Following to see what happens tomorrow

Still following 🤣

What I’m the most confused about is the wedding. If this was a tiny do, done on the cheap, with DH and two witnesses then why did it take place in a hotel so far away? Surely if you wanted to do it quietly and cheaply then it would be the local registrars office or a small local venue

Owly11 · 01/01/2025 13:30

@yohohoCrimbo well it is the point of how close a friend is op and it adds to the cheeky fuckery. If the friend can afford to pay for a wedding then she can afford to pay for a hairdresser and if she is having a proper wedding but not inviting op it also adds to the picture of the sheer disregard the friend has for op.

Aw don't be silly hun, of course it hasn't taken away from your special day. It will get sorted out this week then we can forget all about it. Did you want me to come with you to the hotel tomorrow? X

This is excellent- as is @Moveoverdarlin suggestion* *

Keep it breezy & light while maintaining that she still owes you.

And if she tries to get out of it by ignoring it and dumping your friendship, I'd take it to the small claims court

pictoosh · 01/01/2025 13:32

Btw...she's setting up to fall out with you about this. It won't be because she borrowed then lost/stole your airwrap, it'll because you took the shine off her wedding. At least that's what it will be during any retelling of the story.

She will cut you out and never have to deal with providing that which she lost or stole. And it will be you at fault. Bet you.

As I said, honest and polite is the approach here. Factual. Then no one can accuse you of doing or saying anything wrong, should it all turn sour and you have to write your bonus-bought airwrap off for gone.

Fuck sake.

The suggestion was a "girls' night out".

if you re read my post, no it wasn't. it was a girls day out.

Yes I was thinking this myself, it would be registry office then maybe pub after for a few drinks or a meal out somewhere.

Poor woman. Even if this has now spiralled beyond her initial cfuckery, if she is on mnsnet like op said then this must be horrifying.

Poor woman nothing. The solution is easy enough, isn’t it?

Iwantamarshmallowman · 01/01/2025 13:48

if the box is large, would cctv from the hotel prove she was carrying it when she left? Could you call her bluff? tell her you're contacting the police so they can investigate who from the hotel took it?

MaggieBsBoat · 01/01/2025 13:50

I really want a Dyson Airwrap now. Is this what’s known as viral marketing?

MeridianB · 01/01/2025 13:52

I think if she had read MN she would have blurted it out or given it away, especially when drunk.

I absolutely agree. I’d even try bribing someone at the hotel for the ctv if this was legal 🤔

She's either a thief or a supreme CF: in any case, I don't feel sorry for her. She should be bloody embarrassed and should've given it back or replaced it immediately if it was genuinely lost.

My DD has one she says it's revolutionary!

Poor woman is now taking CF to the next level.

Morning all

I received an incoherent text message from my friend at about 3.15am (clearly drunk) rambling on about how she valued our friendship so much but couldn’t help but feel this whole situation had taken the shine off her wedding! The absolute cheek of it! She went on to say she will sort this out and hopes it can be ‘left in 2024’

I have a feeling she’s read here and is trying to make me feel guilty. Why else would she say it’s taken the shine off the wedding other than to try and make me feel bad?! Or have I become cynical?

She is incredibly manipulative. I hope you leave this friendship in 2024.

Buffs · 01/01/2025 13:59

How dare she accuse you of taking the shine off her wedding! How very dare she! This is no friend.

SlightlyJaded · 01/01/2025 14:00

Assuming you haven't replied yet OP?

I'd reply along the lines of

"It's not about 'leaving it in 2024' though is it? It's about you replacing something that cost me £500 and that I lent you to be kind. It's something that I use several times a week, so every day that I don't have it is frankly, annoying. If you really want to put this behind us, please can you either locate or replace - 'like for like' - asap - and I'll try to move on. Thanks".

Impatiently awaiting the update. 10 quid on her 'finding it in her boot'

I see your tenner and raise you 15 on her never getting back in touch

The cheek! I haven't read past your update here but I would be very tempted to respond along the lines that I could quite see how losing an expensive item belonging to someone else would take the shine off her wedding day and the issue will be "left" on whatever day she returns the item to you which unfortunately won't be 2024 now as she still hasn't sorted it on NYD.

WiggyClawsThe2nd · 01/01/2025 14:06

Such a CF. Am hoping she has read your thread as then she might realise how unacceptable it is.

menopausalfart · 01/01/2025 14:07

If you don't get it back, I'd send her a link to this thread so she can see that this behaviour isn't tolerated. Some people don't deserve friends.
