Isn't the whole point of having friend to spend hours chatting, laughing and you know...being friends? Not killing time until you can go home??

Much to the chagrin of most of MN, I love NYE and we're going for a bottomless brunch, a pub crawl and then back to ours for lasagne (classic, spicy veggie and ham and mushroom) and trifle just before midnight. We'll then spend a few hours dancing in the kitchen (with our neighbours before anyone starts complaining), because my friends actually like spending time together and celebrating.

I'm just a misery, then, aren't I? I find it interminable.

EsmeeMerlin · 29/12/2024 13:42

We have booked swimming for us all in the morning and then soft play no doubt. I will then tell the children they can only stay up til midnight if they have an afternoon nap. We have some new party games to play on the Nintendo switch and we will probably get something nice in for dinner.

Nothing. I'll be in bed by 10.30, just me and the cat.

This used to be me but I no longer have a cat so this year, like last year, I'll go to bed with a book and a large glass of my favourite fizz, Cremant.

NYE doesn't get more exciting than that these days. 😆

FourChimneys · 29/12/2024 13:51

Painting skirting boards in the sitting room.

CoolPlayer · 29/12/2024 13:56

Thanks for all the replies been interesting reading, seems I’m not alone in staying in a struggling to keep my eyes open till midnight ! :)

I can't understand the hype TBH. The 1st Jan is no different to the 31st Dec! Its manufactured to get people to keep on spending and extend Christmas a bit longer.

However, it is celebrated on the same night all over the World (maybe not China, they have their own I think!) Whereas Christmas is not.

Like many others we do nothing special. Sorry ......

Bellyblueboy · 29/12/2024 14:06

Nothing. I used to spend hundreds going out on New Year’s Eve and never once had a good time!

so I stay in, light the fire, open a bottle of wine and crack open a really good book! Bliss. It’s my favorite night of the year now.

MrsSkylerWhite · 29/12/2024 14:07

Family over, dinner together then telly. We’ll all be asleep before midnight 😁

Elphamouche · 29/12/2024 14:29

We us y ally have a get together with friends or family but it’ll just be us this year.

Nibbles, TV, games and playing with DD. Quite happy with a quiet one this year!

pimplebum · 29/12/2024 14:31

Just us and mil bubbles and m and s nibbles

lifebyfaith · 29/12/2024 14:33

Nothing. The same every year.

muddyford · 29/12/2024 14:35

Nothing. DH too frail and I have never been bothered. So supper as usual, listen to The Archers, walk dog round the block, bed at 9.00. Woken at midnight by fireworks.

Legendofthelostkeys · 29/12/2024 14:38

The same as usual.

What are you doing on New Year’s Eve?
aCatCalledFawkes · 29/12/2024 14:47

I think myself and boyfriend might go out to the pub earlier in the day for a couple of drinks. Then it will home home for party food with the kids. I can't imagine we will all stay up lates. NYD he is cooking a roast for us all.

IlooklikeNigella · 29/12/2024 14:47

I am very much looking forward to NYE this year!

I am going to see a show with my DC and parents followed by a really fancy early dinner in the city where we will be joined by DH and sibling. We are all staying in my parents - we are getting DC ready for bed then DH and I are driving over to another couples house for some champagne to ring in the new year. It's only 5km away and a very safe neighbourhood so we are going to skip the taxi battle and walk home.

Silly as it sounds I'm looking forward to the walk home the most. 2024 was a great year after some really awful ones and I'm feeling very grateful and happy.

TheFunHare · 29/12/2024 14:55

We have friends coming over who are night owls. We are definitely not and would be happily tucked up in bed by 10pm if we had our way. We will have a retro 80s buffet with cocktails and board games.

BornForLeaving · 29/12/2024 15:04

We have friends coming over for dinner and they’re staying over. They’re all bringing their dogs as none of us leave them due to the fireworks so we’ll have a full house.

Elektra1 · 29/12/2024 15:05

I'm not big on NYE, having had various fantastic plans derailed at the last minute when I was young. It's just another night. I hope to be tucked up in bed by 10pm.

I like New Year's Day. Seems more hopeful somehow. I'll be seeing my best friend for a nice walk and lunch.

Bbq1 · 29/12/2024 15:45

Myself, dh and teen ds will be doing our traditional picky buffet then 2 films. We'll do the countdown, Auld Lang Syne then sparklers and some fireworks in the garden. We all really enjoy our Nye's. Used to go out when young but I think less young people bother going out nowadays.

neverbeenskiing · 29/12/2024 16:07

We usually stay over at our best friends' house where we have a little party for the kids (buffet, music, party games) then put them to bed about 9pm. Once the kids are settled the adults have a few drinks, play some games, maybe watch the fireworks on TV. This year we're staying home as our friends DM is sadly very ill. We will either get a takeaway or some tapas type food from M&S for tea. Afterwards we'll make hot chocolate with marshmallows for the kids, they'll have sparklers out in the garden and maybe we'll all play a board game. Once we've put the kids to bed DH and I will share a bottle of fizz while we watch a film. We're not really fussed if we stay up until midnight or not, we'll see how we feel.

Eldermillennial2024 · 29/12/2024 16:10

I tend not to do much on New Years Eve except maybe for for a meal earlier in the evening and then we're home for evening and in bed before midnight! I have young DC and don't like staying up late anyway.

Jeezitneverends · 29/12/2024 16:11

itsjustbiology · 29/12/2024 11:14

Dh and I are supervising a house party for 15, 13 yr olds who want to have a first grown up (!!!) NYE party...I shall gladly fall into bed at the first opportunity! They are having pizza and movies.then a pamper session then outside to toast marshmallows and eat piping hot jacket spuds round the fire pit to see in the new year! then they will be out in the garden watching all the neighbours fireworks. If I can get them all in bed by 1 am I will be happy. Then NYD its breakfast n parents arriving to pick up by lunchtime.

Edited

You have a big heart….I’m sure you’ll have a group of very grateful parents!

Nothing doing here, despite being in Scotland and people think we all go mental at Hogmanay! Kids and partners here for the traditional steak pie dinner on nyd

AuntieMarys · 29/12/2024 16:12

Nothing. Dh working NYE and the day from 6am.
Luckily we both hate it.
Can't wait to see the back of 2024

Boing98 · 29/12/2024 16:13

Food, fireworks and friends over for a party

LostMySocks · 29/12/2024 16:17

Family movie night with our boys with party food.
Then they'll go to bed, DH and I will watch another film then wake the boys a bit before midnight for the bongs and watch fireworks from the big houses locally before everyone heading to bed.
Lovely cosy evening. Always have to watch the same film though as it is their favourite Christmas one.
