Crashed into neighbour's car

jiporin · 29/12/2024 11:26

I'm so pissed off!!

I have knocked on and ask my neighbours not to park one of their cars on the road, directly opposite my driveway as it means I cannot reverse off.

They stopped doing it, but today they parked the car there and I've reversed into it!!

For fuck sake! I know I am BU but I begrudge having to pay for the damage.

Does your car not have windows or mirrors? How on earth can you blame someone else's parking for crashing?!

Pandasnacks · 29/12/2024 11:27

You didn’t look where you were going and crashed into a parked car, on what planet is that not your fault? Be mad at yourself.

biscuitsandbooks · 29/12/2024 11:28

You shouldn't be reversing off your drive anyway.

yorktown · 29/12/2024 11:28

Is it a legal parking space?
You'll have to pay the damage - but on the plus side, they might not park it there again.

PrincessofWells · 29/12/2024 11:28

Well on the upside they probably won't be parking there again 😂

Santaisinbedalready · 29/12/2024 11:28

You really should reverse on the driveway...

Sirzy · 29/12/2024 11:28

Thankfully it was just a car you didn’t see not a pedestrian.

ueberlin2030 · 29/12/2024 11:29

You should reverse onto the driveway and drive off. Even so, you're blaming your neighbours for your inadequate driving skills - their parking might make it harder but surely you just manouvre more?

pinkypank · 29/12/2024 11:31

What have they said?

jiporin · 29/12/2024 11:32

Did you all miss the part where I said I know am BU?

Did you miss how discussion forums work? What did you want, no replies?

ThatMauveRaven · 29/12/2024 11:33

YABVU to blame this on your neighbours. This is 100% your fault OP - does your car not have any windows or mirrors to check your distance to hazards with?

You should always reverse on to your driveway as it’s far safer. What if it had of been a pedestrian standing there instead of a car? You’re being absolutely ridiculous and don’t sound like a safe driver in the slightest.

youngoldthing · 29/12/2024 11:35

Ah OP I know what you mean.

you'll get a hard time on here and I know you’re annoyed at yourself but other people do park like dicks even when they’ve been asked not to.

hopefully not an expensive repair and on the upside they might consider not parking there in future.

Fundays12 · 29/12/2024 11:35

It sounds like you can't reverse so shouldn't be driving. Unless there is a legal reason why your neighbours can't park opposite I can't see how it's there fault. As others have said you really should be reversing into your drive anyway.

So why are you posting on AIBU, what were you wanting?

Moonwalkies · 29/12/2024 11:37

It's not your neighbours fault you can't reverse your car safely.

And hopefully OP will consider looking where she’s going when reversing 🤷‍♀️

This is the first time I've hit anything in my eight years of driving.

Parking opposite someone’s driveway is not ‘parking like a dick’ in the slightest. They weren’t causing an obstruction, nor were they parking on OP’s property. My neighbours park opposite my driveway as funnily enough they need to park outside their own house! Somehow I’ve lived here 3 years and am yet to hit their car..

OP is just looking for an excuse for her own bad driving. If you can’t navigate a minor inconvenience then you shouldn’t be on the roads full stop.

Not sure what your aim was with this post tbh.

Needanewname42 · 29/12/2024 11:49

Op if it's any comfort 1 in 4 accidents the people know one another.

I know two people who left the same house at the same time and reversed into each other.

Dontwearmysocks · 29/12/2024 11:50

A) parking on the road is not parking like a dick.

B) Not reversing INTO your drive and having to reverse out of it is, however, parking like a dick. especially if you seem unable to use mirrors and brakes correctly.

C) what gives anyone the right to dictate to people about parking on a road which is presumably public highway and not their business?

Notquitegrownup2 · 29/12/2024 11:52

Oh bless you. My mum reversed off her drive for her first accident ever in 25 years of driving straight into a police car which had stopped there.
They were gracious enough to not arrest her when she told them off for parking in such a stupid place!!

MagicalTimes99 · 29/12/2024 11:52

You realise that AIBU was made for people to ask whether they are being unreasonable or not? In 8 years of driving you should be good enough to be able to reverse without hitting a stationary car, or if you are blocked in, to realise that the space is too tight and to then ask your neighbour to move it. Completely reasonable that you are angry however your anger is misdirected at the wrong people.

youngoldthing · 29/12/2024 11:52

Pandasnacks · 29/12/2024 11:37

Of course that goes without saying. I sympathise with her though.
