Last Christmas I bought relative shower gel. Quite fancy but not amazingly so. This year I recieved the same shower gel back. Aibu to give it back to them for their birthday in April? I don't like it.

Exactly the same bottle?
They obviously didn't like it either.
Give it to a food bank.

ForOliveOP · 31/12/2024 19:42

well this sounds a lovely closely relationship 😆

BenditlikeBridget · 31/12/2024 19:42

Do it. Do it forever 😁

I don't know why you bought shower gel you didn't like. Had the relative told you they liked this one?
You should be the better person and don't regift it back to them again.
Maybe stop buying each other presents. It sounds like neither of you appreciate the other.

doodleschnoodle · 31/12/2024 19:43

That's every other Christmas sorted for you both for the rest of your lives. Seems good to me!

FelicityBennett · 31/12/2024 19:44

Yes , could be a perennial ongoing gift ! My great uncles did this with a tea towel for over 50 years 😂

I thought they liked it. Now I don't know if the one they gave me was a new one because they like it so much or regift as they hate it. I'll have to mark the bottle subtlety

what made you think they liked it?

FelicityBennett · 31/12/2024 19:46

They also reused the gift tag for over 50 years _ sounds like a goal

Saw one from that brand in their bathroom and a reed diffuser

So chances are… they think you might like one

however fact here you are assuming otherwise… would indicate you and this person perhaps don’t have the best of relationships

Onlyvisiting · 31/12/2024 19:55

It's possible they bought it for you because they like it and forgot that you'd given them one before. Theirs might have been accidental rudeness, if you return it then you are being deliberately bad mannered which is far worse IMO.
Just donate it elsewhere and choose a different gift next year.

Well just that it seems suspicious to recieve the exact same shower gel I sent them last year.

so you bought them a shower gel that they already had half used in their shower? was it a special brand?

BliainNua · 31/12/2024 19:55

This could be a fun game for many years to come 😆🤣😆

Ah yes! That's soemthing I hadn't thought of. Food bank it is

Oh my god, do it. Keep gifting it to each other forever and never say anything. Hilarious

RandomMess · 31/12/2024 19:55

Colleague has passed the same £25 M&S vouchers with his brother for decades 😂

only if you otherwise weren’t close or a bit suspicious of them

if my sister did this for example, it wouldn’t occur to me that she was regifting my gift back to me.

Astrak · 31/12/2024 19:57

Thank the gifter for the gift and explain to the gifter that it made your skin itch. Don't put a pre-used item into a food bank.
Next year, perhaps make sure that each of you have a list of small gifts that you would like?

Needmorelego · 31/12/2024 19:58

@RandomMess unless it's an old paper voucher with no printed expiry date that M+S voucher won't have been usable for years.
I don't understand why one didn't just buy some pants or food.
How childish 🙄

Don't do this. Don't follow any of the advice you have been given, except mine. Gift it back and forth forever and never mention anything to anyone or each other.

Fuck a duck.

April is 4 months away and you're sitting there wondering if you should give them shower gel?

I know the TV's shite but come on! 🤣🤣

OriginalUsername2 · 31/12/2024 20:01

I love this. Please regift it and update. It could go on for years!
