear, nothing to you, what? Forget about it - is totally shocking attitude from a " friend "

Langarg · 01/01/2025 22:09

She has replied people!!!! I remain flabbergasted at her CF’ery. She said due to there being a yellow weather warning in place tomorrow for snow and ice, her DH doesn’t feel comfortable travelling to the hotel but they will assess the driving conditions in the morning.

My patience is running very thin and I have done as some previous posters suggested and have sent a text message back saying the following ‘I hoped this would have been resolved by now. I’m disappointed that it took you so long to initially tell me that you had lost the airwrap. You say you value our friendship however it saddened me that you said this has taken the shine off your wedding, in what felt like an attempt to make me feel guilty about the situation.

Going forward as far as I can see there are 3 options. 1) transfer me £399 so that I can buy a new airwrap (boots have them on offer) 2) you buy a new airwrap and have it sent to me or 3) we need to get the police involved if you genuinely did leave the airwrap in the hotel and the hotel claim it isn’t there, meaning it has been stolen’

Also, what a slow news day it must be for the daily mail to report on it! Unless the exposure means Dyson will give me a freebie 🤣

Good work sending that message. Utter cheeky fuckery.

surreygirl1987 · 01/01/2025 22:11

Good message in reply to her. 👏

MargaretThursday · 01/01/2025 22:11

If Dyson give you a freebie (autocorrect wanted to write Frisbee) don't let her keep it!

surreygirl1987 · 01/01/2025 22:13

Just be careful with option 2... you don't want her to get a random one off FB Marketplace.

How many posters called it that she was NEVER going to that hotel?! Grin
Your reply is spot on OP. Just make sure you get the receipt if she buys it for future warranty etc. because she's obviously as dishonest as they come.

What an awful person she is! Did you know she was THIS bad??!

VodkaCola · 01/01/2025 22:14

What an utter cheeky. 'Not comfortable driving in the ice', yeah right.

ThisAvalanche · 01/01/2025 22:19

I mean, why WOULD both the CF and Mr CF jointly drive a 4 hour round trip to try to uncover the truth about a hairdryer that she shoved in her own suitcase?

Just how stupid does she think you are?!

FizzyBisto · 01/01/2025 22:21

IF her tale did have any truth to it, she would be an awful lot more angry at the hotel than she seems to be.
