Crashed into neighbour's car

I'm so pissed off!!

I have knocked on and ask my neighbours not to park one of their cars on the road, directly opposite my driveway as it means I cannot reverse off.

They stopped doing it, but today they parked the car there and I've reversed into it!!

For fuck sake! I know I am BU but I begrudge having to pay for the damage.

@jiporin

im sorry the stupid twat parked like...the twat he is. Inconsiderate prick.

you appear to have attracted all the perfect pollys this morning.😤😤😤

you should have just said ''you'll find you have a mark/dentwalloping bash in your front panel/door panel/whatever. I advised you not to park there' and walked off.

obviously you're going to have to pay for it, but make him think & have to come to you!

feel free to spend the rest of the day calling him all names under the sun!!

My sisters claim to fame is that she reversed their Range Rover , which has cameras and sensors everywhere into a JCB .
Her husband still teases her about the 10ft bright yellow thing ... yeah she didn't see it .
We laugh about it now , obviously not at the time .

PeppyGreenFinch · 29/12/2024 17:18

Do they know it was you?

Just act dumb and deny all damage if not.

This is the first time I've hit anything in my eight years of driving.

But the car might have been a child, dog or anything - you were lucky it was a car. You are totally beyond unreasonable.

My neighbour opposite has paved over her front garden and dropped the curb so she can park there, but was annoyed when I parked outside my house on the road (I have a front garden with plants in it) as it makes it harder for her to turn in/out to park in her driveway.
To be honest I thought it was a bit cheeky of her to prevent anyone else being able to park in the street outside her house and to think she should also be able to stop people parking outside my house too!
When I first moved here the parking was OK-ish but now is a nightmare as so many neighbours have dropped their curbs.

Did you really crash into their car, or was that hyperbole? Surely you know that you have to go slowly and carefully when entering or leaving your drive - ideally reversing in and driving forwards out?

It's not necessarily bad if people park opposite your driveway, depending on the road and parking demand. If you have a drive, you already have the right to take what would otherwise be another public parking space away from the general supply, in order to have 24-hour access to your drive; you can't seriously expect to take two spaces away?

If you have a drive, you have the right to be able to access it whenever you want to, but you don't have the right to be able to sweep leisurely in and out without a care in the world. In the real world, you may well have to manoeuvre to get on or off your drive, as the road doesn't just exist solely for your benefit.

The parking sensors would have been screaming though. Hopefully any damage was minimal, reversing is usually done at very low speed.

Not every car has parking sensors.

My cousin hit an electric milk float (the ones that drive super slowly( 20 years ago and we still laugh about it now as she claims it "came out of nowhere".

Op -I'm sure you are super frustrated but as I agree they won't park there again!

Did you all miss the part where I said I know am BU?

No I didn’t miss it and I agree you are BU.
However, I don’t understand why you begrudge paying for the damage when it was your fault reversing into a parked car.
I do feel some empathy though, everyone makes mistakes and although really annoying no one was injured.
