We don’t do much here. Light a few sparklers and have hot chocolate and s’mores in the garden (we started this when kids were little)

they will go to bed for 9 and we will watch tv

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 29/12/2024 11:10

We've been invited to my colleagues for a gathering. It's tricky with a 3yr old and 5yr old though so not sure what to do!

Itsallsostressful · 29/12/2024 11:10

Maybe a takeaway then bed with tv to snuggle in. If we make the bells that all well and good if not it doesn't matter !

LisaD1 · 29/12/2024 11:13

We’ve done nothing for years and this year decided we would host a New Year’s Eve party… only to find all our close friends also enjoy doing nothing so only one couple was going to come, we all had a good laugh about it and will all stay in our own homes as usual. I’ll probably cook, not sure what yet, maybe a curry, then we will play board games and probably fall asleep with some crap tv in the background.

Dh and I are supervising a house party for 15, 13 yr olds who want to have a first grown up (!!!) NYE party...I shall gladly fall into bed at the first opportunity! They are having pizza and movies.then a pamper session then outside to toast marshmallows and eat piping hot jacket spuds round the fire pit to see in the new year! then they will be out in the garden watching all the neighbours fireworks. If I can get them all in bed by 1 am I will be happy. Then NYD its breakfast n parents arriving to pick up by lunchtime.

afaloren · 29/12/2024 11:14

We are going to a cocktail party.

tillytoodles1 · 29/12/2024 11:15

Nothing. I'll be in bed by 10.30, just me and the cat.

hellsbells99 · 29/12/2024 11:16

I am home alone. DH is working and the adult DCs are going to a party at a pub. I am going to get myself some nice nibbles and watch a film.

RavenclawLuna · 29/12/2024 11:17

Nothing probably watch tv and bed before 12 I have no doubt.

Createausername1970 · 29/12/2024 11:21

Going to family to play board games and cards, have some nibbles and wine, see the new year in and come home.

But when DS was younger we usually stayed home.

I have done the large gatherings at Big Ben and Trafalgar Square back in the day, and although I enjoyed them at the time, I wouldn't do them now. Far too many people, I actively avoid crowds now.

TooMuchDontCare · 29/12/2024 11:21

Nothing. I hate NYE so never really do anything. This year I'm glad to have no plans because we're going on a city break for 3 days on the 1st & we've loads of brilliant things lined up then including theatre tickets with a post theatre late night booking in a fabulous cocktail bar so we can have a drink & disuss the production ..
I can't wait!

merryhouse · 29/12/2024 11:24

Ringing. Up, dong, joyful noise, down, fizz.

Apillthatmakesyousayalltherightstuff · 29/12/2024 11:25

Getting stents in hospital. Yay.

Porcuporpoise · 29/12/2024 11:26

Staying in and acting as a taxi service for teens that are going out.

bridgetreilly · 29/12/2024 11:27

We do takeaway and games with grandparents. It’s become a nice tradition for the children.

Dulra · 29/12/2024 11:30

Early meal out with kids (all teens) and then watching an 8pm firework display in Dublin. Will be home in time to welcome in New Year with glass of champers on green with neighbours.

We are in Dublin and for years they have had matinee NY eve celebrations early evening for kids even with a countdown! we've always done that, it's a lovely family friendly event and kids loved it

RabbitsRock · 29/12/2024 11:33

We bring the bunnies in because of the fireworks so stay at home with them. As I said on another thread, NYE used to be a big deal for me but it’s been quiet for the last few years. DD16 will be here unless she gets a last minute invitation from a friend & is actually going to eat the same as us (sirloin steak, chips, breaded garlic mushrooms & petitpois). We’ll watch a film & the fireworks on tv. I have a hopefully nice bottle of AF fizz & DH will have zero Peroni. He’s recently discovered zero Thatchers cider which he says is nice.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 29/12/2024 11:36

We're away on a break in Norfolk Were going for an Indian meal then back for some Champagne.

Fidgety31 · 29/12/2024 11:51

Going to the pub … have never stayed in on NYE.

Getting stents in hospital. Yay.

Hope it goes well. Flowers

ilovesooty · 29/12/2024 11:54

Going to a friend's house. Food and games. There'll be 8 of us.

Getting stents in hospital. Yay.

Best wishes. Doubtless they will transform your life and you'll feel much better.

Lobstercrisps · 29/12/2024 11:54

Getting a bi-annual takeaway for the family as we live in the country. I will have a salad or something as I don't like takeaway food.

My family will try to make me stay awake. I'll fight sleep from about 8pm.

Nikitaspearlearring · 29/12/2024 11:58

The problem if you go for a meal with friends/ to someone's house for food is that eating is over by around 9, and then you've got three hours to kill before you can go home. Sometimes I go to the pub and see friends but I don't stay. DH will stay in and watch a film with car chases in it.
