Staying in. I hate NYE. I live in a party town and its carnage in the centre on NYE- drunken fights, people throwing up, crowds of revellers, loads of police patrols etc Its thoroughly unpleasant. I dont enjoy being around drunk people.

I will be staying in watching a film with DH in my Pjs - lovely. More than happy to go out on less pressured nights, but NYE - no thank you.

YouMustBeTheWeasleys · 29/12/2024 12:15

I have been pressured into hosting a small gathering (7 of us). The last few years I have hosted NYE at our house apart from last year where I organised a weekend away and unfortunately despite my best efforts people now expect me to do it.

I am moaning about it but I do actually enjoy hosting and I assume people enjoy it as they keep coming back and asking me to do it again!

I will put some balloons up, make some posh nibbles and people will bring games and it will be a nice time.

Thelnebriati · 29/12/2024 12:19

I have the house to myself this year for the first time, and will be chatting to people on social media, watching films and listening to loud music. I might do a bit of knitting. I'm too disabled now to enjoy going out so this is actually my idea of a fun night.

MandyFriend · 29/12/2024 12:24

I'm recovering from a minor surgery on my back, but we're going to a dinner party at our friends' house who live nearby. They always feed us delicious food, serve excellent wine and are great company. Our two adult daughters are staying at our house and having a few friends over for a little NYE soirée. We'll probably join them after we've seen the new year in with our friends.

storminabuttercup · 29/12/2024 12:25

I plan on cooking something nice, not sure what yet, maybe watch a film. We've not been out New Year's Eve in about 15 years I don't miss how busy it is.

1AnotherOne · 29/12/2024 12:26

I’ve woken up with that bug that’s going round this morning so we’ll be dosing the dog with sedative cause she’s scared of fireworks, get an Indian takeaway and probably be in bed by 9:30. Like every other new years!

FrogOnAYuleLog · 29/12/2024 12:26

Friends coming over for a takeaway and games. They have 2 & 6 year old, we have 2, 7 & 9 year olds. Went to theirs and did the same last year. 2 year olds will go to bed as soon as they arrive really and the older kids will just play and hang out all evening.

PheasantPluckers · 29/12/2024 12:28

Nothing! First year in ages and I can't wait!

RabbitsRock · 29/12/2024 12:29

1AnotherOne hopefully you will feel better by Tuesday - hope it’s not noro 💐

paranoiaofpufflings · 29/12/2024 12:31

I live alone so I'll be on the sofa watching a film or something, will watch the fireworks on TV at midnight. I'd like to be in bed soon after that but I live in London and there's usually fireworks being set off well into the early hours so no doubt I'll be kept awake by that.

BigDahliaFan · 29/12/2024 12:33

Last year was my first ever new year's not doing anything. Can remember why now. Done parties, Trafalgar Square, pub, friends houses, rented cottages with friends. I like New Year.

Last year was fine but...

We've got an invitation to the pub with friends this year or round to another friend's house...but DH has flu so I don't think we'll be going anywhere.

lavenderlou · 29/12/2024 12:36

Just DP and I and 11/14 yo DCs. We will have snacky for and watch a film. Pretty much a rerun of Christmas Eve!

bostonchamps · 29/12/2024 12:36

Nikitaspearlearring · 29/12/2024 11:58

The problem if you go for a meal with friends/ to someone's house for food is that eating is over by around 9, and then you've got three hours to kill before you can go home. Sometimes I go to the pub and see friends but I don't stay. DH will stay in and watch a film with car chases in it.

Isn't the whole point of having friend to spend hours chatting, laughing and you know...being friends? Not killing time until you can go home??

Much to the chagrin of most of MN, I love NYE and we're going for a bottomless brunch, a pub crawl and then back to ours for lasagne (classic, spicy veggie and ham and mushroom) and trifle just before midnight. We'll then spend a few hours dancing in the kitchen (with our neighbours before anyone starts complaining), because my friends actually like spending time together and celebrating.

Summerbreeze456 · 29/12/2024 12:38

We've got friends coming with their kids. We'll have raclette (which ex used to hate, which is why I picked it), do some little fireworks for the kids when it gets dark (they are 8, 8, 5, 1 and 5 months) and light the fire outside. They'll most likely leave by 10 or 11pm.
I'll have the hot tub on and, if DS is still awake, we'll enjoy a late night paddle and watch the fireworks at midnight. DD will be wrapped up warm and can sleep in the pushchair.
It's the first NYE without his dad and we used to just go to bed. I have no clue what he's planning this year. Perhaps going out with the OW...since he's on a trip to recover his lost youth...

Wendolino · 29/12/2024 12:38

I've hated new year's eve since I was an adult. As a child I loved being able to stay up and watch White Heather Club (showing my vast age) then teenage parties were fun. When DH and I got together it seemed like forced fun, going to gatherings and parties when we'd rather just spend time at home, especially with work fast approaching. It was more fun when DC were old enough to stay up and sometimes we'd have family round.
Now it's just the two of us with a hotpot and a bottle of something. Bliss!

Jolietta · 29/12/2024 12:38

We are going to stay at my sisters along with other family members.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 29/12/2024 12:38

NOTHING AT ALL!
Really looking forward to it 😂

Andywarholswig · 29/12/2024 12:41

Going out for an early curry with DH and teens and then home to play board games - not a fan of NY but is more fun now the kids are older and can join in

OldTinHat · 29/12/2024 13:03

Nothing.

I've not 'done' NYE since I was about 18!

Emmav2020 · 29/12/2024 13:05

getting a curry and will be in bed for about 10pm in a food coma. probs woken up at midnight to fireworks

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 29/12/2024 13:23

Going to a party at our village hall. We’re on the social committee and DH has basically organised it all. We’ll dance the night away with our friends and have an awesome time. Plus I have a fabulous dress and sparkly boots, can’t wait!

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 29/12/2024 13:32

Go to the village sports club, there is a pizza van and disco, families welcome, meet a bunch of friends, kids all in the same class and good friends, will stay until around 10:45ish when the girls will probably get tired, they are 8.

Girasoli · 29/12/2024 13:33

We are going to my parents house to eat traditional sausage and lentils. We'll play board games and watch a film, and have sparklers/party poppers if the DC are still awake at midnight.

TangerineClementine · 29/12/2024 13:35

We're going to a party, the hosts live just around the corner from us so no problems about getting home.

usernother · 29/12/2024 13:39

Food at a great restaurant, then off to the pub to see the new year in with a group of friends.
